This is a strange request

I've been trying to find a site that has pictures of different drugs so I can identify a pill that I have. I just received a prescription from my HMO's mail order pharmacy. This is the first time I have used them. I've been taking these pills for quite awhile now, and I had to question the shape and color of the new prescription. They don't look like the old ones. Calling the mail order pharmacy only resulted in being told they are what I ordered. I didn't get to talk to a pharmacist, just a go between with the service rep. I use to have a PDR book that showed all pictures of the pills and tablets.

Does anyone know of any sites that have the information I need?

I don't know of any websites, but can you call a local pharmacy such as Walgreens and ask a real pharmacist there? Or, maybe you can take the pill into a pharmacy and show the pharmacist. Just a thought.

I had that thought too Jeafl, but I was hoping I could find something now. After work tomorrow I'll bring the pills to a local pharmacit to see what he can tell me. I just worry it may be some other kind of medication. Plus I counted the pills, and there was only 78...should have been 90 there. I've used mail order for years with my last HMO, and never had a problem with them.

PDR does have an online site but you have to be registered to use it. (Search PDR online)

If I couldn't get a real pharmasist on the phone I wouldn't take anything I had a question about.

The only reason I can think of for a med looking different is if it was a generic vs. brand.

I dont know if this site will help you but it has different pills on there and it links to the pictures.
i think alot of them are illicit drugs,etc but maybe you can find something that will help.

whatever you do DO NOT take ANY of those pills until a pharmacist or doctor looks at them and gives you the ok!!!

my boyfriends boss was on some sort of medication. well he could not take the generic brand because it would interact with some other pill he was on. the pharmacy mixed the name brand and the generic !!! he wasnt paying attention to what the pills looked like and had a reaction. thankfully he is fine now. it could have been worse. please have them looked at before you take them.

My pharmacy just gave me the generic for my birth control pills. I went to a search engine and typed in the name and it came up. Have you tried that? I agree with everyone else, do not take them until you get this straightened out and keep us posted, ok?

I've tried the pdr page, and thank you thelooneyhouse for the link. Since it's not an illegal drug, it's not there. I will definately not take it until a pharmacist checks it out.

A good reminder to count your pills. The news has been full of stories of pharmacies shortchanging prescriptions.

Do you have a 24 hour pharmacy nearby? That's what I'd try.

Thanks for the links. I finally got pictures, and saw the one I wanted. It is a generic, and different manufactures have different colors and shapes. I'm alright now.

I'm glad it was the right pill but you were right to be concerned and check it out.

In the last few months my DD has been given, or I should say could have been given, the wrong meds. Once she was inpatient in the hospital and they tried to give her something like dexidone instead of prednisone and then last month the pharmacy we always use refilled her presciption with 240 mg. of her blood pressure meds instead of 120. Both times I caught it thankfully.

I have actually gotten the wrong RX before....Thankfully I have been on my Paxil for so so long that I knew exactly what they were supposed to look like and I knew that wasn't them. They had actually just confused 2 RXs in my profile and given me synthroid instead of Paxil....I take both of them but still....I always look and make sure.

Yikes, Liz...that is so scary. But it's so true. You have to know what your taking and check out each and every prescription you get.

we got them refilled at Shop ko where we usuall took them, and the pharmist said these pills will look different because we are using a different Company. so we thought nothing of it.

So we were giving it to him like we were suppose to 1 (0.1 of Clonidine) to help him sleep at the time he was on it for 3 months.

About 1/2 an hour after he took it he was climbing the wall this was Christmas Eve. He was screaming crying laughing but wasnt relaxing. We called his doctor and he asked us to desribe the pill and we did. and he said that doesnt sound right. So he asked us if we had any Clonidine left and we did so we gave him that this is at 3;30 in the morning. And he feel asleep.

The day after Christmas we took the pills to Shop ko and they asked to see the pills my sneaky husband kept a few at home. they looked at the pills and said they were sorry. and they was nothing more they could do and they said since we didnt have a prescribiton they had to keep them.

We went all over town, with the pills my husband kept and tried to find out what is was Walgreens took on of the pills and said they would look into it. So in the mean time i took my child to the doctors to see if he was okay. and he was thank god

My husband contated a lawyer and there was no case because it didnt cause any damages.

The Walgreens Called later that day and the found out that it was a muscle relaxer. And the name so close to Clonide it has the first 5 letters are the same.. scarry

We now use Walgreens and there bottles and there write up explains what they look like and what is on the pills .
