This is Us- Season six

Ohhhh, things don’t look good for Kate/Toby. I know we know they don’t end up together but I’m guessing Toby was supposed to be watching Jack and he got distracted or fell asleep or something and Jack got hurt. Kate probably freaks out and tells Toby to stay in San Fran.

We haven’t seen her neighbour in a long time..I hope we see him again. He was funny in a grumpy old man way lol

I was cracking up when Kevin was going on and on with the air quotes. lol my “sister”

Im so, so glad he didn’t go for his costar but so 🙄 to see Cassidy again. I was hoping she was long gone.

What did Deja mean when she said that’s going to be a problem. Maybe they get really mad at each other and she moves to Boston.

They have a lot of questions to tie up and only 15 episodes to do it.

What was the preview for next week? We didn’t get one, and I thought that meant another break.

I was so loving what Rebecca said about memories and days not being over - was going to go back and find the exact quote...until Jack got that phone call, and now it means something else. 😥

What was the preview for next week?
Mostly Jack dealing with the details of the news in that call.

I agree with everyone that Beth is amazing, and that her reaction is more realistic than Randall's. (Though they're probably going to get sick of Deja not having a phone.:rotfl2:) I think the "problem" might be that she's applying to boarding school in Boston.

I also agree that in a real family, the younger girls would be affected by all of that too. But I expect that were just left out of the scenes because of Covid filming protocols - a case of "nobody on set who doesn't really need to be."

I felt so bad for Kevin, too! I can't imagine not living with my kid when he was little, and I definitely see the series going badly. - Who wouldn't find it tough to always be with a pretend family that is so close to mimicking your real one? I'm glad he called Cassidy to talk, though, instead of the young costar.

And Kate and Toby is just sad. It's really a shame they couldn't have found what each of them needed in the same place. And it carries on the theme of how difficult tag team parenting is. Yes, Kate was right about sticking to the nap schedule being the key to a good evening, but at the same time, Toby just wanted to spend time with his kid and make memories. Nobody wins. 🙁

I thought Rebecca being so incredibly calm and loving to Jack about Kevin disappearing was so off. Yes, it happens to all of us - what awful memories - but we are not saints, responses are filled with with a myriad of emotions that are difficult to control.

I get she was absolutely loving to Jack in that moment because she knows he has had enough terror, but it felt disingenuous regardless. Being so lighthearted in nature

I think they were trying to contrast Kate/Toby's marriage dynamic and highlight differences. But still.

I love the show, but the writing just kills me every episode. There are so many other ways that aren't dumb to tell the same story.

Examples in the last episode:
1. Randall let Deja go to Boston to stay with her boyfriend and 'she's not doing it again!'. A boyfriend who already has a kid, and you think that your precious Deja is not having sex? And shocked when she is? Really? What parents let their kid (WHO IS 14!!!!) go 5 hours away to spend a weekend with their boyfriend?

2. Madison is 'worried' that she won't ever find a man. She has this frickin' movie star who wants to be with her and is around all the time, yet she is flirting with some nerd. You can dump Kevin on your wedding day, but that doesn't mean you can't still try?

3. Kate doesn't care at all how tough working far away is on Toby. Kate has it easy compared to Toby and she craps on him all the time. Toby is a saint to put up with it. And there has got to be a job closer to home for Toby. Why can't Toby ask for help from Kevin? He would rather break up his marriage and make it tough on Kate than get some much needed help from Kevin? When Kevin really needs it as he went through a divorce?

The writing just sucks to me even though I love the show.

I don't disagree with points 2 or 3 but only one thing: Deja lied to Randall and Beth and said she was going to a friend's house. They didn't let her go to Boston. They thought she was at Tiffany's house.

I think it is something of this nature. Randall noted he missed a lot of her life. We know what he missed - Deja had to grow up quickly and that led her to know what she wants in life. Starting with being with Beth and Randall and now being with who she loves.

EDIT: I just read here that Deja is 14. Is she? If she is scrap everything I just said. I thought she was sixteen or seventeen.

I do not think they can parent her in the same manner, given her experiences.

And it is not necessarily a bad thing if she goes there to finish school. In a different generation many went off young and found their way just fine. Heck some do today.

In Quebec many kids go off to CEGEP (pre-university or whatever you choose for life afterwards) at that age.

I think Madison does not like who she is with Kevin. And you can not change another person (ie. Kevin). So I see it as head banging for her.

I think that's exactly it. They're highlighting one of the reasons Jack and Rebecca stayed together and Kate and Toby don't. I figure:
1. Rebecca had less of a freak-out than Jack because by the time she found out Kevin had been missing, he was already safe with the security people.
2. She had time to be angry and get over it on the car ride over to pick him up.
3. She got a boost from knowing that something she did (the number in the shoes) helped in an important way.

Contrasting that with what I expect we'll see in the next episode or two with Kate:
1. Little Jack will still be in some sort of danger/distress when she finds out.
2. Toby will be right there handy to blame during her initial reaction.
3. She will feel like she didn't take some safety precaution that she should have.

Perfectly said.

Totally agree.

But I think they took it too far. A freak out was not expected by me at all, but something felt off. A facial expression needed? Something. Something. Something.

You are correct that she is at least 16. - Randall mentions she is a junior in high school, and they have a driving lesson, so she's got her learner's permit.

I agree that Kate is really selfish here. She just can't see things from other people's points of view.

I agree about the neighbor! I do know they were being cautious with Timothy Omundson because it was his first role post stroke and I know he filmed the psych movie when they were starting this season. I hope to see him, William and Dr. K at least one more time.

OK-- I may be a little off here but last night I noticed what could be the beginning of Kate's issue with food. All the 'good' moments revolved around some sort of food. She was eating popcorn at the movie, then the ice cream sundaes. There have been some others too.

I agree with others, if I had called to pick up my lost child that was supposed to have been with my husband there would have been the WTH were you doing conversation.

I think you're right. One of the other biggies was that ice cream shop with her dad!

It was mentioned that she is a junior in HS, so that would definitely make her 16 or 17.

My thoughts...
1. The purchase of the smoker made zero sense in that scene. I get that it will tie in later, but way it was brought into this episode felt very forced. It's sad that we're starting to see the demise of Kate and Toby.
2. I too was glad that Kevin didn't go for the young co-star. It shows he's actually maturing. I felt awful for him in this episode, but overall I think he and Madison are doing a pretty good job of co-parenting given their situation. Kevin needs his own house for sure.
3. I LOVED Beth in this episode. She is so good at calming Randall down and being the voice of reason. I think they're going to have to help Deja see Malik in a responsible way. As Deja said, it's likely to happen whether they support it or not, so they might as well help her with chaperoned visits of some sort.

I think Madison does not like who she is with Kevin. And you can not change another person (ie. Kevin). So I see it as head banging for her.

I can see that part of it, even though it doesn't seem she ever tried. But the whole relationship had maybe 10 minutes of screen time total.

The other part is, a hot movie star really, really likes her. And she's gorgeous too. And she can't find a man? It seems that her relationship with a hot movie star means nothing to her self worth. Really? You've got a top 1% of men after you, yet you feel you can't catch anyone?

She's settling with someone who's not even in her league? Makes zero sense in real life.
