Things from the 70's and 80's that no longer exist... and you miss them.

Hey I grew up in Philly and there was always a group of guys playing halfsies in front of this warehouse on my corner. We loved pimple balls and the black magic super bouncy balls.
I miss big hair
lacey clothes
The Love Boat and Fantasy Island
Land of the Lost
Saturday morning cartoons
Levi's cords in colors with your hair comb in the back pocket
zotz and other penny candy
big Sunday dinners at my grandmothers

Grape Ape

My Mrs. Beasley doll

Straight leg Levis

David Lee Roth :lovestruc

Jolly Good Cherry Soda

Frogger, Q-bert and Pacman on my Atari :goodvibes

roller skating every Friday night

Mutual of Omahas Wild Kingdom on Sundays

The Wonderful World of Walt Disney on Sunday evenings :goodvibes

Swiss Alps Cream Soda

All in the Family

OMGosh those were the days :goodvibes

We used to have a bar of chocolate called a 54321 and I really miss it - I wish they would bring it back :cutie:

Cool thread!

70's:

Muscle cars (i.e. Camaros and Firebirds with 454 V8's)

DH has 2 he is restoring - complete with T-tops.

Here's some more:

8-track players
"Who Shot JR" t-shirts
Avocado Green & Harvest Gold appliances
SHAG carpeting
Lava lamps

Cool. Nothing like the sound of a V8 muscle car. :car:

It can raise the dead, I think. I do have to admit (only one is running right now) - it is pretty cool (don't tell DH though - I'd loose my b'ing rights).

Did anyone else wear Army jackets back then? My dad got me one from the Army surplus, a lot of kids wore them...Embroidering on the back was "in", too.

POW bracelets. I finally took mine off because it was starting to crack. When I went to Washington, D.C. in 1990 something, I took it there and found my guy's name. My DS8 found it in my jewelry box a few months ago and completed the break...:sad1:

Summit Bars :sad1:
The REAL Scooby Doo
After School Specials
Ma and Pa Kettle re-runs
Pepsi in a glass bottle
Charleston Chews-We used to freeze them, then try to eat them frozen. Yeah, that was smart. :rotfl:

Love this thread!

I'll list a few that I don't think have been mentioned yet (I agree with so many that already have been mentioned):

Dr. Demento (a radio show that played funny songs)
Creature Double Feature (every Saturday in Mass. they played two giant monster moives on channel 56)
Larry Bird and the Celtics of the 80's
Watching TV and not hearing any swears
My Commodore 64
the Banana Splits TV show
Ordering books in school using those really cool book ordering forms (I forget what they were called, but nothing beat the excitement of having your books get delivered right to your class).

I miss the 80's movies like: Sixteen Candles, Better off Dead, Breakfast Club and Footloose.

I also miss the 80's TV shows: Family Ties, Growing Pains and The Cosby Show.

I miss being able to take a $20 to the mall where you could buy lunch, a BOP magazine, Reeses PB Cup, and an Album and still have money left over!

Definitely have to agree with this. Most of the shows out now are crap...and I know it ran into the 90s too but The Wonder Years. Man, I miss that show.

And add St Elmo's Fire, Lost Boys, Goonies, and Stand By Me to the list of movies...

Does anyone remember the old Talk n Play toy? I absolutely loved mine and have no idea where it is now.

I don't remember what they were called, but there was a candy - I want to say in the late 70s or early 80s - that looked like an M&M, but it tasted like mint. The only colors in the package were brown and light green. Instead of having an "M" printed on them like an M&M does, it had a crown. Does anyone remember what it was?

Royals or Royal mints?

REAL arcades with 8 to 20 (or sometimes even more) pinball machines in them

Big hair!

You've all listed so many great things, some I'd completely forgotten about, some that made me smile!

I miss my hopes, dreams and desires!
