Hi! I hope this is ok to post here. I know some of this has been answered in other threads over time but I’m hoping to get some more recent perspectives. We are going to WDW from 12/30-01/04 and plan to have resort days on 12/30 and 01/03. We are two families of four, each family with a 5 year old and 8 year old. The first resort day will be at SSR and the second will be at AKL. My question is: do you have any insights to share of things you’ve done on resort days at SSR/AKL that really made your stay? I know there are the community halls, the activity boards, and obviously at AKL watching the animals and SSR Disney springs, but I find sometimes we stay somewhere and then afterward learn about some cool opportunity we wish we hadn’t missed. So I figured I’d ask the experts! Anything we should be sure not to miss at either of these resorts? Thank you!

Surrey bike rental at SSR… great fun!

AKV has some good talks on the animals near the pool bar at Kidani and also tours round the African artefacts in the Jambo lobby (although not sure if that would be fund for kids). They say it’s the largest collection of African art outside of Africa (questionable… but still impressive).

Both have a good arcade - much fun to be had playing guitar hero on a resort day!

Thanks so much! I didn’t realize SSR still had an arcade so that’s a great idea. I think our older kids will enjoy the artifacts and cultural stuff ( at least for a minute or two ha). Also great note on the surrey bike!! That was one I regretted missing on our last trip and I need to remember to make sure we do it this time. Thanks for the tips!

Also, check this thread for the AKL activity calendar as time gets closer, to see what’s been offered during recent months. Some activities are free and some have a cost. https://www.disboards.com/threads/monthly-resort-recreation-calendars.3871996/
ETA - there’s an SSR activity calendar posted every month and collected in that thread, too.

I know they have this at many (all) resorts but we did S’mores when we were at AKL last year with my then 5 year old and it was a big hit - she’s still talking about it!

Thanks so much, this is a great point! We’ve only done it once and it was a big hit for both the 5 and 8 year old.
