Hey,

OK...after a day and a half where I couldn't get on the DIS...I am now in the process of combing through this thread, picking up the most informative replies from y'all...and integrating them into the first pages of the NEW thread.

I think most of the recent questions on here have been taken care of, so watch for the new thread in the coming days. Oh, and anyone have a website where I can get some MORE beach club villas pictures?

I took a few when I was there, but I'm always on the lookout for more.

Thanks y'all,

JC

Mardoggie, are you counting the days like I am? Only 7 more months. We've got ressies at the BCV and I can't wait! Thanks for the info about the sand toys. We're renting a car and picking up groceries on the way, so I may just pick up some toys for the boys then. They'll probably be cheaper. Maybe we'll see you at SAB!

Pammy jo,
Glad to be of some help.

I've been counting the days since I last returned. :D

We'll be there from the 9th through the 18th. We thought about staying at another resort for part of this trip but as I reviewed all the other options I can't justify not being in the EPCOT resort area. So it's back to the YC for 2002.

Only (?) 201 days to go!

Well, I can't believe it but we have decided not to return to the Yacht Club this year. We have stayed there numerous times over the last 8 years and will not be returning. Over the last few years we have had some less than magical moments at the Y/C but always felt that the good out-weighed the bad and we love SAB and the location so much that we always returned. Last year, the pool was ridiculously overcrowded, our check in was a nightmare due to a particularly rude cm and our waterview room was basically the leg of a lounge chair that we spotted through the overgrown tree in front of our balcony. With the opening of the BCV and the additional guests using SAB we have decided to stay at another Epcot resort. As excited as I am to return to WDW for a 17 day vacation, I hope that we have made the right choice.

:) For those (like me) who missed it before, the Travel Channel will be running the Yacht and Beach Club episode of "Great Hotels" again. It is on their schedule twice in May, on the 13th at 3:00 pm and on the 15th at 11:30 am. If you go to the website of their schedule it will allow you to have them send you a reminder via e-mail. Or you can be like me and put post-it notes up all over the house. (The schedule website address is http://travel.discovery.com/schedule/series.jsp?series=4840)

Also on the schedule of interest to Disney/Orlando fans is the GF, AKL and Universal's PBH!

If someone could please answer this questions it would be greatly appricated. We are leaving Sat. for our vacation at the wonderful Yacht Club however this is the first time we have ever done concierge. We recieved a paper in the mail stating for us to pull up to valet parking and tell them we are concierge and they will park the car for us. The questions is "Is is proper to tip the valet parking attendant?" If any one has stayed at the Yacht club concierge and valet parked could you please let me know how this works.
Thanks

Since I did not get a reply to my post on tipping the valet parking when you are a conceirge guest, I fugured that I would reply to it myself since I am here now. The answer is Yes they do except tips however valet parking is free for the concierge guest but not to others. It is 6 dollars a day for everyone else. This is our first time staying on the concierge floor of the YC and I hate to say it but I would not stay here any other way from here on in. I have a Laggon view room with a beautiful view of the fire works from Illuminations. The lounge offers so much and the staff is wonderful. Yesterday we had our appitizer and drinks (2 Glasses of Merlot) before going to dinner at the Yachtman's Steakhouse. This saved us a total of 175 dollars. The reason for this is we usually order a bottle of wine appitizers the Land and Sea which is 49.99 each person (but they make is soooo well) then we have dessert. My daughter would usually order something from the childrens menu as well. This bill would usually come to 300 dollars not including a tip. This time it was only 125 not including a tip. We did not need wine we had water. We did not need appitizers we had them in the lounge we did not have desert. We had those in the lounge afterwards with a Baily's Irish cream 2 of them. Plus my daughter was so full from the appitizers ( crab rangoons veggie wrap corn dogs little meat quiches cheese. That at dinner she only requested a ceasars salad. I would say that paying the extra for the concierge level is definately worth it if you are going to use what they have to offer. We did and will continue to until we depart on May 4th. If any one has any questions please dont hesitate to ask. I have my laptop and I check my emails regularly. Now on the Cape May Cafe for Breakfast.

Just wondering how the crowds are in the parks -Hope you're having a great time.

ellieb -

Did I read right? Did u say there is NO CHARGE for Valet Parking for concierge guests? When did that policy change? We were there at Xmas and were charged. That is wonderful news though, as we will be returning to concierge at the BC in July for a week and $6 a day adds up.

My friends just returned from the YC it was their 15th anniversary. The originally booked a regular GV and were "bumped" to LV Concierge. They had a wonderful time.

Hope you and your family have fun !!

Michelle

ellieb - I am so envious you are there right now - we still have 78 days before we check into the Beach Club concierge. Do you know how similar the offerings are in conciege between Yacht & Beach Club? Have you asked the concierge services to do anything else for you - I am wondering about the types of services they offer? I THINK the Yacht & Beach Club share castmembers. If this is true, and you see Katina, please tell her how grateful Shannon is with all the help she is giving me with my upcoming July trip. Thanks, and have a great time!! I look forward to your posts, and trip reports!!

Hey!!!!!

Next...I have some news.

On August 23, 2002, I will be relocating to my new home for the next five years (yes, five...): Penn State University. Sorry, Notre Dame, but there's just something about the architecture department at PSU that I love. Plus, even though the school is enormous, it's like each little program exists as its own separate tiny college. My program has 80 freshmen, plus graduate students and about 25 faculty. I think it'll work out great...even greater if I get my dorm preference.

JC -
Five Years in Happy Valley! How I envy you!

PSU is my alma mater (circa 1975-Smeal College - Simmons Hall 4 years) and it has only gotten better in the time since I've left! I still manage to pass through State College and University Park each summer on my drive from NJ to visit family in Pgh. - I even have my daughter considering applying there in two years!

You're absolutely right - the school is enormous - even more so since I've been there - but, it is also as small as you want it to be - so many opportunities to get involved and make friends and form many small "families".

We're going to the BCV in August and will return on the 21st, just as you are doing your last minute packing! I'll be sure to get you a copy of the floorplan and any other info I can put my hands on!

We were at YC Concierge in early Dec. and were also charged the $6.00 per day. I even made a point of asking when we checked in if the valet parking was included and was told no.

ellieb...if you were told otherwise, make sure you check your bill when you check out.

We'll be staying at YC Concierge again this Dec. and couldn't agree more....Concierge is the only way to go !!! They are such wonderful CMs up there.

If you're still looking for BCV construction photos, I have some posted at my Yahoo site:

BCV photos

There are some from 12/01, and a second group from 3/02.

First, let me start out by saying that I am very lucky to be able to spend my vacations on the concierge floors at the BC/YC and I would be he first to agree that the treatment by the CM's is everything one would expect from these first class resorts.

However, let me make a couple of comments about out stay the week after Easter.

My wife and I stayed at the Beach Club on the Concierge floor and were treated wonderfully. We do believe if we are paying the amount that we did we should get valet parking included, or at least include it in the room cost so I don't know I am paying a parking fee. (We have annual passes, isn't parking free at the parks for annual pass holders ?)

Next is the water bottles. Why does Disney feel that we are better off with one liter bottles of Vittel water from France then 16 ouce bottles from Zypherhills, Florida about 20 miles from Orlando. I am sure that the deal given by a local merchant is better that an outside one. And wouldn't the price of a bottle of water in the parks cover the cost of any amount of bottles give to guests on the concierge floors.

I know this may seem minor, but it is these minor things, when taken away from faithful guests, cause us to second guest our choice in staying at a highly rated resort, on the concierge floor, and what exactly we are getting for our money.

Thanks for lettng me vent.

Good points EGOLIAK......I was a little miffed at paying for valet parking when we stayed at YC concierge in Dec.

We'll be staying there again this Dec. But we won't have a car, so it won't be an issue.

I do think that WDW should look into that. $6.00 a day doesn't seem to be too much to give to guests paying up to $100.00/day more for their room than standard rooms.

Grotto, can't open your link to BCV photos (says they're inaccessible). Dying to see them.

I had posted earlier that I had figured that valet parking was free to concierge guest. The reason for this is that they never asked us to pay for it at the desk at the time we parked and they always gave us a free pass to park at other valet parking lots through out the day. Well this service is not free. When we received our bill the valet parking was charged 6.00 a day. Sorry for any confusion I may have caused.
We however had an incredible vacation. One of the best out of all 12+. I cant wait to go back in Dec.

YC concierge RULES!!!!! (as my 11 year old daughter would say)

Just confirmed our 11/10/02 cruise and was told that the Beach Club was booked and that we could not have our land portion of the trip there.
I can not believe that the BC is completely booked this far in advance for this slow time of the year. I am sure there are rooms, just none are set aside for cruise people.

Any suggestions on how I can get rooms there for our trip
-call someone?
-write someone?

Any and all suggestions would be appreciated

Mickeep

I could be wrong, but I think that the cruise packages have a set number of rooms set aside for them: so once that quota has gone, they can't sell any more with the cruise package (despite more rooms being available at the hotel).

Have you checked on the Disney website to see if there are any rooms available at the Beach Club for those dates?

What about staying at the Yacht Club instead?

Have you thought of booking the cruise and land seperately? You might be able to get a great deal?

Sorry I can't be more helpful.

Boo

Isn't that NJ week at WDW? It could actually be booked already. Just a thought - I read something about it on one of the DIS Boards.
