Three Things...Gratitude Thread

Good Sunday Morning!

#1 - My Pool - I plan on floating in it all afternoon today

#2 - Holy Water - It will be blessing me soon when I go to Mass this morning.

#3 - Lake Michigan - Not only do I love looking at the lake, it supplies our drinking water. Lake water tastes so much better than water in other areas.

Cold water bottles on a hot day- Both for hydration and just dumping them over your head/neck.

Washing Machines/dishwashers- Sure we could hand wash things, but the convenience of these water based devices is a huge help.

Water slides/water rides- water just makes things more fun.

I love drinking ice cold water all day. I also love my refillable water bottle/thermos which has cut down on our use of plastic significantly. (We still buy large water bottles though. The water here reeks of chorine!) The other day when it was over 100 degrees, I left my water bottle in the hot car while I was at a doctor’s appointment. When I came out, it was still ice cold and I said, I love you, thermos!

I’m sorry if you are tired of hearing about my DGD, but we have been playing water games together in our sinks ever since she could stand! She loves it and I know the time doing this together will end fairly soon.

I grew up on the south shore of Long Island, NY and a trip to the beach didn’t involve a long car ride like it does where I live now. I loved the ocean (even though I almost drowned in it once!). I love the smell, the sound, and letting myself get mesmerized watching the waves, especially the crests as they roll down the shoreline.

I will speak for myself but I am sure others will agree. Keep on posting about your DGD. The is the Grateful Thread and you are surely grateful for her. :-)

Oops, my bad. It is the Gratitude Thread.....:D

I thought you said mischievous and I thought well that’s gonna be an interesting three things now isn’t it??
Must have more coffee!! I gave up on the eyes along time ago they’re really bad🤣🤣🤣🤣👎 I had to read that three times before I got miscellaneous I think mischievous probably would’ve been more fun🤣🤣🤣🤣

Good Monday Morning!

I’m going with a communication theme this morning…..

#1 - FaceTime - When my DD20 is away, we FaceTime all the time. FaceTime is such a wonderful communication tool - I love it!

#2 - Texting - Texting is the best! My mom and MIL used to hate the idea of it and now text me all the time. I always told them - not everything requires a conversation. They didn’t get that until now.

#3 - Snapchat - Another fun way my DD20 and I stay in touch. We enjoy sending fun Snapchats to each other.

Beaches !!!
Warm Weather
My favorite Sports - especially the Olympics !!! U.S.A. first but I also cheer for other athletes - they all work so hard to get a chance maybe once in their life to earn a medal 🏅!! It’s so beautiful to see a small Country earn their first ever medal !!! I enjoy hearing all the touching stories about the athletes too !! They are an inspiration!!! ❤️❤️❤️

FaceTime/Skype- My parents live about 1,200 miles away. While it's not the same as an in-person visit, getting to see people when you talk to them is such a game changer. It's ensured that my kids have grown up seeing grandma and grandpa on a regular basis. I think it also helped with some of the loneliness DD17 recently faced while staying home when we were in CA.

Sideline Swap/Dick'sSporting Goods Event- Like most parents of athletes, we have a lot of old gear sitting around. There are a number of ways to sell things, but several awkward/sketchy direct sales have turned me off from that, you never make back much with a garage sale, and while Sideline Swap online is a good thing...I hate dealing with packaging and shipping. Sideline did an event this weekend at one of our local DSGs and I got rid of a bunch of stuff that's just been sitting and collecting dust, including some bigger ticket items like bats. While I got paid with a DSG gift card, it's back to school time so there's plenty we need.

Safe Travels- While I appreciate them in general, I always get nervous when we're going farther. A lot can go wrong when you're doing that much driving. As it stands, the collision center messed up several things with the reassembly of my vehicle, but we still were safe... albeit a little hot for anything in the rear portions of my vehicle. A decision that ended up costing me more money in travel expenses also spared us from being stuck in the desert in 115+ degree heat behind a major hazmat situation. Now I'm just hoping that the collision center can get all of this fixed in a timely manner. I need to drive up next week to move in DD17 to college and it might have to be DH if my vehicle isn't done. One of us has to stay home because DD15 needs to get to and from school, so it might be me if this doesn't go well. I have a rental, but it's only covered through 8/12. Still, praying for continued safe travels.

Hope everyone had a good weekend! I am still recovering from hip and back pain, but it was a perfect excuse to be watching the Olympics!
So, first, the Olympics. Same things that WDWEPCOT said, the stories, the heart, the support of the athletes towards each other. And for us living in the DC area, so many Olympians to cheer for!!

I am very grateful that this very long stretch of hot weather will be breaking on Wednesday.

Grateful for my group of Lunch Bunch retirees for their support when I had to cancel this week. One of them even called me with a good suggestion about how to avoid aggravating my back while taking care of my hip. Like this group, we avoid all possible topics that might lead to any disagreements and find those that tie us together.

Hope you feel better!

Lots of hot, dry weather in Seattle. It really doesn't rain much in the summer time as one might think.

3 miscellaneous things

Grateful that my brother is home now resting as best as he can. He just underwent a successful heart valve replacement. The recovery phase seems to be the toughest part.

It can be hard at times but knowing that I can lean on a higher being during these crazy, turbulent times.

The ocean, specifically the Northern Oregon Coast where I can dig my toes in the sand and just take a moment....
