Three Things...Gratitude Thread

Good Wednesday Morning

#1 - My Wedding Rings - I treasure them every day

#2 - Bully Rings - They keep my puppy very happy and occupied, which makes me very happy - LOL!

#3 - Onion Rings - I don’t need them very often but when I do, I love them

Good Morning friends

Memories of loving Cheerios for so many years and a late dog of my church pastor friend Louise who loved them, too. He would sometimes come to camp and dogs need to enjoy snacktime, too :)

Thomas Mini Bagels are tasty and easier (less chewy) for me to eat than full-size bagels.

Memory of my late friend Sue who I have mentioned in our kind thread before. She loved donuts. Dad and I were so blessed to be able to surprise her with some donuts on her actual 100th birthday last year.

Another vote for Cheerios! - One of my favorite cereals, and a great portable snack back when DS was little.

Hula Hoops - on my list of best toys to recommend to parents (even for kids too small to use them in the traditional way). In our house, they were everything from targets to driveway chalk stencils to math manipulatives (they make great Venn diagrams for sorting games.)

Keychain Rings - I love collecting ornaments. More recently, my collecting has focused on National Parks. Some parks have better ornament selections than others. When I don't like their traditional ornament offerings, I've found that keychains are the next best option. That keychain ring acts like an ornament holder.

Dog Collars - While it's always good to also have your pet chipped, Collars (with tags) help tremendously if your pet gets loose. Several years ago, a little yorkie showed up in my driveway and through the number on her collar tag, I was able to reunite her with her owner. It's not so easy when they have no collar/tags.

Tubes (for water) - While I prefer them for lazy rivers and waterslides, we have so many friends that love to go tubing in the TX Hill Country over the summer. I was reminded of it on Sunday. I was driving through San Marcos, TX and we passed numerous tubing places. Basic black tire innertubes were also a must when we had our shore house as a kid. After a hot day of fishing or crabbing, everyone would grab an innertube and cool off in the lagoon.

Today's Topic (Thu, 12/12) - 3 things you're grateful for about your real house, apartment, etc.

Good Thursday Morning

#1 - It’s a Quad Level - I always wanted a quad level, so I was grateful when we found this. Many times, when the kids were younger and everyone was kinda driving each other nuts, I’d tell everyone - find a level and stay there! :lmao:

#2 - Location, Location, Location - I’m so grateful for the location. At the end of a dead end, forest as one neighbor, nobody in front of me due to a retention area - it’s private, quiet and wonderful!

#3 - It Has A Dining Room - I’m grateful for my dining room every holiday and every time I sit down to work on my puzzles.

I absolutely love my house fell in love with it the minute I laid eyes on it And I dug my heels in and fought like a dog to get it in the divorce through three lawyers who insisted tooth and nail that I had to sell the house that I would not be able to keep the house Through an ex-husband who insisted the house had to be sold in the end I obtained a lien waiver and I own the house Oh I did my research believe me I did !! And I pounded my lawyer and the mediator that you could do a lien waiver On real estate And I wouldn’t budge !! And where did I find this information from somebody else on the boards !!!

I absolutely again love my house I have wonderful neighbors they are very caring and helpful And ever so friendly

Some of the best features of my house are the huge closet No more putting your clothes up for each season I can have all my clothes out This has not made me get more clothes it’s made me thin out my clothes To the things I truly wear

But the best feature I like about my house is a master bathroom I’ve never had one in the house before and I had always wanted one

And the second best feature Full basement

And I will say the other second best feature three car garage - I can have my car in the garage and still have plenty of room to use the garage to work on projects
It helps with the garage is oversized and has 9 foot ceilings!!!

Counters- When home shopping, we were prepared to buy something that required a full kitchen makeover. I had a short list of granites I really wanted. While they didn’t showcase it well in the real estate pics (looked gray), I was shocked during our walkthrough to see that it was Labrador antique granite. It was one of the granites on my short list! It looks like a grayish brown granite with black flecks until you’re on top of it. It’s peppered with these vibrant iridescent blue crystals. People entering our home sometimes question why we added a really bold blue backsplash until they look more closely at the counters. I’m guessing they got a really large piece because it’s on both kitchen countertops, the bar (which is long), a little nook area on the edge of the kitchen, and this peninsula table feature they added as an alternative to a dinette table space.

Formal dining room- Our first home was open concept in the formal living room/dining room area. I hated it so much that I held off on dining room furniture. I got that traditional formal dining room in our second house. It was very pretty, but it was cramped. This house had a formal dining room complete with built in displays and cabinets, but I preferred the formal living room area. Plus i needed room for our china cabinet. We eventually replaced the flooring to a nice dark wood to compliment the furniture and rug. There’s also plenty of room to keep the table’s onboard leaf in place. The previous owners also had hardware installed for a wall mounted tv (since it was their living room). I got a new tv as a work anniversary gift that year, so we can also have Thanksgiving day football and holiday movies on in the background during our most festive meals in that room.

Unique features- The house is 50 years old, but even in the earlier days of master planned communities, there were model homes. We’ve been informed that ours was one of the models, so we have some interesting add ons and features not found in many other houses in our town. The closet space is horrible and the bathrooms are small (common in older houses), but we have all kinds of random little storage and built ins within the kitchen, a Harry Potter style nook under our staircase, and my favorite…there’s a little cutout cabinet style door on the wall of the upstairs hall bathroom that opens into the side of the linen closet. So, if you need an extra towel or washcloth, you can just reach in the closet from this side access.

I always wished my house had this! The linen closet is located perfectly for it - it definitely should have had two doors.

3 things I'm grateful for about my house:

The neighborhood it's in was perfect for DS when he was little - lots of kids to play with, and a cul-de-sac, so very little traffic.

It has a partially finished basement - so we were able to put DH's home office down there out of the everyday chaos.

It has a a good yard with nature views in back. (In fact, I'm sitting out there with one of the cats right now.)

The real trick to having something like this is having a well organized linen closet (which I do not 😂). Still, I’ve had a few cases where I needed a towel and successfully hunted around in the crammed in mess from the bathroom side to snag a towel.

Honestly, the best part of it… if one kid is in there and locked the door to do makeup and hair, I can open the linen closet and push open the door on the bathroom side to bug them to hurry up. It’s just so much more fun than knocking on the door and talking to them through a slab of wood.

My house...

It's big, which means we had the space for DD, her husband, and his now 8 year old to move in with us 3 years ago. DD went back to grad school and the rent on their tiny, college-town apartment went up to the same cost as my mortgage. There's enough space for them to have 2 bedrooms, a small study, a full bathroom, and a living room to themselves. We share kitchen space, and although we were sharing the dining room, it's now a playroom for the little guy. I can't imagine where they'd have moved to if we didn't have all the space we have.

Unique features... including built-in corner china cabinets, a clock built into the wall above the kitchen sink, an in-wall radio with speaker above a cabinet, small stained glass panels above some of the windows.

My new appliances! We have lived in this house for 17 years and only replaced the appliances in the last couple of years. The fridge that was in this house was a side-by-side built by RCA in the 1990s. We now have a big fridge with dutch doors on top and a sliding bin on the bottom for a freezer. The shelves are split so adjustable for a variety of heights, ample door storage, and slide out drawers in both the fridge and the freezer. Our stove was a JennAir that was so old that the wire supports for the burners had rusted through. I now have a beautiful, glass-top stove with a big oven. The stove top is a pain to clean, but the burners heat up quickly and the oven is spacious and holds the baking temps reliably. I love my appliances and don't know why we waited so long to replace them!

TGIF Everyone! :cool1:

#1 - My Husband - He’s a retired volunteer fireman for our town. He sacrificed his time with me and the kids to help our town. People don’t realize what it takes to be a volunteer firefighter. They work their career job and then when they are home from work, they live by the pager (now towns use cell phones). My DH missed a lot, of his girls as babies and children and I was like a single mother. I’m proud of him for what he did and he keeps his certifications active so he could return if he wanted, but I don’t think that will ever happen.

#2 and More - Many Police Officers That I Know - These guys are awesome! Two especially have a very special place in my heart. They were the SRO’s for my girls schools and were with our town department (they are recently retired). These men have known my girls their entire lives. It was always a comfort for me to know that they were in the school when my girls were in the school. I’m not going to make a very long post out of this, even though I could, but we had a couple scares here, especially once when my DD21 was a junior in high school. When she was scared and texting me, I felt comfort when I could say to her - you have no need to worry because officer xxx will not allow anything to happen to you or anybody else. These men know how much they mean to me and my family because I’ve told them repeatedly.

God bless our first responders, and God bless the families of the first responders. When everybody else is running away from fires and danger, they are running towards it. My husband would’ve given his life to save somebody from a burning building. These officers that I know, would absolutely give their life for others. The SROs most absolutely would have given their lives for the students in the school. It’s very stressful for the families of those of first responders, because you know they have a calling and you know that there is a huge possibility that they may not come home after a call.

God Bless indeed all who serve from military and their families to ministers and teachers to each of kind you!

Kind Ralphs and laundromat workers who help make trips easier on my dear dad.

My PT Vivian who comes to my home. She is part of a mobile PT company. God has placed in my heart to one day when I am recovered start a mobile ministry of sorts.

Happy Friday to all.

I’m gonna say the military but I don’t consider the military community helpers but they really truly are because they are United States helpers they help protect our freedom we do not have a draft so everyone in the military volunteered to be in there and I truly appreciate every single one of them past present and future
As you will know I work for a charity that services wounded veterans and the things that these young men and women have been through is just so moving in heartbreaking and they did that voluntarily in service to our country
I’m internally grateful to them and their families because their families are hugely impacted by them being gone for their service and God forbid if they are wounded which are lifelong injuries

I am forever grateful for all the volunteers who assist the fireman in the police department it takes a village!! True heroes!!

I’m grateful for the American Red Cross they come in during disasters and help people
