This is just so sad,,and makes me ask WHY would someone do this?? I don't call it 'playing'??

I can understand this reasoning, if RCCL closed the windows shortly after the incident. Not as much to prevent “jumpers” but the gawkers, at lest some of whom might lean out trying to get a better view of the police activity on the dock, accidentally or intentionally drop something, etc.

But I honestly don’t know when/by whom those other windows were closed. It may have been immediate, it may have been much later. As I recall, the pictures I saw of the investigators on deck with most windows closed was dark outside, nighttime, so some time later.
Do we know RCCL closed the windows?

I have opened and closed the windows on RCCL cruises. I have sat in the chairs near by and needed some airflow so I walked over and slid the window open. I have done the same but closed the window because the air flow was no longer needed.

I have also noticed on prior cruises that the windows are almost always opened by the time I get up and get going and almost always all closed late in the evening. Could be crew, could be passengers.

I think it's pure speculation

I deleted the picture because I have no idea how accurate it is. Different articles have pictures of different windows claiming that's the window.

Actually I've found a couple of different articles that supposedly show the window. But they're pictures of different windows. So I have no idea which one is accurate.

From what I understand Gramps told the Puerto Rico police his version of how the accident happened. Then a shady lawyer gets involved and says, "NO, you're wrong. This is how it REALLY happened."

I have no doubt whatsoever that Daddy police officer and Mommy the former Prosecutor have complained and griped for years about defendants refusing to accept responsibility for their actions. Yet when one their family members effs up royally, they suddenly change their tune and look for someone else to blame.

Even worse is them trying to profit off the grandfather's negligence. So screw them and their grief.
That's COLD

The Today Show showed a rendering of the deck, and the window they showed as the "culprit" was a rectangular window, about chest/torso height, that slides open and closed. I would lend some credibility to the Today Show since they are the only TV media that has interviewed the family (to my knowledge), and they presumably worked with the family's attorney for the interview as well. They had many still photos that were displayed during the interview, so it seems as if some due diligence was done in preparation for it.

I know some are put off by the family appearing on television. I admit that I was, too. I cannot imagine their grief. They had to come home to a house with their little girl's room, filled with her things, knowing she would never play with her toys again, or sleep in her bed. So as much as I don't care for the TV appearance or the lawsuit, I just wish them peace that they probably won't ever truly have.

I truly hope that if you are ever faced with the nightmare these parents are facing, people have more compassions for you than you are willing to show these poor parents.

He actually just had her leaning on what he thought was a glass wall but the area she was in had a window that opened for ventilation and she leaned on it and fell through. There should never be a window like that in the kids room.
I've let my child lean on glass walls not thinking they'd ever be a hidden window that pushed out. What cruise line ever thought that it was a smart idea to have a window that opened out into the ocean and that was in the kids area. I saw the interview with the mother and they showed a picture of the wall of glass with the window that opened.

Yes I know, I've been on Freedom and a sister ships a few times. I just couldn't tell which particular window it was. Different articles pointed out different areas of the ship. The photo in post 28 is a different window than post 35

Their attorney is an ambulance chaser, so I don't take anything he says as fact. Like saying it was an open window in a children's play area.

It's not a kids room.

It's a window in a seating area near the kids pool. The window is chest high on adults.

The area was not a kid's room. Also, the child COULD have leaned on the bottom portion, which did not open. She was lifted up above the railing. The top windows can be open for ventilation. This ship is an older one and they have been opening them for years. If anything, I would imagine a different type of window would be installed, such as one with horizonal flaps. I do not believe Royal is at fault in this instance.

Voyager class has the same windows. So they've been around for at least 20 years.

*sigh* It wasn't a kid's room, nor a kid's area. Please don't believe everything the media feeds you.

The Today Show said it was a window next to the H2O Zone on deck 11. Due directly straight across from it. The H2O Zone is technically a children's play area, but the open window was probably a good 10-20 feet away from that, behind rows of chairs and on the other side of a walkway. I don't think anyone said which window specifically, but I'm not sure that matters.

The window in question is four or so feet off the ground and is located on a deck that is NOT exclusive to children. The windows do NOT open out but instead slide.

The only way anyone falls out the window is through negligence of the person who fell or negligence of the person who was caring for the person who fell.

Here is a picture I took back in 2014.

Can anyone NOT tell which windows are open and which are closed?

And look at all those balconies and the deck below the life boats. Should RCCL not allow children in balcony cabins? Should RCCL not allow kids on the promenade below the life boats? What about all the open decks above the pool deck? The railings are the same height throughout the ship. If an adult could lose a child from the windows circled they could certainly lose a child from any number of other places on the ship.

The grand father was negligent and it resulted in a terrible tragedy.

🤣🤣🤣
Lets see, the rendering missed the railing (which is rather key, missed the furniture, repeatedly called it a kids play area and told people that RCL was refusing to provide thectspes.
The report was so inaccurate that RCL should be suing the Today show.

No he actually lifted her above and over a safety railing in a public area of the ship.
The window which passengers of the ship have said would be impossible to know wasn't open when standing there, was too high for any child to lean on on their own.
And again the witness reports (so not the reports of the people trying the sue RCL) say the GF was dangling/rocking/swinging the girl out the window.

I think the dangling was a very early report that has never been confirmed since that day.
