Today was our first day back from spring break and a very sweet girl in my class asked me why I liked WDW so much because she found it so boring. :guilty:

I named 20 things off the top of my head and asked if she did any of them...
CP, CM, Soarin, EE, Fantasmic!, Illuminations, Specto Magic, Philharmagic, Wishes, BTMRR, SM, Barnstormer, Donald's, Casey's Corner, Sci Fi...didn't do or see any of these.

How is that possible??? I told her she needed to go back with me ;)

She did say that it was crowded last week, but I think everyone already knew that.

Maybe Mom and/or Dad take the vacation to get away, not really do the Magical part of Disney...just stay at the resort and veg out....leaving a child to beleive Disney is boring...maybe they put her in the kid's clubs and leave her there all day and night...babysitting services at night also?????Can't understand how a child could or would consider Disney boring....but then again you're talking with one of the biggest fans on earth!

It's funny how you can talk to non-magic people who have been the WDW and they just don't get it. I'm 39 and I love it and have more fun than my 5 and 9 year olds!!!!

Next trip, 2008.... can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!!! :cheer2:

My niece and nephew went in Feb for the first time 8 and 10yrs old.
they said it was OK but weren't really excited about their trip.
I found out, they didn't do one evening show or parade. they spent most of their time swimming at the resort. I do think it is the parents that help to make WDW magical for their children.

I have had the same conversation with many many people. i finally have come to a conclusion about the "Disney magic"....

some people feel it...some people dont. 6 more days and ill be at siesta's at coronado drinin a margarita! whoohoo!

She is in high school.

Last year I gave my trip report to one of my students who was leaving and they did many of the things that we did and she had a blast. I wish I had the chance to pass along some fun things to do.

I can remember when my brother and I were in high school and we went to MK (only park there) and we had fun, but MK is not the thrill theme park that many high school students look for so from that aspect I could she why she thought it was boring, but she didn't even go on any good stuff! I guess her brother didn't make her sick on the teacups either like mine did :headache: I should ask her if they went on RnR or ToT.

We were talking during announcements (I'm bad) and when we were done she said she needed to go back with me.

Thats sad and funny as DD's teachers heard I was the King of Disney (had some others go with us and showed them what it was about). Now want to go on every trip.

If they only really knew about the real Pros on this board. I just tell them you know when were going let me know and come on down.DD not to happy about that.

I think my signature--says it all :goodvibes .....if ya got it ya got it..if ya dont :sad2:

We took my DD17's best friend last year. Now, we live in Florida, about 90 minutes from WDW and this girl has been a few times (I think 4). Anyway she had never been on any rides except IASW, Dumbo, HM and POTC. I remembered that she had been for several days with her family a few years ago and I asked what they had done the whole time, she said shopped and swam at the hotel (THEY HAVE A HUGE POOL AT HER HOUSE) :sad2:

A few months later her family asked if they could take my DD17 on a three day trip to Universal. Friday they left here at about 6 at night (Day 1), Saturday they spent at the hotel pool (Day 2), Sunday they arrived at US/IOA at around 11, rode a few rides and were home at my house (90 minutes away) by 5:30. This was in July by the way when crowds are high and hours are long.

I'm a TA and am constantly amazed by the amount of clients who don't want to do WDW, excuses range from 'We don't like rides' to 'Oh No I can't bear the thought of theme parks'' , 'My kids need education on their holidays', 'I hate anything thats so contrived'.
I've just got to the stage where I just shrug my shoulders and think 'Good, less crowds for me!'
When they say to me 'Being a travel agent must be so exciting, you get to go everywhere!, where do YOU go on your hols?' and I answer 'Walt Disney World', it makes them think - If I can do it when I have 'access' to everywhere, there must be something good there. especially as we're coming back for the fourth time in september

you don't mean "Muggles". Non magical folk, who don't get or appreciate the magic of Disney, or enjoy Walt Disney World.

Ny next door neighbor took her two girls and did practically nothing. I'm going to take her oldest with us next trip.

Most people just don't do their WDW homework so they have no idea what to do or how to get it done. If we went with no planning, and little understanding of how to manage our time and manuever the parks efficiently we'd probably not get it either. As it is we are very well researched therefore we really enjoy ourselves and get a lot out of it.

I'm not quite sure how this is done. I'm planning a trip in June with my entire family. That would be myself, wife, 3yr and 41/2yr olds, mother-in-law, older sister, brother and his family-19yr, 17yr and 15yr olds. None of the kids have ever been and my sister and brother have not been to all the parks or were there on a convention. My wife and I have been together and loved it. I have been twice before with friends and their children. I try to go every five years. Now that I have children I hope they love it as much as my wife and I do. My question is how do I make it interesting for my brothers kids. They like to have fun and ride rides but their parents aren't always gung-ho. I've made reservations for Aloha show and several character meals because of my small children and I know they will like that. We are not doing water parks on our package but might do one day there. We are there for 7nights and 8 days. Any suggestions?
Thanks,

It truly is amazing how different a trip to WDW if you research. I come from a family of Disney fanatics, so I guess it is my blood. We live in CT, but always came down to MK (it was the only park at the time) once a year as kids. My son is 13 and has been 10 times to WDW and once to DL. I can't imagine life without Disney. Actually, when hubby & I met, he'd only been once when he was 7 or 8. The year we met, I told him that my son and I were going in November and asked if he'd like to join us. He knew just how much I loved WDW and thought there couldn't possibly be a better place to propose to me, so he did it there at Cinderella Castle (not in the restaurant, just outside the castle, got down on one knee and popped the question). So, it is an even more magical place to me now than it was before!

Ahhhh!!! That is so nice! Reading your post about your proposal gave me goose bumps!!!! :thumbsup2

I agree that so many people do no research or planning before arriving at WDW for the first time and they are totally overwhelmed and end up turning in circles the whole time and not getting very much done. We go to WDW atleast once a year, if not more and I am constantly being asked, what else is there for you to do? Haven't you seen it all by now? Of course, this is from family that has never been at all. Disney is an awesome vacation as long as you know what you are doing and plan ahead. I am always giving my advice to friends and co-workers when they are planning their trips and send them to these boards! One thing that always amazes me is when you see families with preschoolers and infants at WDW in the summer and on holidays or during Spring Break! You want to say, why are you here in high season, come in May or Sepember, early November when everyone else is in school! Again, no planning or research done.

My sister went to WDW for her honeymoon as it is DW and my obsession she thought she would have a great time as well. Of course I tried to offer all of the advice I could, none of which she took and when she came back it had been a horrible time and they hadn't seen or done ANYTHING. I just kept naming stuff and they hadn't done any of it. I really think that in a week there they only did 3 or 4 rides or shows. I don't even know how thats possible but, everytime I have heard of this situation it is those who won't take advice from those who have been or do any planning that have a miserable time and want to blame it on Disney. :wave2:

She must have parents like my SIL. I took my brother's family when I first bought DVC. It was the worst trip I've ever had @ WDW. I made ressies for some Character Breakfasts but it was too early for them to get up. We spent more time riding the Buses that doing the rides. After a couple of hours each day it was "The girls want to go swimming so let's go back to the room. We'll come back tonight." Which we never did. The food was "too expensive" so we had to leave the parks for dinner. One night my brother had to get pizza from someplace they always got it from when they rented a house off property. The place must have been on the east side of Orlando because he was gone for over 2 hours. I've been back many times since without them & had many wonderful memories. I'd love to take the girls myself but I don't think it would go over too well if I didn't invite the parents too which will never happen again.

My very first trip to WDW was in 1993. At the time I did not have internet, so I could not have found The DIS. Even before my very first trip I researched the Birnbaum's Book. People should at least read that one. We don't have any children - and we are both a bit .... "older", so I decided that somewhere during the first two weeks of December were the best. ( I don't do well in very hot weather )

I have handed my recently expired Birnbaum's books to many people.
And did they read them ????? Nooooooo ! One of my co-workers missed Spaceship Earth because she had no idea that there was a ride in there !! :confused3

I think that everyone has a different idea of how to enjoy their vacation. The problem is when their kids are dragged on the parents vacation rather that the family vacation. We took my DH nephew years ago, and he had been many times. He really did not want to go, but finally decided to join us. He had been but with his grandparents, not with an uncle who was a kid at heart and three more kids. Now this was before Epcot was even completed, but he had a ball because he got to enjoy the magic thru childlike eyes rather than with two adults who loved him very much but were not very much fun.
