Three Things...Gratitude Thread

Hi Again! :wave2: How are you all???

I'm choosing a few random missed topics to get back on track...

3 books you're grateful for

The Magic Faraway Tree (Enid Blyton)

How Children Fail / How Children Learn (John Holt)

The Lost Continent (Bill Bryson)

The Oxford English Dictionary and Roget's Theasurus!
John Holt was one of my favorite education authors when I was in college, many years ago. And Bill Bryson’s A Walk in the Woods has been in my kindle library forever and I still haven’t gotten to it!

August:
My one and only miracle daughter will be 38 this month!

Ever since I retired from teaching in 2018, I have loved knowing that my summer isn’t almost over when I turn the calendar to August!

This August is very special because my DGD will be starting Kindergarten!

Kids things I am still grateful for . . .

I enjoy adult coloring books. I find coloring to be a calming activity when I am feeling stressed. I am working on a WDW coloring book right now.

I have a soft spot for Disney plush, especially holiday themed items that can be displayed as decor. For example, I bought the HM Mickey and Minnie, with a coordinating Pluto, and a Madame Leota tombstone throw pillow, which I display together for Halloween.

I still enjoy watching cartoons occasionally especially the holiday classics like Peanuts.

Good Saturday Morning!

I consider myself a very big kid at heart.

#1 - Everything Disney - Parks, shows, movies, clothes, music, everything.

#2 - Going to the American Girl Doll Store - I used to love doll shopping with my girls. Last year DD20 and I returned to walk around and we loved every minute. I love looking at all the dolls and accessories

#3 - Seeing characters at WDW - I know they aren’t real, but I love seeing them, getting their autographs and getting pictures with them - so fun!

I forgot to appreciate August yesterday! To be honest, August has always been about a break from school. (Our school summer break runs for 6 weeks from late July through August).

3 things kids do that you're grateful you haven't given up as an adult (I love today's focus!)

Read fiction.

Be playful

Laugh 'til my tummy hurts!

Enjoy Disney resorts and parks.

Disney- I think we all know that it’s not just for kids, but for all of the people that incorrectly assume it is…I’m happy to have it in my adult life.

Dr. Seuss- While I don’t sit down and read them every day, The Sleep Book still helps me at bedtime and some of the tv specials still bring a lot of joy.

Play-doh and drawing- while these days, it’s more fondant sculpting and sketching, it still comes from those childhood activities.

I just said to my DH yesterday that I never thought I would get to do these things again. (my DD said she didn’t want kids for many years)

I think my favorite activities are playing pretend, doing arts and crafts, and just being silly together. Yesterday she asked me why we say it’s raining cats and dogs, why not pigs and cows or roosters and chickens? 5 year-olds ask great questions and, like I said, I never thought I would be doing this again and my gratitude for that is immeasurable.

I second coloring! I never stopped. 🖍️

I also include some books from the teen section in my reading - I find they're the ones that tend to deal with the deep stuff.

Playing hair stylist - I absolutely loved when my nieces were in that phase and wanted to do my hair!
