Today I had a business lunch with a fellow who I have known for a long time. About 2/3 through the lunch, during one of the few moments that we actually stopped talking, he looked me in the eye and said...
<center>"You know, you obviously love what you are doing at the District."</center>
He's right. I do. Sometimes I grow weary from the heavy burden my job often carries, but overall I know I am doing something very worthwhile... and I am pretty good at it.
Later this afternoon I had an appointment with my dentist to have an old filling replaced (gone bad like so many of my other body parts! LOL!) and had a crown replaced that was causing me some problems. I really like my dentist and we were joking around quite a bit while he was prepping his equipment. After he was ready, he settled into the chair, told me to relax, and then declared loudly....
<center>"I really love my job."</center>
Now, I know what you are thinking..."yeah he loves it because he is seeing cash in them thar teeth!".... but guess what...NOT! He was doing the work for free - because it was not done right in the first place. He is an honorable man. No, it was more simple than that....
He really does enjoy his work, the technology of his trade, and the interaction with his clients.
I had some time to ponder this as I let him drill me to pieces. I wondered how others really feel about what they do. So, I thought I would ask you.
