Hi everybody!

First off, let me just stress that I love the DVC. However, I am considering selling our interest in SSR. I am 8 months pregnant with our first child and I am positive that we won't be going back to Disney (we've enjoyed two great vacations since we bought a year ago) until our little boy is at least three years old. Also, now that we have had a chance to poke around all the resorts a bit, We LOVE the Beach Club and are very interested in Animal Kingdom and Contemporary once those start to sell.

What do you think?
Thoughts? Advice? Good idea or bad idea and why?

I think it would be smarter to rent your SSR points, the price of SSR is low with disney promos. You can rent for 10.00 easy and help pay dues. AKV could be very expensive and I don't think a 7 month booking window will be a problem using your SSR UY.

I agree with this also. With Disney selling SSR at $86 and so many SSR on the resale market, you would be better off renting out your points for a couple of years. Even if you don't loose any money selling your points now, how much are points going to be in a couple of years?

Selling and buying within a couple years seems to be a lot of work. Plus, you have the banking option, at least for one year. I agree with renting the points to cover your expenses for the next three years.

I was positive last summer that this year we wouldn't be going to WDW, but guess what....I'm pretty sure I was wrong.

BTW, congratulations on your little one. I hope all goes well with the remainer of your pregnancy.

I agree. Assume selling SSR now and buying AKL in 2 years. You're likely looking at a loss of in the $20-30 per point price range as a minimum, possibly more. It wouldn't make sense to sell now and then buy in to the resorts that expire early unless there was a significant price break far more than there is currently.

Just a gentle warning that this plan might change once you see how cute your toddler looks dancing around the house singing the "hot dog dance" song from Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. At about 18 months-2years old, your little boy will likely become "best friends" with his Playhouse Disney pals. Your home will magically fill with JoJo and Handy Manny. Do not underestimate the appeal of Playhouse Disney, or the age at which kids know and love their favorite muppet/mouse/cartoon.

I teach a Sunday School class of 18 month-2.5 year olds and when I wear my Mickey watch and sweatshirt - they all know who Mickey is and the ones that have been to WDW let me know that they met him! :) With banking/borrowing, you could easily swing a trip when he's around 2, and even get a unit large enough to bring along an extra pair of grandparent hands so you and dh could have a few nights out alone.

i wouldnt sell you said you wouldnt go into your kid gets at least three you might change your mind. you might want to take your son or daughter to see it sooner. or you can take another vacation using your points to the 500 plus places we can go using points.
you said you might want to buy into bcv you know you will be losing 12 years worth of points. the beginning of them 12 years will be a good time to take your grandkds.
a good thing to do will be to give someone a free stay at disney using your points for babysitting ( parents, inlaws, etc.)

I agree with Starbox. We've been bringing my now 5 year old son since he was 8 months old. We've enjoyed every minute of it. ( Well not every minute :teeth: )

Seeing the kids at different ages at WDW really is priceless. Each age they can experience something new and different. I encourage you not to lose those first three years. Just go knowing you won't be commando through the parks.

Now selling SSR to buy another resort???? I'm with Dean and the others. That might not be a wise choice. Certainly a money losing one. I own SSR and have used those points to stay or rent at all of the other resorts at 7 months. Why not at least give that a try until you cannot get into the resorts you like at 7 months? IF that happens then look to sell.

Also if you are worried about what to do with the points now that you are pregnant, I'll help out. Drop me a pm and if you are willing to transfer I'll take all of your points off your hands in 2007. That wil buy you some time before you need to make a decision. I'm serious with this so pm if interested. And NO I won't insist on using Western Union because I lost my ID. :goodvibes

OK, thanks everyone! You (with the help of my mom) have changed my mind-- we're not going to sell. We'll rent out our '07 points and bank '08 if we decide not to go down. SSR was a great deal and once our family is complete we'll need more points anyway to stay in 2-bedrooms, so this will all work itself out.

Thanks again!

I agree with starbox too. I first brought my kids when they were 4,5,and 7. Now they are teens and I wished we had gone when they were younger than that. That first time, they had stars in their eyes and thought the characters were real. It was not only more magical for them but for us. I was amazed at how kid friendly the hotels and restaurants were. Now had we had a 2 br so they could have 3 tvs, DVD, a fridge, 2 baths, and all that room instead of 1 room at Yacht Club  (this was pre-DVC) then it would have been even more magical. I say keep it. Traveling with a young one is hard, but you won't find anywhere else that will accommodate small ones like Disney.

I think that you made the right decision to not sell your DVC. Our son is 2 and about to take his second trip to WDW. He absolutely LOVES to be there and has almost wore out the 3 WDW videos that we have. He loves the Disney World website and we can tell just how much he remembers about his first trip last Christmas.

He doesn't like the new planning video as much as last years, though. Erin was his girlfriend. She has no idea how many kisses he's given her over the last year. I do because I'm the one cleaning the TV screen constantly.
