Thoughts on Nassau (Stay on or Get off the Ship)

Would you recommend to book day passes online prior to the cruise? Or they have selections to choose from while in cruise?
It's $5 cheaper online but I prefer wait to see how the weather is that day. No cash on premises so be sure to take along your credit card. You simply go to hotel to the check in desk and purchase a day pass

To me it seems like more and more passengers decide to stay on the ship in Nassau so if people think the ship will be empty they are wrong. I did a scuba diving trip in Nassau which was great and plan to do it again next time I'm in Nassau.

We have recently booked day passes to the British Hilton for 7 adults and a child for our cruise in April. Good location for us and reasonably priced enough to use as a 'base' for those who wish to go off and do other things. Does anyone know if the hotel provide you with beach towels for the day or should we take our own?

Does anyone know which street would be safer to walk on, Bay St or Woodes Rogers walk, with little kids?

My wife and I got off in Nassau on our first two cruises. The first time; we signed up for a tour of the city. The second time we got off and explored the city on our own. Since then we stay on board and enjoy a more quiet ship. We have just finished our fifth cruise that includes Nassau, we were on the Disney Dream for the December 5 cruise.

At Blue Lagoon are there people that hassle you to buy stuff on the beach or is it private?

Does the beach day excursion usually book up in advance? I am thinking about it for our February trip but I would rather wait to book it until we knew the weather.

Blue Lagoon is private; I believe the Blue Lagoon company "owns" their entire island. You have to take their boats to get to/from it.

You will be fine walking up and down both streets. There are more shops on Bay St. Generally, I would suggest staying in sight of the ships at the port. If there are other tourists around, you should be safe. Just remember, you are not stepping off the Monorail onto Main Street USA.

We were just in Nassau in Nov on the Dream. We had a group of 4 adults and 3 kids (5, 5 & 2.5). I debated if we should stay on board or not but we decided to get off the ship.
We walked to Junkanoo Beach. I've read mixed reviews but decided to see for ourselves. It was a pleasant 15-20 min walk from port. The beach was beautiful & clean with no real waves, which was great for the kiddos. We rented a few chairs. We got some delicious jerk chicken platters for lunch. Stayed about 3 hours. Walked back to port , looked through straw market and back on board. It was a great day. Would def do it again.

We did Blue Lagoon and loved it. We did go to the beach behind the restaurant, and it was just us for the first hour, and then one family joined us for the rest of the time we were there. It's totally worth it, and doesn't feel like you're anywhere near Nassau! :)
