The more I think of it, the more I think something happens to him in surgery. I think the scene of him on the table with the paddles, from the finale, happens during the surgery and the scene where she is talking to him and he is pretending to sleep happens before he goes into surgery. One thing that jumped out of me was that after the surgery he would be in some sort of cardiac ICU with tubes and stuff, sedated, in pain etc. He was just kind of resting comfortably.

They did something similar with William. They showed Randall packing up his stuff in boxes crying and holding Williams hat, indicating William had died and Randall was packing his things. As of now, that has not happened yet. Just makes you think, and with all the time jumping anything could happen.

I understand it's a matter of personal preference. I'm just starting to get annoyed with it.

I agree. Had I not been reading this thread I would not have even realized that they were skipping around in the "present" time. Now that I know that, I'm a bit disappointed. I just want to enjoy the show, and not have to worry about being confused.

But they were arguing about the surgery then when she comes back they're suddenly taking him when he throws the "I love you" at her. It doesn't make sense for the proposal to happen before.

I guess not, but something just seemed "off" to me about last night's episode. Kind of like in the first episode where you find out Rebecca and Jack were in the 70's. Things felt "off" then it clicked when we realized they were in the past (like the boxes labeled "photos 1972", the hair cuts, the clothes, the outdated medical stuff etc.) Suddenly it all clicked. Last night, for me, it didn't quite click. I was waiting for it to fall into place, but it didn't. I'm sure your right and it is all happening in real time with no time jumping, but some stuff just seems unexplained to me.

I hadn't though of this theory but I can definitely see it being a possibility. As always, I can't wait for next weeks episode!

I guess not, but something just seemed "off" to me about last night's episode. Kind of like in the first episode where you find out Rebecca and Jack were in the 70's. Honestly, I think the glow from the show is starting to dim a little bit and so people (the ones who came up with this theory) are looking for something more than there is, those little twists that they kept throwing at us in the beginning. What felt off to me about the episode was that we were led to believe that Toby was in a life or death situation and both his issues turned out to be relatively minor as far as heart conditions go. We all tuned in expecting drama and it wasn't there. Kind of makes you feel left hanging. That's my take anyway.

Exactly. Someone made a comment about the HUGE cliffhanger, Toby clinging to life, half dead, heart stopping etc. Then we see him in the first 5 minutes of the show joking around eating oatmeal. It was kind of like, "huh? all that drama/suspense/anxiety/questions......... and he's fine?"

I am far from pregnant (kids 21 and 23) but ever since that scene I have wanted mint choc chip ice cream LOL. I bet I haven't eaten that in 30 years.

I craved mint chip ice cream when I was pregnant with my son.

I agree that the way they handled Toby's story line was really weird. All of that drama in the last episode before the break and then him being fine in this episode - made me feel manipulated by the writers.

I really enjoyed the episode. Wasn't surprised.."nothing bad happens on Christmas Eve" ....dead giveaway. IMO

I like that the show isn't always so intense with big twists and drama. I wasn't expecting much from the Toby situation even though they did try to hype it as a cliffhanger, so I wasn't disappointed with the episode. I like some twists, but I'm also happy to have some relatively calm episodes that advance both the current story and the backstory and let us learn about the characters. I realize that some may find it boring or keep wanting more, but I'm happy with what we're getting.

I think that the Toby story line from this week's episode was straight forward and just as it appeared. (Though that doesn't mean that I'm right about that...)

I don't think it was straight forward at all and totally discombobulated. They left us with a cliffhanger of Toby being worked on big time at the hospital making it seem like he was near death. And then the opening scene is him sitting up in a hospital bed, smiling and laughing, being served coffee in bed, and having an optional surgery. Does not compute.

Him in the hospital bed could have been two weeks after the 'near death' stuff though. We don't know that was the next day..

I loved it too, in fact I think I was more emotional than the first episode, now that we've gotten to know these characters better and learn more about what happens to them

Tonight's episode was so tough for me. Two weeks ago my dh and I were celebrating our 25th anniversary aboard the Wonder. Then just one week ago we got his heartbreaking diagnosis of cancer. Totally unexpected. Life certainly does turn on a dime.

I'm so sorry to hear about your DH's diagnosis. Prayers for both of you
