thinking about booking free dining offer

I have never taken advantage of free dining at WDW because it is usually offered during August and September and it is too hot to enjoy WDW at that time. I just saw the new Disney Visa free dining offer good Sept-Dec and was thinking of booking. Do you pay full price for the room and tickets to get free dining or can you get an AP or FL resident discount on the room and then purchase the tickets and get free dining? How hard is it to get dining reservations during free dining?

You need to pay rack rate aned purchase at least a 1day ticket for everyone in your party in order to get free dining.

Disney doesn't let you stack discounts..I wish they did! Some people have been having trouble booking their ADRs 90 days out, some have had no problems. I booked my 90 days out for the last week of August and got everything I wanted within one hour of the times I wanted. I even changed one to Le Cellier @7:00 about 3 weeks later. Luck of the draw.:confused3

Le Cellier- Yum! I am making my reservation tomorrow, ADR's too. Hopefully I'll get some good ones like you did. Thanks for the info, now I'm excited! BTW, your cat in the hat and dog pictures are very cute.

so for the free dining, if there are 3 of us, we would need 3-1 day base tickets at least to get the free dining package with our room right, not just 1-1 day ticket added to the room to make a package. Trying to figure out if I want to try to do free dining or Passholder package.
Thanks
Melissa

All persons in the room must be booked on the same minimum package.

So.. yes, each person in the room would require at least a one day ticket. The trick is - you don't HAVE to use those on this trip. Completely unused tickets do not expire.

So for any members of your party who have an annual product (Florida, or Annual pass for example) .. can save the 1 day ticket and apply it to the renewal of their pass. And for those who need more than a 1 day ticket can upgrade the 1 day ticket on arrival to whatever they want/need for this trip.

Make sense?

Just make sure you price it out before changing your ressie. Your savings (or not) really depends on how many are in your party and your resort/room type. For us, the offer didn't end up being so "free", so we stuck with what we had. I admit I'm a bit jealous when I hear people getting these savings of hundreds of $$$. I would love the price difference to be in our favor!

Exactly how do you purchase a 1 day ticket? Can you do that online or do you have to talk to an agent? We have AP's so I was just wondering how you could get dining while not paying for unwanted park tickets.

You would book the 1 day ticket as part of your free dining package. To get the Visa offer, you must call to book, and tell the CM that you want only 1 day tickets.

If you get the AP discount on the room, you can pay for dining without getting an unwanted ticket. We found that this (AP discount + paid dining) was a better deal for our family, since we're only 2 and wanted to stay either mod or deluxe. Then I crunched some more numbers, and found that AP discount + TiW discount for meals was even more beneficial than adding dining, so I have a room only discount during this time.
