Three Things...Gratitude Thread

Blue Jeans mainly Levi’s - I don’t know what it is about these but my mother hated them I mean you would’ve thought they were the worst things on the planet🤣🤣 to try to get that woman to buy us a pair of those when we were kids was like pulling teeth!! I had to get a babysitting job and save up my money to buy my own and I never looked back they are by far and wide my favorite brand of pants and always have been !! I’ve tried others and went right back to them ❤️❤️❤️ but I can never get past my mother‘s hatred for blue jeans I don’t know what it was but she just hated those things and would never let us wear them

Blue Sweaters - I’m always looking for the perfect shade of a blue sweater to go with my blue jeans🤣🤣 it’s hard to find the right shade of blue for a sweater and I have several blue sweaters and they’re either bright blue or they’re a grayish blue but it’s really hard to find a true blue sweater and this year I got so lucky and I found one I’m wearing it right now and it’s become one of my favorite sweaters!!

To continue my theme on clothing - my 4 million blue sweatshirts ! By far and wide blue is my most prominent color in my closet when it comes to my sweatshirt I probably have I’m gonna say 20 blue sweatshirts! About half of them are DISNEY and on a day like today when it’s only 19° I’ll probably be wearing a blue UGG undershirt a blue sweatshirt and a blue sweater and then my blue DISNEY winter coat over it and I probably won’t take any of it off all day long in the office because my boss keeps the office at 65° 🥶🥶🥶
And I probably have a pair of blue jeans on too🤣🤣🤣 so of course I’ll have to be wearing blue socks normally I would round it out with a pair of blue sneakers but because there’s ice I’ll have to wear my boots today but they do have blue in them!!
It’ll match my mood for having to go into work blue🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Happy Thursday everyone :)

Dear PollyannaMom, I'm glad QBert brought back a good memory for you, too. Dad and I have a milk crate (great cube answer) filled with Aquafina bottles.

God willing sometime next year when I'm back to normal I'll be able to wear my blue jeans again.

I enjoy reading the regular only Love Inspired series line of books. Most have a light blue spine and part of cover.

Memories of my time in church choir. We wore blue robes. Darker blue isn't my favorite color. I was so blessed to get to sing extra to God by my faith belief through His choir at that church. Also childhood memories of The Smurfs followed by teaching and church camp memories of how much kids loved blue Otter Pops.

Blue Christmas Trees - I'll spare you the long story, but after years of wanting a navy blue Christmas tree, I got to see some in person yesterday. They were nice, but not how I thought they'd be in the light. The tips not touched by the holiday lights looked black. I had already seen powder blue and deep cobalt in person and decided those were too bright, but now that I've seen navy, I know blue isn't for me. Funny to be grateful for something that's convinced you that you don't need/want it. It's good...I got a really pretty new tree in a Black Friday sale.

Blue Vehicles - It's definitely my favorite color for a vehicle, but it seems blue is falling out of favor these days. Finding a good blue is even more of a challenge. I passed on the blue version of my current vehicle because like that Christmas tree, it looked black if you weren't right on top of it in the brightest of bright light. Still, I've had three blue vehicles. Dodge's Patriot Blue is probably my favorite of the blue vehicle paint colors I've owned.

Donald Duck's Sailor Suit - It never occurred to me, but I think it's Donald's blue suit that made me first fall for the character. I'm not a fan of red, so Mickey and Minnie were probably immediately less appealing when I was a child. I didn't latch on to orange and yellow until I was older and Goofy and Pluto have minimal green (I went through a green phase in preschool), so it now makes sense why Donald has always been my favorite.

Today's Topic (Fri, 12/6 - St. Nicholas Day) - 3 gifts you've been grateful for

Good FRIDAY Morning :cool1:

#1 - A Quilt/Blanket - My stepdad gave me this blanket when I was maybe 15 years old. I love this blanket so much - areas have been sewn/fixed and areas have been patched, because I will not give this blanket away or throw it away. It’s very special to me.

#2 - Jewelry - I’m not getting into specifics, but there’s a couple pieces of jewelry. My husband has given me throughout the years that are incredible, and something that my DD21 can have one day and pass down to her children.

#3 - Apple Watch - My mom bought me my Apple Watch in 2019 and I wear it every day. Since I enjoy working out a lot, it’s been awesome to keep track of my fitness routines. It’s fun to look back at the different fitness awards and fitness goals that I have reached throughout the years. It’s starting to act a little weird, because it is old now, and it’s gonna be time for me to get another one. I hate to do that though since my mom bought me this one.

By my faith belief my most precious Gift is my Savior Jesus. That God continues to gift dad and I time closer together day by day is precious to me.

A former church choir director and friend's belief in me to in a tiny way touch others closer in their faith through choir.

Grandparent and Champ memories are memories of presents I cherish as are this time right now with my beloved dad.

As far as things that were gifts....

The nativity set given to dad and me by a friend. It belonged to her late mother. To be trusted with it means a lot.

So many of dear you who came together to send me a postcard for my dad's last birthday. Those who also helped make tje Disneyland trip dad and I God willing will take next May possible.

I still have my two childhood stuffed animals Minty and Benjy. I know grandma brought Benjy (dog) home from a Chicago trip. God brought Minty into my life after the sad loss at the old Disneyland Hotel of my first pink stuffed animal rabbit. Minty and Benjy have been well loved for so many years now.

I think sometimes @PollyannaMom is reading my mind. I was just thinking about this yesterday and was challenging myself to come up with a third. Numbers 1 and 2 are pretty solid.

1. Annie on Broadway - It was a birthday gift. I was absolutely Annie obsessed. It was about 2 years before the movie came out, so it was before Annie mania really swept the nation. We sat front row center and it was everything I dreamed it would be and then some.

2. First Cabbage Patch Doll - It was that year when everyone had to have one. My mom went to great lengths to get one and traded off multiple times with other moms to get one that she thought I'd really love. I still have that doll!

3. Engagement Ring - DH had a lot of pressure to get it right. My maternal grandfather was a jeweler and DH had seen all of the pretty stuff we're so fortunate to have. He did so well. It was this multi stage process which made it feel more special and it's so pretty. Now if I could just get my hands to a point where I could wear it again!

Gifts...
Tickets to see Paul McCartney at Madison Square Garden. Seeing Paul, live, was on my bucket list and DD knew this. She took me out for brunch one Mother's Day. I thought my gift was spending time with her, as she lived 6 hours away and came home specifically for Mother's Day. Needless to say, I was speechless when I opened the card she gave me at brunch and found the tickets! Of course I was speechless- I was crying too much to talk!

Books. I have 3 favorite authors and every Christmas, without fail, DH buys me the newest hardcover from each. I look forward to this every year, as it means I can spend days on end, just reading!

The kindness of the folks on the DISboards. I know it sounds sappy, but we are all strangers, yet so many take time to be supportive, helpful, friendly, and kind. These are all gifts to me, especially when life's events twist and turn and make support and friendship all the more important... so thank you ALL for your gift of kindness.

Happy Saturday

#1 - Anything with my grandma‘s handwriting - I have pictures that she’s written names and dates on, some recipes in her handwriting and a few cards.

#2 - A card my DH gave me on the day we closed my store with a handwritten message - This was a bittersweet day for me. So proud of myself for being a small business owner for five years, but also relieved to close the store after it gobbled up so much of my time and not allowing me to spend a lot of outside time with our children. I was really resenting the store for having to be there as much as I did. I opened in the recession of 2007, and I knew I was taking a gamble with this. I was doing really well with basically just me working, but I couldn’t afford to hire a lot of help. I did have a few employees during the five years, but they were very part-time and they were only one at a time - I never had two employees at once. So if they were sick or had something that they needed to call out for, then I needed to be at the store. My girls were 4 and 9 when I opened and 9 and 14 when I closed. People would say to me, and still do, “ I’m sorry you had to go out of business” and I quickly tell them I did not go out of business, I just closed. When they asked me why, I say it’s because I chose my children.

#3 - Anything with my girls handwriting on it - I love all things that have my girls handwriting on it throughout the years, and if it has a handprint on it, that’s a huge bonus. I have say so much stuff that eventually I’m gonna have to thin out and throw away. I decorate my kitchen cabinets with their Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas artwork - some of these items are 20+ years old now. I treasure these items.

Good morning dear friends:grouphug:

Dear PollyannaMom, when I was younger I loved blue raspberry Icees. Glad you also enjoy them :)

Today's topic is sure dear to my heart. Most of you know snail mail means a lot to me. I pray it's a tiny way especially right now while I am homebound that I can spread some extra faith, smiles, and kind cheer. Remind someone I care.

I have many cards from my dad that are very special to me. I also have at least one card still from my beloved late grandma.

I also have some saved cards from friends in scrapbooks along with photos.

Cookie recipe- when FIL passed and we were sorting out his belongings, we found a handwritten copy of DHs granny’s oatmeal pecan chocolate chip cookie recipe. It was like finding treasure.

College notes- I was in a Greek organization and we did a lot of little activities that felt cheesy at the time. Here I am, 30 years later, and I have all of these cheesy but lovely handwritten notes all stuffed into an old scrapbook.

Things from the girls- I couldn’t save everything, but I have all kinds of nice handmade and handwritten class projects from the kids.

Recipe cards from my grandmother

Family history from my aunt all handwritten pages and pages of it

Photos and actually someone took the time in trouble to write on the back of the photo who it was and where it was ❤️ these are very old photos great aunts and great uncles grandparents great grandparents when they were younger like young adult adults 😊

I have the letter of love that my father wrote to my mother the night that I was born. I have quite a few more cards and things that my dad sent her, but this is most special to me, for obvious reasons.

Another letter I have is one that a neighbor sent my mother when he learned that my father had died. The neighbor was deployed in Viet Nam at the time (1970).

When DD was in second grade, we moved from PA to ME. Our house was full of boxes and she was "helping." I discovered she wrote a note to me on the side of one of the boxes, thanking me for teaching her multiplication and cursive. She was 7 at the time. I still have the box.

I know I've mentioned it before but special thanks and love to @flyingdumbo127 for the snail mail she's sent- handwritten messages of support and love from the other side of the USA. Puts a smile on my face and in my heart, every time one arrives in the mail!
