We are driving will arrive the 28th picked up a night at the Swan then over to the BC, we are doing a land sea pkg, I believe they only do the BC, hoping not to get a construction veiw! I plan on faxing room request the 25th. Oh, have planed to drive anyway, I have always had a fear of flying (bad experinces), besides, as I keep telling DH getting there is half the fun, this is the first time he has driven down, hopefully he will like the 1300 mile ride. We have another trip in the works for the end of next summer:)

ouch! that soundsx like an awfully long trip to me, because I have 2 DDs, 6 and 2. 2 1/2 hours on an airplane w/ a 2yo is bad enough!

Have a good trip, and drive safely!

PAKSMOM,

Have a great time driving. We drive 21 hours every summer with four kids and four adults in a suburban from Iowa straight through to South Padre Island. We love the extra family time together. Kids grow up sooo fast.

Wish we were driving this time instead of flying but that's another story.

We will be at the BC in Dec and are doing the land/sea package also. We wanted non smoking double connecting rooms with a day bed. When you get back I would really appreciate letting me know how well your fax request worked out for you and what you would recommend for us.
Thanks ahead of time.

nigel-bigel, Thanks, I hope you have an enjoyably flight and a great trip! Padre Disney, I have done the drive with my sister and her family she has three kids, I Love the drive with the kids, they keep it interesting, I will let you know how the room request goes, but we plan on taking our time on the way home probably be home on the 9th. Hopefully I can be of some help :)

Hi...check the thread on the main resorts board that I posted a coupla days ago, there's a link to a 2-week old picture of the BCV.

They are also about half-done building Mission: Space over at EPCOT...it looks seriously cool. I gotta check it out next time I go...

...which doesn't look like it's going to be too soon. I won't be there for the DIS convention (sorry you guys!)...but, I am planning to go in 2002 sometime, before I graduate. Right now I decided to add another school to my list (Lehigh University), just in case i don't get accepted to two of my current choices.

Where noise is concerned, since the big stuff is finished...you shouldn't have to worry about bangin' and clangin'...just actually looking out onto the construction (it is STILL construction) might not be totally cool for some of you.

I'm going to do an update when I get time...I want to make it a good one. Expect it before Thanksgiving; I'm gonna add 2002 rates, discount info, updated floor plans (again, but only slightly this time), changed construction info and pictures, and maybe a new sub-section. Stay tuned.

JC

Well, JC, I'm here, but have not much to say. I'm just waiting to leave for the YC in 12 days!

You see, this thread is so thorough I have had all of my concerns addressed!

You would think there would be a lot of action here w/people going down soon for Thanksgiving.

I'll be sure to post a trip report upon my return...

Nicole

OK, just to keep things moving here are my several cents. I'm counting the days til my arrival in the WORLD on Nov. 28th, and my arrival YC Concierge on Dec.3!!!!! CAN'T WAIT!!!!

This trip is for my Mom's 70th birthday and I'm hoping the concierge staff will be able to make it extra special and magical for her. I haven't seen her for a year, and either has my 10 year old daughter, since we live in Israel and Mom lives in Minneapolis. So we're super excited. I've posted another thread about who to contact at concierge to ask for anything they can do for my Mom and got a few responses, but if anyone else has any suggestions as to who/when I can call/write and how/what to ask for, I'd definitely appreciate it!

Well, that's all I can think of to say right now! Anyone just back from YC concierge?

Just returned from a long weekend at my new favorite resort --- the Beach Club!! Thanks to all the wonderful info here and thanks a million Joe Cool, we had an amazing time - did not want to leave!

We requested full balcony away from the construction. We had a rate of $187 with tax for a standard room. Arrived at 9 am, parked in the self parking in the rows right next to valet parking (is it really $6 per DAY?). Checked in, our room was not ready yet so had breakfast at Beaches and Cream then found a pay phone to call ticketmaster (harry connick jr. tickets went on sale at 10 am). Okay, got 11th row (yippee) so we went to Stormalong Bay. WOW, it is amazing! The CM who gave us our wristbands for SAB said thatere at 100% capacity for the weekend but it was the least crowded we have ever seen at a Disney resort.

Room ready at noon, it was #1645, a waterview room near the lobby with an amazing view of Crescent Lake. But it was first floor and we had so looked forward to sitting on the balcony, sitting wine that we planned on buying at the food and wine festival. There were shrubs very near to the door to the patio which made for a narrow seting area. We decided to check at the front desk again to see if there was anything else available. We talked to Meghan this time, she was just great, worked her magic and offered us either 2551 or 4547. I had my map in my hand (but don't worry I didn't let her see it) and so we took 4547. It was a smoking room which I did not want but it was overlooking the quiet pool and had a full balcony.

It was an amazing location. We had a great view of the pool right below us and could see the Swan Dolphin and Boardwalk from the balcony. I am glad we didn't choose 2nd floor because the building that housed the laundry facilites at the pool would have completely blocked the view. The room was great, loved the speakers in the bathroom to listen to the TV! We kept the balcony door open almost the whole time. The room did not smell of smoke at all although the people next door sometimes smoked on the balcony and it would come in our room thorugh the open door. At night we could hear the music at the Atlantic Dance Hall until pretty late but it did not bother us.

Our bellman told us that Travel Magazine was there taping that weekend and we did see a camera crew on a balcony near SAB on Sunday afternoon. Anyone know of this show?

We were such a short walk to Epcot, it was so nice! In the mornings we walked over to the Boardwalk Bakery and sat on the Boardwalk watching the ducks while we ate.

Boyfriend was a little dissapointed in Hurricane Hanna's because it was the first pool bar we visited that didn't have a TV (wanted to watch football). they no longer have the refillable alcohol mugs/sports bottles - I asked the bartender. We did buy 4 of the clear palstic cups with the YC & BC logo there. They were $1.50 a piece and very sturdy. We paln on using htem at home. Unfortunately when we got home we realized we had 3 of 1 size and 1 of the other. I called down to BC and they put 4 more in the mail, no problem. And they were very nice about it. All the CMs were really great.

One night we needed to turn the heater on (left the balcony door open while we went to watch Illuminations) and it did not work, called front desk, after an hour no one came so called housekeeping and 3 guys were in our room ASAP and fixed it.

I took lots of pictures (60-70) with my digital camera but they aren't the best quality since I used my digital camcorder to take still pictures. I am going to try to upload them to shutterfly.com or something like that and then post the link here. Or if you want any, Joe Cool let me know.

I did grab a couple of shots of the construction. We walked around one morning taking pictures and the construction was pretty loud on that side of hte resort, it was about 8:15 am.

The Christmas decorations were up at the resort.

Oh, and this morning I was flipping channels and saw the end of the Denise Austin workout show and she was at YC & BC but I only caught a glimpse of it. Too bad.

I'd be happy to answer any questions

Wendy

Wendy! your post has gotten me even MORE excited to get there already (if it's possible - I've
been so excited for weeks it's amazing I haven't floated out to the stratasphere....

One question. Boardwalk Bakery? I've never heard of it.... tell more...
!
Thanks,
Jody

Hi Jodyb !!!!!! I'm with you in the soooooo excited department. Only 21 more days and we'll be there. Look forward to hopefully meeting you. I'll buy you a cup of coffee in the Concierge Lounge LOL !!!!

The Boardwalk Bakery is just as the name says. A lovely bakery located on the Boardwalk. Terrific pastries !!! A lot of folks staying at YC/BC will walk over and get morning pastries and coffee.

As I may have mentioned in earlier posts, our trip is part of a family reunion. Our children, their spouses, our grandchildren and my DH's parents will be there. The older generation (that's us LOL) will be staying at the YC. My in-laws have no idea what we have cooked up for them. They don't know we're staying on the Concierge Level. DH wants to pull out all the stops for them. He says with what he put them through all his life, they deserve it !!!!!

Figmentvi! I'm not sure we'll "need" the Boardwalk Bakery what with all the goodies in
Concierge!!! LOL
I wish us both the best possible and most magical family reunion vacations!!!

Just wanted to post a link to the pictures I took of the Beach Club this past weekend. I used a Sony Digital Handcam camcorder. Although it is great for digital video, the digital pictures are not the best quality, but okay for posting online. I usually just use that feature to snap lots of resort pictures, use my "regular" for all the important pictures. Since I took so many I did not take the time to label the pictures so if anyone has a questions, just let me know! Lots of the pictures are taken from our balcony, 4th floor, room 4547, above the quiet pool.

WOW! You did take a lot of pictures. My Dh & I were at the BC in September and stayed in room #2549, directly below you. It was a great room, though I'm sure you had a better view being 2 floors higher. Thanks for posting the pics, now I'm aching to get back there!

Wendy,
Were your beds double or queens? Is the small couch long enough for a teenager to sleep on? We leave in 25 days. We are wanting connecting rooms that would have a possible couch in at least one of the rooms so that 2 teens could have a seperate sleeping space. Loved the pictures. Can't wait to see the BC.
Thanks

The beds were queen size. The daybed was smaller than I expected length wise. I guess it would depend on how tall your teenager is. When we stayed at the Contemporary, I thought the daybed there was longer than the one at the BC but perhaps it was my imagination.

I forgot to mention, our balcony had a half wall then the railings for the top half (I hope that makes sense) instead of all railings. I like this better because I didn't feel as self conscious when I sat out there in my bathrobe! It felt really big because our balcony was in the arch section of the building, meaning we had a higher ceiling over the balcony.

Our room was a connecting room.

Glad to answer any more questions.

Thanks Wendy
How about one more question? Was your room smoking or non smoking? I thought I read that the second floor was all non smoking rooms and I would assume that they will try to put us on the 2nd floor. I am just curious if the have non smoking rooms on other floors. We prefer to be on the upper floors but not sure if we can request that or not. I have read that others have stayed in smoking rooms for a better view and that the room didn't smell that bad. I think Joe said we should try for rooms on the 3rd floor.
Thanks for the help

Our room WAS smoking but we decided to chance it. Glad we did. You would never know it was a smoking room. It smelled fine. Just keep in mind though that if you are on your balcony or if you keep your balcony door open and people on the balcony next door are smoking, you will definitely know it! This only happened once. I assume they smoked in their room but we could not smell it unless they were on the balcony.

If you really want the view, try for the upper floor and once you checkin if the room smells like a smoking room, just ask to be moved!

Have a great trip.

Just got back from the BC concierge. Very nice and GREAT CM's (Joe, Ben, Lauren, etc.).

It was a busy week but they got us great Cirque tickets and PS's every where we wanted to eat. Couldn't have been more accomodating.

The concierge lounge is not as big as the YC's and it has a smaller balcony. Food is just like the YC's. We had no problems.

And to be nice I won't relate any of our experiences at the POLY concierge. We'll only remember the good things.

Joe, Thank you for all of the info on this thread. We had a little trouble our first day but otherwise enjoyed our stay. Our first day we were given room 2552 wich is a non smoking room with a view of a tree but had the full balcony I requested. I asked to be moved to a smoking room and the manager said he could move us the next day. Not a problem. We were put in room 4563!!! A smoking room with a 1'x6' balcony. No room for chairs but what a view!!!! We could see the BW, Dolphin & Swan and the fireworks evey night from our balcony. No extra speacial treatment even though it was our 10th Anniversary. Baxter at the front desk was the best!!! He fixed our room and made dinner ressies for us. He is about the nicest person I have ever met. Overall I relly enjoyed our stay and it was nice to have so much info about our resort prior to visit. Thanks Again.
