This half time has to

I find it so interesting to take this viewpoint. It's okay to say "it's not my kind of music". I don't get the need to label something in this manner. I thought it was a blast and really loved it, but I can understand some people being less so. I'm not a big country fan, but I enjoy some acts. If it had been a country act that I didn't enjoy, I wouldn't feel the need to say "just a bunch of hicks" or whatever.
I could not agree more. It's all personal preference. Calling it trash is beyond unnecessary - if you don't like it, don't watch. There are other threads (non-Disney) claiming it's the best SB show ever. So clearly the opinions run the full spectrum. But it happens every year with the SB. The artist is too old, or too young, or country, or this or that. If it's not for you, change the channel for 15 minutes......

What is wrong with changing direction? I think discussing the half time show is beating a dead horse at this point after 9 pages.
Because it’s every single sports thread.

And you don’t have to participate if you don’t like the way the thread it going. There are a TON of soccer threads you can contribute to instead. The rest of us are still talking about this.

The funniest thing to have happened in semi-recent halftimes was when Katy Perry was the main act but she had Missy Elliott appear. The young Katy fans were like "Katy just made that girl a star" not having any idea who she was (which is understandable). I literally chuckle when I think about it.

Soccer finds a way to make it work. The most valuable sport franchises are soccer teams. Not NFL teams.

Once the NFL starts allowing teams to put sponsorship on their uniforms, maybe we'll see a few less ads. Although it hasn't really changed the NBA, and they've begun allowing it.

Less ads and sponsors means higher ticket prices with today's salaries..... That ship has sailed long ago.

They’ll add more just to get more revenue. NBC/Fox already do pop out ads while sporting events are happening live.

I think the slow pace of the game will lead to young viewers becoming uninterested. This has already happened to baseball. The average age of the Mariners fans at T-Mobile park is 60+. Baseball will die off first but football will be soon behind unless they speed up the game. 10 minutes of action over 4 hours will not keep the youngsters tuned in.

So many kids play football and many have dreams of being in the NFL. Football culture is alive and kicking. My youngest son started to play in 7th grade not because he didn't want to play as a kid but I refused to give up my August for youth football. I never bought into the football culture, but the other parents around me definitely drank the kool aid. I like all sports and will watch sports before any tv shows.

Gambling is another reason football will be around for many years.

I could have taken it or left it musically, to be honest, but only because I was more into Alternative (before it called that) and Punk back in the day. I only saw it because my cousins were raving about it. I can see why they enjoyed it so much, the performances were very good, and they're both Rap/Hip Hop fans so of course they had more of a nostalgia factor than I did.

I can't believe I just used the word "nostalgia." Jeebus, now my hip hurts.

Now that is a good point. LIve streaming the real time odds during a game where you can bet on every play. That would bring in far more revenue that the current cutting to a commercial break model.

Unless something has changed in the past couple of years, football participation is declining...

The brain damaged football players is really cutting down on the number of youth that play. When you have NFL players say they will never let their kids play you know the league has a problem. They will still get players in the NFL but they will be increasingly from other countries like baseball where most of the players are born outside of the US.
