I just wish you'd actually get to know me before calling me that. The only place I've ever been called that is on these boards.

And dont say its because my friends and family are racist as well. One of my best friends is african american. I work very closely with many hispanics. I never ever think of their race.

You cant accuse me of saying blanket-statements that are racist. When you are using blanket statements of mine, to determine if I am a racist.
Please, calm down and try to understand the other Posters opinions/point of view. Save the drama for your.....etc. (This thread needs some levity). People are coming to such a conclusion because...well, have you ever seen the film FORREST GUMP? Mama always says, "Ignorance IS as Ignorance DOES," etc. Prime example. When someone writes, "I am not a racist." --- the proof is right there, in the pudding. If you stop to think, you will fully understand.

Apparently, you clearly have a history which goes well beyond this thread. Your nonsensical comments on the language barrier are laughable. You truly need to get out more. You are only digging a much deeper hole for yourself with each post. Please stop while you are ahead (of whatever else is to come!). Comments on "bowling" and your self-professed "teary-eyed" reactions to hearing the National anthem have little to do with anything, other than offering fodder for late night television monologues. :rotfl2: Please...enough already. :confused3

ALSO:*Thanks to those who enjoyed my initial post on this thread (and understood the content/tone as it was intended!). :thumbsup2

I think we all (except for apparently the OP) know this isn't true. All the African-American best friends, teary-eyed reactions to the Star Spangled Banner, and claims of satire will not change that fact.

Okay, OP, I have a question for you. Did your "African-American best friend" get a kick out of your racist satire? I sure failed to find the humor--especially the "jokes" about slavery. Or maybe your black friend was just too darn "lazy" to read it.

Oh, give me a break already. You really, really need to stop claiming that you're so misunderstood and own up to your racist beliefs. The only thing worse than a racist is a racist that's too cowardly to admit the racism.

And, ChuckB, here's one vote for the black chicks! :teeth:
:thumbsup2 :teeth:

Actually I talked about it at work with him last night. Slavery and all. Considering him and I dated, we're pretty close and he understands me pretty well. He thinks I'm hilarious and knows my sense of humor tends to be on the dark side. We were both laughing at this situation and talking about what things would be like if slavery had never ended. He joked I would have had a mammy, and then maybe some better sense would have been slapped into me... stuff like that. But then we're just laid back like that. I'm rarely offended. As are most of my friends.

You on the other hand (and many others) seem to take offense over everything.

You really dont know me at all.

I don't buy the "satire" claim either. There was no indication that it was a satire and heck who would even write that kind of stuff as a joke? Seriously, it was horrid. There was even a reply from a person giving her kudos and agreeing with what she wrote. If it was a satire wouldn't someone post a disclaimer just in case, so people didn't take it seriously?

As far as the "teary eyed' reactions and claims of patriotism, I'd consider the OP more of a nationalist, rather then a patriot.

In regards to all your comments about ESL and *most* Hispanics not wanting to learn/speak English.

My FIL was born in Texas so he is a US citizen. He has lived in the US all his life. He lived away from his Mexican speaking family since he was 24 (he is now70).

He speaks English. Know what? He still has such a strong accent when he speaks English that sometimes I have a hard time understanding him. He still speaks Mexican to a lot of the Mexican people here because it is more comfortable to them.

If you heard him speak English, you would probably assume he just recently learned English. So, don't assume that all ESL students are illegal and don't assume that just because you hear someone speak Spanish that they don't speak English.

Aw, the one-of-my-exes-is-black response. Isn't that the modern equivalent of "one of my best friends is black"? Yeah, so? :confused3 That doesn't prove you're not a racist. It just proves you dated outside of your race. My husband is white. Whoopidee-ding-dang. Irrelevant.

Yep. You betcha. I take offense to everything. Everything racist, that is.

And I have no desire to know you. You see, unlike your aforementioned black ex-boyfriend, I don't associate with blatant racists unless I absolutely have to.

Hey, now that we're all clear that you're not a racist, but you do dabble in racist satire, maybe you should post the blog entry in question. Let's have another look at it now that you've set us all straight that it was a joke. I bet the folks here will just about pee their pants laughing. :lmao:

And you come across as a well balanced individual.

A chip on each shoulder.

ford family

ok, my turn on the soap box :
3 things you should know ( as my Grandmother used to say)

1." do not strike a match unless you are willing to get burned "
subjects on politics, religon, racism, and money
2." do not go where you cant take your family "
bars, gambling and houses of ill repute
3." treat others as you want to be treated "
no name calling, stealing, or being mean in general

She also used to say that if everybody followed those simple rules, the world would be a better place to stay ...... but sadly I am just as guilty as everyone else, I didnt follow the rules either, but wouldnt it be nice, and as everyone else found out as they grew up, if you break the rules, you get punished, and as far as why this thread was started, I do agree to an extent, if you are here illegally, you are taking your own chance, you should not get the rights everyone else has, the ones who followed the rules, struggled with the hardships, have the rights we are given here, wether you were born here or naturalized, I do see the ones who followed the rules, looking at this as a slap in the face, and I do understand why they would feel that way, if I where in there shoes, I would say I did it, so can you ......

How nice of you to continually set me up.

I answer your (obviously rhetorical) question, and you come back with saying whoop-de-doo. I wasnt using that as a leeway to say im not racist. Just stating the facts. I mentioned we dated so that you'd understand we are close.

Maybe if you tried being a little more laid back you'd get more out of life. (and these boards)

After I read this:

"A third-world culture that does not value education, that accepts children getting pregnant and dropping out of school by 15 and that
refuses to assimilate..."

"So, now the actions of some define an entire culture? Sometimes you jus gotta laugh."

I stopped reading. Mexico is generally termed a third world country as it is still developing and has a low Human Development Index. Wikipedia says:
Today, however, the term [third world] is frequently used to denote nations with a low UN Human Development Index (HDI), independent of their political status (meaning that the PRC, Russia and Mexico, all of which were very strongly aligned during the Cold War, are often termed third world).

Also, Mexicans, especially new immigrants, DO NOT value education nearly as much as Americans. Anyone who has done any kind of research in their life on the subject knows they value working more than education (I'm not saying there is anything wrong with that, it is just a fact.) I realize this is just one article, but:
Mexico-born youths who come to the United States as teens often do not attend high school because they have come here to work. Older teens and young adults are less likely to attend school than younger immigrants.

Also, from a government website:

Since 1972, status dropout rates for Whites, Blacks, and Hispanics ages 16–24 have declined; nonetheless, rates for Hispanics have remained higher than those for other racial/ethnic groups.

Each year between 1972 and 2002, the status dropout rate was lowest for Whites and highest for Hispanics.

In 2002, almost one-third of status dropouts (30 percent) ages 16–24 were Hispanics who were born outside of the United States. Higher dropout rates among Hispanic immigrants partly account for the persistently high dropout rates for all Hispanics.

And as far as the whole "omg saying hispanics have high teen pregnancy rates is RACIST!111" comments (source: Planned Parenthood's website):

Teen pregnancy rates vary widely by race and ethnicity. In 2000, the pregnancy rate for white teens was 56.9 per 1,000 women 15-19 years of age. The pregnancy rate for Hispanic teens was 132. For African American teens it was 151.

Hispanics account for almost 3 times more teen pregnancies than the amount of white teen pregnancies. The poster said the "actions of a few." Riiiight. Sweeping generalizations and stereotypes are pretty easy to uphold when many - dare I say MOST- of a certain population is behaving in a certain fashion. I don't get bent out of shape when they talk about whites being yuppie *******s, because hey, it's mostly true. People need to realize that just because they are part of the ethnicity in question doesn't mean that they are personally being attacked. It's facts. That's all. Grrr people annoy me.

Way to go Steph! I agree!

If I was agreeing with you, would I still be called a troll?

I just have one more point to make, really....

What's remarkable is how much immigrant labor reminds me of slave labor. We all agree slavery was bad, right? So how is turning a blind eye to illegal immigration because we want cheap tomatoes any different than turning a blind eye to slave labor because we wanted cheap cotton? Everyone is losing in this situation. These immigrants have no one to help them when someone stiffs them money after working all day. They have no laws and liberties. But if they came here correctly, they would. So why don't they?

I think I’m going to go to Mexico, become a janitor, rob a bank, and then demand that they don’t do anything about it because I CHOSE to be a janitor. So I should be able to stay there and not go to jail for committing a crime, right? Since I’m working an undesirable job that “no one would want to do," I should be above the law, right? :confused3

Aw, c'mon. Miss Jaz isn't calling you a troll because of your opinion. She's calling you a troll because you're a regular poster here who's just signed on with another username--we all know that. At least be brave and own up to it.

I didn't read pages 3-12 because it seemed to have just been a bunch of people calling someone racist and trying to dig up all the **** they could on greenyskp rather than talking about the topic at hand: immigration.

In fact you're wrong.

That happens all the time here on the DIS to a multitude of posters. Interesting that you chose this time and place to delurk.

That'd be too easy. Make sure to make my friend Nicole feel real welcome. She's a much better writer than me.
