O.K. I finally made it to the end. Started om page 1. Here is my question. My family of 4, 2 adults and 2 children and staying at the bc Aug 10-15. This is our first trip to Disney!!! We have requested top floor large balcony. We have the discovery plan. Should I know anything else, or request anything else??? I know all of you can help this first timer, this is very important to me. My DH did not want to go to disney, I had to beggggg!!! So I need to make this a wonderful trip for him so we can come back. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!:earsgirl:  :D :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

Horsemom,
Are you in water view or standard view? If you are in water view I would be sure to ask for Boardwalk view. This will put you directly in front of the beach with a great view of the lake.

I am supposed to be just standard view on some side where we can see the firweorks at epcot. At least that is what a cast member suggested before I made my reservation with berwick travel.:D :)

The 5th (top) floor at the BC is the concierge floor. Be aware that most of the 4th floor rooms at BC do not have a full balcony - only a 1 x 3 balcony big enough to stand on. You may wich to reconsider and request a room on the third floor with a full balcony.

we just spent the weekend at the BC concierge (pool/lagoon view)....
the concierge room was nice and our room and view were nice, but the BC is looking very very very very long in the tooth....
it's in major need of renovation...
the numbers on the wall next the the room (the room numbers) were falling off or had fallen off several of the rooms .....and that's on the concierge floor....i was stunned to see the level to which the building had fallen....

You've got me worried now, we're going to the bc in september. I heard somewhere that they are updating starting with the yacht club. Will they be finished both by september though thats the question????

I'm going the end of August and staying on the concierge floor,I'm alittle concerned too. it's not shabby or anything is it? how about cleanliness?

shabby?....hmmm.....no i don't think i'd define it as shabby...
and the room itself was in perfect condition....which is why i find it strange that the hallway wasn't.....i mean, how could the numbers fall off that way and stay on the floor?.....it was a bit weird in my opinion.....
but as i said, the room itself was in perfect condition.....so they must have renovated that more recently....
the concierge room was also in good shape (i think the BC's concierge room is relatively new so it would be in better shape)...

i should be honest and tell you that i've always preferred the decor in the YC......but that's just a taste thing...

also the stairwell, which most people never use, wasn't as clean as it usually is....so i suspect they may have cut back on personnel....we like to use the stairwell that's near the restaurant (cape may cafe??....i think that's the name)....i prefer going up the stairs from the pool rather than walking through the lobby dripping wet....(even 5 flights to the concierge level)....
on the other hand they had an army of people working the concierge room......at most times there were at least 2 or 3 people working the kitchen there....plus another one or two at the desks....

bottom line....i wouldn't be concerned if i were you...
it's still a nice place.....just those numbers on the wall stunned me...
if you notice anything like that you should be a better person than i was and let the manager know...i'm sure he'd want to know and would take care of it right away..

one really good thing that they've added to the YC/BC pool.....they now use armbands (instead of the ineffective hand stamp).....for the first time in all the years we've gone there, the pool wasn't over-run by non-hotel guests....and it's still a great pool....the best on property....

Has anyone stayed at the recently opened Beach Club VILLA yet? I know it just opened July 1st, so I'm guessing I won't find too many people this quickly who has, but I'm very anxious to find out how it is! I would like to find out the best room number or floor or area, etc to request.

Also, can ya'll tell me if the pool at the Beach Club or Yacht Club is a "zero depth" pool like The Grand Floridian's? I believe the Polynesian has one too, but I don't know if any other Disney hotels have them as of now. My little 2 year old just loves walking into the water! He laughs and laughs while he is up to his chin in water! I think he thinks its funny watching me get nervous & naturally I have to be right next to him just in case he starts to float away.

We've obviously never stayed at this hotel, but I sure have heard tons of nice things about it (especially from this thread). We've stayed at the BoardWalk Villas twice in the past and absolutely loved it; Wanted to do something a little different this time & my DH has always wanted to stay at the Y&BC. We will also be staying at the Wilderness Lodge Villa during our trip, so that should be nice too. I just can't wait.

Anyway, any help on room requests would help me out.

Thanks,
Mimi:p ;)

The renovations on the Yacht Club are scheduled to be completed in October. The Beach Club renovations are shceduled to run from October 2002 thru March 2003.

There are several threads on the Disney Vacation Club forum about room locations etc. at the Beach Club Villas. None of the pools at YBC are zero-depth entry, but the main pool (Stormalong Bay) has a sand bottom; not sure what the shallowest depth is, sorry...

The kiddie pool at Stormalong Bay is zero entry. The kids can play in the sand and then run into the water. I don't have small children but I stay at the yacht all the time and I seem to remember seeing small kids playing in the pool from my balcony.

yes the kiddie area is zero entry...
the kiddie area is a separate pool area of stormalong bay so look for it....(stormalong bay is huge....with 3 separate pool areas....
the big sprawling pool that includes the slide...
the lazy river type pool.....
and the zero entry kiddie ppol...)

The pool is one of the main reasons that my husband wanted to stay at the Y&BC Villa... My little 2 1/2 year old thinks swimming is better than Disney World, so I'm hoping that he doesn't like it THAT much! He just absolutely loved the Grand Floridian and the Polynesian's zero depth pools, so I'm sure he'll feel the same about this one, if not more so.

Thanks,
Mimi:Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce:

Yes, the pool is definately one of the top 5 reasons for staying at the Y&B area. My DH was not exactly as disney crazy as I was but after a few stays at the Yacht Club he was hooked on the hotel and now on Disney as well. The pool is definately the best on property. So go and enjoy!!

Ok I need your advice. I really want to stay at the Y&BC in January 2003 especially to check out SAB. We live in a log home, loved the decor at the AKL and generally don't consider myself to be a "pastel" person. Since the renovations at the YC will be complete by then, should I definitely go there? It will be me, my DH and 2 DS's (ages 6 & 7). Since the BC will still be under renovation, should I avoid it? We went to the Yachtsmen's Steakhouse last trip and LOVED IT. It was definitely worth the money. Best meal we had on property. My main concern is that the YC might be a little "buttoned down" for the kids. Do a lot of families with younger children stay there too? I am sorry that I am rambling on but I keep thinking of questions while I type. We never went in the BC lobby but the pictures just seem a little less formal. However I must admit that when we went for dinner at YC we did see people in the lobby in shorts/Tshirts.

I think alot of people mis-interpret the YC as being a little on the stuffy side because of their decor. But it isn't really.

I've seen quite a number of families with children of all ages at the resort. I think you'll just love the YC and certainly your children will love SAB.

Thanks-

I think I'm going to go for the YC b/c the renovations should be complete and the BC is scheduled to be under renovation in January. I would love some room number suggestions or at least which sections to request. If you could suggest both standard and water view rooms. I'm hoping for some good codes in January and then we may be able to go for the water view.

We have stayed in the YC and the BC, with small kids. We were equally comfortable in both. There are always kids in wet swimsuits roaming the halls and lobby of the YC. They have a tv and kid sized versions of the adult furniture in the lobby playing Toon Disney all the time. I would not hesitate to stay at YC or BC again.
