Vacation things

My DH has been such a good sport about coming with me to places that have been important to me. Not a history buff per se, he has happily gone with me to many National parks, State parks, national Historic places and other venues, including Greece, Normandy beaches. and European cities.

Our DVC ownership which has allowed us to share FL, Hilton Head and Hawaii stays with many family members and friends.

My parents, who knew it was important to go out and learn, and have lots of experiences, and share with others.

:grouphug:Caseheidi. I'm so sorry about your mom. Thinking of you🙏

3 Vacation Things are harder for me since I'm a homebody at heart. God willing one day a "vacation" few hours at ::MickeyMowith dad and friends would be fun. Definitely day trips including to church and the laundrmat even to look forward to.

When Covid is much more over, dad and I sure are looking forward to a visit from our TX cousins who would travel out here on a 🚂Train related, dad and I are also looking forward to one day checking out a local Christmas themed train ride andcof course a trip on the DL RR.

Good memories of and gratitude for past trips!

Today's Topic (Tues 1/31) - 3 vacation-related things you're grateful for

(past trips, future plans, school vacations, whatever ...)
1. Packing cubes. How in the heck did I manage so many years without these little nuggets of joy? I can repack suitcases without making a mess, and can find a days clothing much easier, since it's all packed together!

2. Our trip to Belize in August (and our upcoming one in May!) First time out of the US on vacation, and we fell in love with the mountain area. We are trying a new place this time, but still away from the ocean. (DH can't do beaches; really, he's supposed to stay out of the sun as much as possible, so the mountainous areas are our best option.)

3. Not having to cook...or clean up...and trying new things!

1. I'm grateful for cruises - right now they are our vacation of choice. DH and I are traveling more often since we are basically empty nesters now and don't have to plan all of our trips around ball games and summer vacations. We've been fortunate enough to still take a trip each summer with all of our kids, but the spring and fall trips have been a new introduction to our vacationing.

2. I'm grateful for my new organization method - I bought one of those fabric squares that I keep all of the "little things" that we like to pack for our trips - extra plug-in for cruise cabins, towel clips to hold towels on beach chairs, etc.

3. I'm grateful for the friends we've met on various trips over the years and for facebook which allows us to keep in touch with some of them.

Catching up on Topic (Mon 1/30) - 3 People You're Grateful For
Apart from my family, friends and co-workers, who have been or are sure to be listed sometime:

I'm grateful for Louise Penny. I love reading but have been having challenges finishing books lately; however, I never have a problem finishing Louise Penny's latest. Plus, she publishes so regularly, I always know another of her books is shortly around the corner.

Kate McKinnon. While I laugh quite often, I don't generally laugh at something intended to be funny, like comedy. Kate McKinnon is one person in the comedy industry that reliably makes me laugh.

Custodians, housekeepers, servers and those in "customer service" roles-Unsung heroes and often underappreciated, in my opinion.

Today's Topic (Tues 1/31) - 3 vacation-related things you're grateful for

(past trips, future plans, school vacations, whatever ...)

Our luggage scale. DH and I are like magpies on vacation, collecting/seeking out local beers and foods along our journeys to bring back and extend our travel memories. The weight of that stuff adds up! :)

Anticipation - dreaming of the possibilities is definitely part of vacation fun for me

Trains. I am grateful for planes, cars, boats and other modes of vacation transportation but my very favorite way to travel is 🚂 (no driving, readily available bathrooms, ability to get up and move around, views you can't see from roads, etc.). I only wish the U.S. had a better track system so passenger trains could have more reliable arrival times and be a great travel option like it is in other parts of the world.

1. First Class when we fly...the necessary leg room for my long legs, close to the bathroom, champagne, and a delicious meal.

2. Disney vacation gear: Dooney & Bourke Disney backpack, purse, makeup bags. My carry-on hard shell suitcase for when we fly, and my Kate Spade beach bag that lies flat in my carry-on. Ziploc bags that double as "packing cubes" and dirty laundry bags. My Minnie Mouse sunglasses and straw hat that rolls up tight and packs well.

3. Cape Cod beach vacation gear: LL Bean duffle bags, Lilly Pulitzer beach bag, canopy tent and vinyl tablecloth for our picnic table, large fan, and lots of beach reads.

Today's Topic (Tues. 2/1) - 3 Guilty Pleasures You're Grateful For

(Keep 'em DIS-friendly, of course!)

🌻 Special thanks to L.K. For contributing a topic via PM. - Keep those ideas coming, folks!

Disney - Cruises - Parks - DVC
My Disney Purse Obsession - it’s really out of hand
To be honest - my Disney obsession - From Pandora to Jim Shore to Steiff to Hummel and other art pieces I’ve collected over 40 years - my house is a sea of Disney it brings me happiness - I see things and think about the trip I took when I got them - the people I met - the fun I had - each thing triggers a memory
People think or it’s just nick nacks - it’s just a purse - it’s just an ornament - but no - it’s a memory - it’s remember that day we were at EPCOT and…..or remember that cruise and we were in….. I see an item I have and I think back to the wonderful time and think about the trip and remember the people I met and all the fun I had !

My family will tell you I collect the following
Towels
Blankets
Tupperware
But seriously - can you really ever have too much of any of the above ??? I Don’t think so !!

Happy February 1st everyone

I have very little guilty pleasures - I have pleasures, but they aren’t guilty ones (like puzzles, reading books, my morning coffee and etc)

#1 - I’m grateful for the occasional ice cream night, which I won’t be having now that my DH is diabetic. When DD19 is home this summer, her and I will have to go get some when we are out, and then I’ll really feel guilty - like I’m having an affair with a Dairy Queen blizzard - LOL!

The next two are also guilty pleasures that I’m not going to do now due to my DH being diabetic. If he’s not with me, then I’ll still do it, I just can’t bring myself to eat something he can’t have in front of him.

#2 - I’m grateful for my little Dixie cup of m&m’s that I used to have every Sunday night after our pizza. It was a weekly treat that I looked forward too.

#3 - I’m grateful for the big 3.5lb bag of Sour Patch Kids that I would always get for long drives. They are my most favorite in the car thing to eat - I love them!

Yes….all my guilty pleasures revolve around sugar 🙄

@L.K. I'm shocked you have guilty pleasures as sweet as you've been to me 😃

I took a short break since little did I know that the family of my friend would lean on me so much. Not complaining, just worn out.

Ok. NOW guilty pleasures!

1. Baskin Robbins peanut butter and chocolate. I just dig around for three PB!

2. Too many Netflix - Emily in Paris, Outer Banks and Paramount + Tiger King

3. Not guilty per se, but I love snail mail. I love to look at my informed delivery every day. And I love to mail others. Something satisfying about a stamp lol

Three of my ❤️❤️❤️ favorites
Baskin Robbins Choc Peanut Butter Ice Cream - OMG do I ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ it
Key Lime Pie - ❤️❤️❤️❤️ I can eat a whole pie in one sitting - yum !!!!
M&M - I eat way too many - should never have them or those dang Peanut Butter cups in the house - I will eat all of them - no guilt here !!!
