Okay- let me start with a confession. I do NOT iron. That said, I find myself with an iron in my hand at 7 am- now how did that happen? I seriously suspect it is related to the joyous disease referred to in another thread- S.D.D., yup- it's that Single digit Delirium- I know it is. Why else would I find myself at Walmart- saying" yup- I need an ironing board." I am 47 years old- never needed an ironing board before- but now I gotta have one. Using the towel on the table just doesn't cut it these days. I wasn't even sure I owned an iron a week ago. Now I got an ironing board. Go figure. It's gotta be S.D.D.- I never even noticed wrinkles before. I just don't buy clothes that need to be ironed. I mean why would you? If I do buy clothes that, after the first washing appear too wrinkled -I give them away. Easy. No brainer right?
So I have been "enlightened" and educated. A few things I learned just today-
1. You have to iron the pockets of pants before you do the legs.Otherwise the legs are messy no matter what you do. It just gets more complicated doesn't it.
2. Ironing checks or gingham makes me queezy. Now why is this? Plaids are fine, florals -no big deal. But that blue ginghom pants suit- yikes. If it needs to be ironed again I will cringe. Or better yet- just give it away. Problem solved.
3. You CAN not do the Single Digit Dance with an iron in your hand. Or at least you can't do it without risking serious injury. Another good reason to avoid irons- I mean they can HURT you! Ironing and S.D.D. is a dangerous combination- like bleach and ammonia- hazordous to your help.
4. Steam helps. I have been pondering the physics behind this and I just don't get it. But steam does help. I do have a word of warnign though regarding steam. If your iron has been sitting for a decade or more be sure to allow the steam to escape for about five minutes to avoid rust stains. I think it has something to do with the cobwebs inside being exposed to moisture after so long.
Spider web revenge- yeah, thats it.
5. You can always blame wrinkles on lack of packing skills. And oh yeah- my kids packed their own clothes.
6. Do not leave the iron unattended while you check the board. Especially if you have cats. That smell is hard to get rid of.
Please ignore my wrinkles- I really am a decent person. I tried valiantly- I deserve credit for effort right? I mean- I bought an ironing board for crying out loud! I gotta go- I smell something burning.......
