Day 5, Part 1 In Which Minnie Mouse Freaks Out!
Yaaaaaaaaaaaaawn. I slept in!
At Disney, this means it was about 7 AM when I finally rolled my lazy keister out of bed. Yes, I said keister. I am Kevin McCallister's uncle Frank. Please do not record me singing in the shower!
Uh....just kidding. It was about 9:30. And I'm not anyone's uncle. That I know of!
At home, sleeping in for me means that I wake up sometime in between one and three PM and then complain about McDonald's breakfast hours to whatever poor soul is nearest me. Why can't they be like IHOP? Breakfast all day.
There have been men on the moon, and yet McDonald's only sells Egg McMuffins until 10:30 AM.
What kind of crap is that? They need to do the IHOP thing and serve it all day. I actually love eating at IHOP not only because I can get breakfast at 5:00 PM but it reminds me of Disney. When I was little and we stayed off property, we went there every morning for breakfast.
I know, THE HORROR! Off property. Eating at a non-Disney restaurant! But IHOP is good. I mean, I don't go there while in Disney anymore because they don't have Tonga Toast, which is unacceptable. But back in those days, I loved it there. Luckily, there is one less than 5 minutes from where I live.
Btw. Just a random pet peeve.
I hate when people write out IHOP like this: iHop.
NO. It's not an Apple product. It's the International House of Pancakes!!!! Get it right.
Whoa. Wait. This is supposed to be a Disney Trip Report? I'm not supposed to ramble on about restaurants? Oh.
So anyway, I went to get breakfast at Everything Pop. They were still serving it. Whew.
On my very short walk (yay for our room location!), I took some pictures. I love taking pictures of this resort. It always looks so surreal.
I wasn't that hungry so I ordered the Kid's Mickey Waffles. They give you sausage, bacon, and applesauce with it. I don't like applesauce so (trying to hide the fact that I was buying this meal for myself), I said "She doesn't like applesauce, this will just go to waste, but thanks anyway." and handed it back to them.
The CM took it and said, "Do you like yogurt?"
I laughed. I guess a lot of adults order kids meals. I smiled and said no thank you. He said, "Are you sure?" and I said yes. The truth is, I don't know why I lied. I knew Disney would never be like "You're not a kid and you may not have this breakfast!!!!!!!!!!!" but I felt the need to anyway? Whatever!
I paid and headed straight back to the room to devour the breakfast I crave almost every morning: Mickey waffles!
YUUUM! The drink came with it, btw. Not bad for $5. I would have liked more bacon (ALWAYS WANT MORE BACON), but what can ya do? Also, before you think I'm a terrible daughter, my mom didn't want any food. She almost never eats in the morning, so I just filled up her refillable mug with her trusty breakfast: coffee!
I ate on my bed and I guess I was studying the comforter because I posted this on Twitter:
I just realized that Goofy is dressed as a Hippie on my bedspread. Sigh, Disney I love you.
Haha! It was just one of those little Disney details I love so much. Also, it reminded me of the FLAWLESS sequel to the masterpiece known as A Goofy Movie... AN EXTREMELY GOOFY MOVIE. When I write my autobiography, I think I'll steal that title. "Lia: An Extremely Goofy Life. By Lia. Hi." Anyway, in this movie Goofy dresses in 70's garb, which I know isn't the same as 60's hippie chic, but listen, Goofy in vintage clothing is just good stuff. Or maybe I just wanted to watch a movie starring that amazing dog. I DON'T KNOW, YOU GUYS. Why does Goofy have human qualities and Pluto is a normal dog? I DON'T KNOW, YOU GUYS. I wonder if Goofy looks at Pluto in disgust. Like "Dude, have some self respect! Stand up and put on some dern clothes! I love wearing vests." I DON'T KNOW!!!
I'm in a chatty mood today. I know that. You know what else I know, that I found out a few years ago and laughed about for like 3 days? Goofy's original name was Dippy Dawg. I'm not making this up. DAWG! Not dog. DAWG, like "Whazzup, Dawg?" Daaaaaaaaaaaawg. Anyway, back to the trip report.
We chilled out for awhile, got ready, and headed to the Magic Kingdom.
I saw that Mickey and Minnie were doing meet and greets at the Exposition Hall. I really wanted to make sure to meet and get a picture with them on this trip since we hadn't done that in awhile, and I figured now was just a good time as any. The wait said 15 minutes, which was fine cause we were really in no rush.
Wow, seeing this pic now I realize it's not called the Exposition Hall anymore! It's annoying that they call it a theater. That doesn't make sense since they removed the awesome movie theater that used to be in here! Who remembers that? And they had the history of Disney movies on the wall and all of those photo opportunities where you could pose with the character cut outs? But they weren't crappy like when you pose with your head on a cow's body at the local fair. They were really awesome and detailed and it was like you were standing in an actual Disney movie scene. My favorite thing, though, was just chilling out in there watching the shorts they would play. It was such a nice break from park touring. Sigh...
We entered and followed the signs to meet
Master Magician, Mickey Mouse! We walked through the completely deserted line and a CM actually stepped in to escort us back there because otherwise we would have had no idea where to even go, since there were no people. We expected a 15 minute line, but what we found was one family ahead of us. And it was like 11:30! At the Magic Kingdom! And no one was in line to meet the most popular characters IN THE WORLD.
Early December rocks, people. It can't be denied. It's unfortunate that people usually wait on line for things at Disney. I hardly remember what that is like but I assume it's annoying?
After the family in front of us moved on, it was time for us meet the stars of this whole show!
MICKEY AND MINNIE MOUSE!
Every time I even SEE Mickey I get emotional. He just means so much to me. He has been with me every step of the way my entire life. He represents my childhood, of course, but when I see him it's not just nostalgia I feel, because the love is current. I still worship Mickey Mouse. He is the symbol of not only my most favorite place in the world, but also childhood and fun and innocence and joy and magic. How many things did you love AS AN INFANT that you still love now? I mean, besides naps, shiny objects, and games of peek-a-boo... Mickey is pretty much it, at least for me.
So I instantly ran up to him, yelled "HI MICKEY!!!" and gave him a hug that probably almost knocked him down. That would have been just lovely, me injuring Mickey Mouse. Luckily he is used to crazy fan enthusiasm. I said I love you and he gave me a kiss. I didn't want Minnie to get jealous so I instantly turned to hug her. After our hug she got a good look at what I was wearing and her reaction was PRICELESS.
As you'll see in the pics below (yes, I am now going to reveal photos of myself, stalk me IDGAF) I was not only wearing a Minnie Mouse shirt, but I was carrying a Minnie Mouse purse and had Minnie Mouse ears on.
Minnie instantly started jumping up and down and stomping her feet and pointing at all my Minnie fabulousness. She would bring her hand to her mouth (as if to say "Oh, my!") and then point again and then stomp her feet more. It was SO CUTE. She even tapped Mickey so that he would notice too and he started nodding and clapping. I told Minnie she was my favorite even though that isn't really true, since I can't pick a favorite character! I love so many! She instantly hugged me again. IT WAS THE CUTEST THING EVER.
So then we took pictures together! I'm including these even though I never post pics of myself because it was just such a great moment and my face really shows the excitement I was feeling at that moment. Ahh it was so wonderful! Plus, I'm quite proud of all my Minnie garb:
I was sooo happy! My mom joined in for some pics too, though she really doesn't like having her pic online so those will stay in the Disney vault! Oh and btw, you can't really tell, but my earrings are the gloves that Mickey and Minnie wear... in the color pink! I love them!
It was definitely one of the best character experiences ever and I was left with that glow you get when you have a truly magical Disney moment. I was even happier than I usually am while at Disney! That just made my day and honestly, our whole trip. Man, you are really never too old for this stuff. I was on such a high after that.
Up next: More fun in the most magical of Kingdoms.
