We are DVC members and are thinking of going to DL in June of 2012. We have NEVER been and have been to WDW 18 times ( just returned on Thursday). Our middle son graduates in June of that year. I think it would be a great trip. My husband thinks I am nuts. LOL He thinks WDW had far more to do. I know airfare will probably be HIGH from the east coast. I think DL also does the military park passes as well. We would probably get those. Is food much higher than the FL parks??? Any advice???

I want to mention that in June of 2012 DCA is expected to have Carsland open. You might want to come later in the summer, just in case there are delays with that.

Well, even though I've been to DL over 20 times, I still want to go to WDW at least once in my lifetime! I don't think you should choose not to go to the other just because you've been to one. I can't make comparisons for you, but I can make a couple of comments. June 2012 could be crazy busy if Carsland opens on time. If it doesn't, you might be disappointed to have missed it, so you may want to reconsider the June date if at all possible. DL does offer military passes. I would think food is higher priced than in Florida, and from what so many people say, you won't get the same kind of dining variety and options you may be used to. That doesn't mean there isn't some good stuff, you just have to look for it. My friends from around here (Northern California) who have been to both WDW and DL all commented on how amazing the food in WDW was and how relatively less expensive it was than DL food.

Oh okay...thanks for sharing that information.

Is Carsland a new section of DL? Or one ride??? I think I would take the advice of going to DL during the week days vs. weekend days. That might make a difference too with the new attraction.

I'm having the same struggle, OP. I really want to go to DL, but I know it will cost a lot to fly the four of us there. For the price, we could go longer to WDW and/or stay in a nicer place. We have been to WDW several times. But I really want to make it work for DL in 2012 - just not sure it is in the budget.

It's a new land going into DCA. It is going to have three new rides open in it.

Hmmm I wonder if it will be like Harry Potter World at Universal in FL..they had insane crowds when that opened in 2010. :scared1:

I read about HP and I doubt it will be that crowded as DLR has so much else to do. But it will be crowded at first like all new things are at Disney. I would not for a moment let that stop you though.

Hmmm, I would place my bet squarely on him changing his mind once he:

1. Sees World of Color at DCA

2. Sees Aladdin at DCA

3. Rides Indiana Jones at DL

4. Rides Space Mountain at DL (it puts MK's version to shame)

5. Experiences the summer weather at DLR compared to WDW (if you dare try WDW in the summer)

Remind your husband that the four WDW parks only have 10% more rides than the two DLR parks (which will shrink to about 5% once CarsLand is done) and that a case can be made that the four top shows at DLR are all better than WDW's top shows.

Does WDW offer more than DLR? In many ways yes. In some ways no. Is the experience equally magical? Definitely yes!

Good luck!

Include us in too for June 2012! We are also planning our very first DL trip in June 2012. I will make sure Carsland is open when we make our plans. We are taking a break from WDW while they work on Fantasyland & the Pleasure Island/DTD area. All of us are very excited to see the original to all the magic. Plus we are planning some other Southern CA attractions.:woohoo:

My boys will be graduating high school in 2012 too! Scary to think how close that is!

I would really consider July instead of June. First, to allow more time in case of delays with Carsland. But mainly because with a new land opened up all the locals are going to flock to DLR before their Socal APs are blocked out. You can go to the DLR website look up what the block out days are for the coming year. Also in June you have several Grad Nights where DL is closed early and you have middle schools taking an end of the year field trip or 8th grade grad trip.

Hmm... maybe I should stop telling people how much better July is because that's when we like to go. If they all go in June, all the better for us. ;)

Sometimes the military can get deals on flights as well as tickets, not always though. Don't forget the military, as of right now, gets free entry into Sea World and reduced entry into a lot of other So. Cal attractions! Also make sure to check Southwest.com for flight prices. Sometimes they can have killer deals.

I just want to say that you will L O V E DLR :)

I was looking at DVC points and June is cheaper points wise than July but it does seem like July would be better than June since the AP's are black out days for CA residents.

I agree with this ~ we visited over the 4th of July weekend last year *even Deluxe AP holders were blocked *same with Thanksgiving weekend ~ we were also there then* All of July and most of Aug you'll find that the S CA AP holders are blocked which helps with crowds.
