Today I had a business lunch with a fellow who I have known for a long time. About 2/3 through the lunch, during one of the few moments that we actually stopped talking, he looked me in the eye and said...

<center>"You know, you obviously love what you are doing at the District."</center>

He's right. I do. Sometimes I grow weary from the heavy burden my job often carries, but overall I know I am doing something very worthwhile... and I am pretty good at it. :)

Later this afternoon I had an appointment with my dentist to have an old filling replaced (gone bad like so many of my other body parts! LOL!) and had a crown replaced that was causing me some problems. I really like my dentist and we were joking around quite a bit while he was prepping his equipment. After he was ready, he settled into the chair, told me to relax, and then declared loudly....

<center>"I really love my job."</center>

Now, I know what you are thinking..."yeah he loves it because he is seeing cash in them thar teeth!".... but guess what...NOT! He was doing the work for free - because it was not done right in the first place. He is an honorable man. No, it was more simple than that....

He really does enjoy his work, the technology of his trade, and the interaction with his clients.

I had some time to ponder this as I let him drill me to pieces. I wondered how others really feel about what they do. So, I thought I would ask you.

<center>Do you love what you do?</center>

I love my job, but I hate all that comes with it. It burns me out and by Feb...to many outside forces and sadness :(

I know how you feel DD. When I was working in hospital nursing I truly did love my job. It was challenging and hard and sometimes sad, but I always loved it. Now I am a Mom and I feel the same way...I do love my "job"! I feel sorry for those stuck doing something they hate.

95% of the time, I love what I do for my job. It is really cool and just a neat job. I will say though I am rather tired of my company and the managment that goes with it.

I'll answer your question with a few of my own. These don't happen everyday so they can be very special.

How would you like to see the look on someones face when......

You tell them their husband of 60 years will make it to see another day..............

you carry a cherished pet out of a smoke charged house and give it a little oxygen and see it come around for them............

you hand a mother her little baby that you just delivered in a hallway of an apartment building..................

you bring a dirty and disheveled 10 y/o out of a corn field, where he has been missing for 6 hours, to his mother............

you get up at 2:30 in the morning , spend 30 minutes cutting a teenager out of his car wrapped around a telephone pole, rush him to the Trauma Center and his father stops at the station to tell you thank you..........

I will take all the bad days, and there are far too many of them, just to have the few good ones.

So I guess I do LOVE my job !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Steve, Vince tells me those same things he looks forward to with his new career. Hard to beat those.

Dbl D, as for me, yes, I do love my profession. I have been doing it for over 26 years now and am happy doing it. I enjoy helping people and business stay on track while developing financial goals, dreams and aspirations. I have enjoyed being instrumental in sending kids to college, transferring estates from generation to generation, and businesses from one owner or set of owners to successor owners. I have enjoyed being a player in having a family, or buisness, stay to together after the death of a bread winner or owner. It is nice to see people retire, having been helped by some of my recommendations over the years.

Yep, I like it. :sunny:

Yep!

I love it because I meet around 200-300 children in a year. I can learn soooo much from all those different personalities.

I especially love it because it lets me be what I really love---home with my children when I need to be.

I'm a mom there is no better job on the face of the earth! :)

I do love my job. I work for a great company. We are not saving the world, or changing people's lives, but it is run well and with integrity. I am new to the IT world, and am really digging the techie stuff.

Steve (Fireplug) My dad used to say almost those exact same things. He delivered 3 babies in his career as an EMT. One of them still sends him a card every year on her birthday (she's 24 now!) I think he has saved every one of them.

Debster,
That is so cool to stay in touch like that !
The first baby I delivered was on an Easter morning and the mom naned it John Michael, which was my partners first name and my middle name.
I always thought that was pretty neat.

I've been subbing for 20 years and absolutely love it!!!:) I love being able to teach ALL subjects, tho some are more difficult than others!!

6th, 7th and 8th graders are my favorite. :bounce:

I enjoy my job as bookkeeper at the daycare I work for. Truly like what I do!

I like my current job and co-workers very much, and I know it makes a big difference. In my previous job, the work itself was okay, but the co-workers drove me nuts with whining and back-biting. I’ve been here 4 years now, and I’m really happy!

I like my job but I wish I had responsibilities at times.... Just love the 'power' I have over the public in determining what they can do with their property. BWAHHHAHAHAHA!!! (evil laugh). ;)

To paraphrase JACKIE O. (R.I.P:( ).........

" If you don't do a good JOB with your children, none of your other accomplishments matter";) ;) ;) .......
