This is why I drive

We drive too. :car: We are from the Toronto area and it's way cheaper for us to drive. Some other advantages are that you get to take what you want with you (I'm a fan of overpacking:thumbsup2 ) and you can take your time and enjoy the scenery (like the mountains in the Virginias):cool1::cool1:

Other drivers scare me a lot more than TSA screeners do.

There are a lot more crazy and dangerous drivers than there are people trying to sneak bombs onto planes (real or fake).

It's true, security experts throughout the industry and internal DOJ reports agree.

It's theater, nothing more.

I find it difficult to believe anything written in the NY Post.

I would agree with you, if it was the NY post's opinion.

There is a lot that goes into hiring a TSA agent and I do know from personal experience that TSA agents take their job quite seriously.

A lot? Like what?

A GED or Highschool diploma + a background check identical to what is run when you buy a gun and a few hours worth of training? I'd call that about the same as the guy guarding the u-store-it after hours.

People allow themselves and their children to be sexually assaulted for something that does nothing to stop terrorists.

Giving some dolt with a GED a fancy blue uniform a few hours worth of training and calling him agent doesn't him/her qualified or capable and it certainly doesn't give them the right to touch little children's gentiles and stick their hands down their pants.

That's why I spent my valuable time to drive to WDW back in November, instead of flying and risking some goon assaulting my daughters.

Because it's still a bad touch, even if the pedophile is wearing a blue shirt.

While I think there are issues with some TSA screeners, you have to take this article with a grain of salt since it was published in the NY post. I wouldn't believe half of what is printed in that paper if the Pope told me it was true. The post is and always has been about flashy, attention grabbing stories with little regard for actual facts.

:sad2:

Ridiculous! You are only patted down by a screener of the same sex. Besides, most people are not physically patted down and no one is being sexually assaulted by TSA. Calm down!

Statistically it is much safer to fly than drive, but to each his own.

Mololabe--have you lost your mind? Sexual assault? You need to look up the definition of sexual assault--and refrain from throwing those words around so carelessly!! The REAL victims of sexual assault would beg to differ with your
Idea of sexual assault being the same as a pat down at the airport! Good lord!! People really need to think before they say these things! Also, pedophile? Seriously?!!

Also, yes there are some over zealous workers at airports but we are all forgetting that the US citizens demanded a change in airport security after 9/11! It is there to help deter another attack on our soil!

Everyone needs to take a deep breath and relax!!

I know TSA is just for show and does little to nothing to protect flyers but they aren't assaulting people. Geez, dramatic much? The only extra screening that has ever happened to any of us is once they swabbed my hands with some wet wipe thing and I had to stand there for a minute. It was a random explosives screening ( I guess it was supposed to react if there was residue there?). The agent was very nice about it and that was that. I've never been through the machine that does the 360 view under your clothes or anything else.

I would rather fly than drive because it's much safer to fly even if it is more of a hassle to fly.

This is why I drive

Lucky you live on the east coast then. It would be quite the journey if I decided I wouldn't fly!

I've been patted down more than a couple times and it is NO big deal. I stand there and joke and laugh with the agent and it's fine. I would have NO problem with DS being patted down, either, and in fact I have walked him through the scenario many times so that he wouldn't freak out and embarrass me by crying or being scared. (and so he is not scared, of course)

Hyperbole much?????

There are bad apples (sadly) in every profession and I think that the person "speaking" in this article had an axe to grind.
Absolutely. There is a lot 'going on' there. Lots to be argued with.

So much wrong with that article.
To begin with.....first the writer states that you don't even have to have a diploma or GED to become a TSA employee. But, further down, he states that it's well known that the TSA employees are using this job to get a better govt job....really??? Without a high school education? Doubt it.

Also... there are a lot of people in wheelchairs that are perfectly capable of getting up and going through the scanner. If they fall into that category, it's probably because they can't easily make the trek from checkin counter to gate. Recently did just that with my step-mother.
And they're now pedophiles??? Again...seriously??? Sticking their hands down little children's underwear and touching their genitalia??? Are you kidding me??? Bad touch??? It's attitudes like that that make it so hard for parents to teach their children what to watch out for. A person feeling down my dd's pant legs or down her back, or along her waistband, with me looking on, is NOT what I would call a 'bad touch'.

Oh, and that poor, terrified little girl that didn't want to go to Disneyworld?? Not so. She was unhappy, tired and didn't quite understand what was going on. She got over her 'issue' as soon as her bunny (or whatever the heck it was) was handed back to her after being scanned. Geez.

Oh, and all those guys ooggling me??? Have at it boys. Happens in hospitals, at the mall....wherever there are men, and women, you are
going to have men looking at the women. It's what they do!!! I have no issue with it.
NOt to mention all the nice conversations I've had with TSA people....the vast majority have been very pleasant.

Is it theatre? Yep, sure is. But it does keep the majority of non-allowable stuff off the plane. Do I wish I could bring my full sized toiletries onboard? Sure do. And I'll bet that someday I will be able to again. Until that time though, I am not going to be making a big stink.

So, with all this in mind??? I am not inclined to have this type discussion here. It serves no purpose. It's inflammatory to say the least. So, I'll be watching to see where this goes.

But since most TSA supervisors are too daft to actually supervise, bending the rules is easy to do

How many people in this country use the word daft? :confused3

#1 That girl wasn't even touched at that point, She was crying because her doll and laptop were taken away from her to go through xray.

#2 I and my children have been patted down several times.I was able to observe my children's pat downs. None of us felt assaulted, no one stuck their hands under our clothes or on our genitals and the officer asked permission before touching each area. ( "May I touch the back of my hand against your stomach?", ect) It took less than 5 minutes and we went on our way and that was that.

No one makes anyone fly. If you don't want to subject yourself to presumed violations, then by all means drive.

Right because a person of the same sex can't be sex offender, dozens of 'agents' have been fired *after* local and national news sources outed them as sex offenders, here is just one of the more public stories that made nation news:

Someone asked for me to look up a definition, maybe because there internet is broken?
Definition of Sexual Assault

A sexual assault has been committed when an individual engages in sexual activity without the explicit consent of the other individual involved.

Sexual activity is any touching of a sexual or other intimate part of a person for the purpose of gratifying sexual desire of either party. This includes coerced touching of the actor by the victim as well as the touching of the victim by the actor, whether directly or through clothing.

Sexual assault includes any forced act against one's will where sex is the weapon. This can include, but is not limited to:

Sexual Battery: the unwanted touching of an intimate part of another person
Sodomy: forced anal intercourse
Oral Copulation: forced oral-genital contact
Rape by a Foreign Object: forced penetration by a foreign object including digits (fingers and toes)
Rape: penile-******l intercourse against a person's will and without consent

So yes, the unwanted touching of a persons genitals imost certainly under the proper usage of the term Sexual Assault.

I posted the "I don't want to go to Disney anymore" video (which is only a couple minutes from the full one) as an illustration.

You can spend your own time on youtube searching for 'child tsa' and come up with dozens of TSA agents touching the breasts and genitals of children.

This child is behaving normally, "stop touching me". Exactly what any child should do when a stranger starts touching them inappropriately-

No hands down the pants? How about this one:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iGGfRBcfr1g&feature=share&list=PL8046512AB2ECCAB6

I understand that many of you are afraid to call it like it is. Sexual Assault. If you did call it like it was, what would that make you? Complicit?

It is a parents DUTY to protect their children.

Um, WHAT? Since when do TSA agents put their hands down anyone's clothes? And pat downs are always done by a same-gender agent. The last time I flew, I forgot to take my clips out of my hair. After going through the detector, the agent explained that she needed to check my ponytail. I knew immediately what I'd done, but she took a few seconds, checked my hair, and let me on my way.

Do you really think that TSA agents are going to be molesting kids in full view of EVERYONE, including the parents?

Wow, I feel like I am instead of watching or listening to some of the cable shows that call them selfs "news" I am reading it here. People just shouting over each other on the radio.

First off I don't think (or should say I hope not) anyone is minimizing the seriousness of sexual assualts, just like I would hope that someone would not disparage all employees of an organization. Out of the MILLIONS of travelers are there some that have unpleasant or horrible experiences dealing with TSA, absolutely.

At the same time has TSA helped prevent guns weapons, unstable people, from being on flights, absolutely.

Has TSA prevented a terrorist from boarding a plane or been a deterient. I would say most likely but it hard to prove a negative or lack of an action. Do we as private citizens know all of the things that that TSA and other federal agencies are aware of in regards to keep the skys safe. I hope not.

While I find it annoying to remove my belt and jacket and take my laptop out, if it can be one piece of keeping a flight safe, I'm OK with it.

Lots of security/police/military "stuff" is for show. It does not mean it is ineffective, it is one piece of the puzzle. When Homeland Security raises a threat level and you have the National Guard with weapons at airports, it is partially for "show", and that is not a bad thing.

As someone who lived in NJ/NT area and relocated to DC before 9/11 and passed the Pentagon smoldering everyday, to minimize the impact of TSA and security measures I would recommend you do a search on the internet and watch newscast videos of 12 years ago.

Should a child be the focus of a pat down, at times people have put drugs and weapons on their children, in their stuffed animals and dolls. Should you protect your child, absolutely. Does TSA need to adapt and does TSA need to train and hire better sure (as long as you are willing to pay a higher surcharge on your flights).

Lets not pretend that every TSA agent is assaulting women and children. Just like there are store clerks, police officers, teachers, PARENTS, coaches, firends, clergy, counselors, other family members, and people of everywalk of life that are bad people.

If you feel you need to protect your family and children by driving go for it. You may also want to think about all the people that your child interacts with when you are not there to protect them.
