Apparently someone in this town with my name is pretty popular.
The problem is, her name isn't in the phone book and mine is.
Oh, and that's not all. Apparently her husband recently passed away and she wrote a beautiful poem and has sent some letters indicating the thoughts about NOT LIVING anymore.
Over the last six months I've been getting approximately a 2 phone calls a month for this person.

Not only that, but when they get me, they want to talk to me about it all. :D About how strange it is and all.
They are really nice, it's hard to hang up on them. lol

At least once a month we get a call for "Matt's Refrigeration", and the people will leave a message on our answering machine saying "we need our stove fixed" or "our refrigerator isn't working" even though our message on our machine is personalized, so don't they hear our names for goodness sakes?! I can never understand why they leave a message, when obviously they got the wrong number.

Oh, I used to get calls for this bar downtown. My number is very close to it. I hate getting wrong numbers at 2am. :p

I used to get calls ALL the time for a near by pizza place.

I'd answer and right away they'd start ordering. Most times the caller would get mad at me because I wasn't the pizza place! Others would ask if I knew the number. Most wouldn't wait or listen for me to explain that they got the wrong number.

After a while I used to just say, "Okay, got it. Ready in 15 minutes." :)

I would have loved to have been at the pizza place when they got there and no pizza.

Oh, that's so mean, and so funny. LOL

I too have someone with the same name. This girl 5yrs younger was a wild thing. She has been in jail for abusing an officer, writing bad checks and shoplifting. I haave been served arrest warrents, that were hers. I was glad when DH gat a job out of town and we finally moved. I have another person with my name @ my office but she so far has been good.

Our phone number USED to be a local bank's phone number! We've had this phone number for about 5 years now and I still get calls for the bank. I have no idea why the bank changed their phone number and I can't believe the stupid phone company would give a former business number to a residence! The first few years I got calls almost on a daily basis, and now it's dwindled down to only a few a year. We didn't have the phone company change the number because when we moved here we had a lot of personalized items made up with our name, address, and phone number....

SeaSpray, I wouldn't want to change it either after going through the expense of all that. It must have been a real pain.

The phone company (SBC) really screwed up when we moved and kept changing our phone number but failing to tell us. The last number they gave us had apparently only recently been changed so we kept getting calls for this girl. Then I start getting calls from guys at 2 am saying "I am so and so who you were talking to at the bar and I had to call as soon as I got home" so she must have been giving guys she wanted to dump her old number so she could blow them off. That nonsense has tapered off after two years but we still get calls for her once in a while.

It was a pain, especially the first couple of years. Most people sounded SO confused when I told them that this isn't the bank anymore. Apparently they had old papers from the bank with MY phone number on it, so they would think they dialed wrong and hang up and call back. lol I always told them "this USED to be the bank's phone number but they changed it, this is a residence now". Fortunately only a few people were rude about it. A lot of them sounded like older people and they were very nice and I would give them the bank's new number. I am SO glad those calls are few and far between now!

My mother's antique shop used to have a number that was one digit away from the police. She got lots of calls intended for them. Sometimes the people were excited and had trouble catching on to the fact that they had dialed the wrong number. She said her phone calls were never dull.

My cell number is the beggining of the number for Ticket Master... so i get calls about once a weel for ticket to something. I used to tell them that this isn't ticketmaster but then sometimes i tell them that we ran out of tickets hehe!! Teach them to ever call my number again!!

LOL, no tickets! :)

I didn't imagine there were so many people with this problem. At least we aren't alone. :)

mrsv, that would be embarrassing.

Merry, I can imagine some of those phone calls.

My law office has a telephone number similar to a real estate company and I get messages all the time asking about seeing a certain piece of property. Initially I returned the calls, but lately I've stopped doing it. I hope the real estate company isn't losing too much business!!

They probably are and it's all your fault. LOL

Nah, they probably realize they dialed the wrong number and try again. I know I wouldn't be returning all those calls.
