They've cancelled school for tom????? WTH?

REALLY?? what town if you don't mind me asking? I ask b/c my dh grew up in Perryton the panhandle ...I've been there lots of times to see his dad...cute little town..

I'm in Amarillo. It's gonna be yucky out there today.

Are you in TX?

We're in SW Oklahoma, and the only thing we've had all morning has been rain. Granted I've lived in PA and CO for most of life so I probably have a higher tolerance for winter weather, but this is crazy. I told my DS, he has a rain day today:rotfl:

That is further down than Perryton ..My fil keeps saying he is going to take me there when we go but so far nothing :confused3 :lmao:

oh well I'll get there on of these days...:thumbsup2

It looks like this will miss the Dallas area.

I'm grateful when they cancel school when there's actual ice out there. The people around here don't know how to drive in it, myself included!

We get a ton of snow days in Wisconsin, they even build days into our school system for snow days. So the south isn't the only area, that will call off school in anticipation of snow. But up in northern Wisconsin and the UP of Michigan, they receive so much snow-they wouldn't have school all winter if they called snow days-but they will call off school, if it is over 3 ft or more of snow.

Starting at noon all classes are cancelled here and they're cancelled tomorrow as well. Too bad I had an 8:30am and a 9:30am class

As I was walking to class I noticed all of the cars had a thin layer of ice on them. I felt bad for the guy who was trying to use his fingernails to scrape it off his windshield :rotfl:

I had an hour between Job 1 and Job 2 yesterday and made sure I got to the grocery store to get things we needed(no milk, bread or eggs on the list;)) before the masses go crazy today.

Marsha

Oh, but did you get TOILET PAPER???? ;) If not, you'd better be heading to Costco today, there's a 24 roll minimum around here for possible storms. :rotfl2:

Stocking up on TP for storms is a new one on me...

They're predicting 3-6" of snow with possible mixed stuff in there. I hate "mixed stuff". It's nasty and if it's mixed with the snow, ruins the snow for making SNOW CREAM! YUM.

I still have to get out and work. I just drive slow and laugh at the other idiots who drive like it's dry out. My main philosophy: "If you don't like my speed of travel in the snow, there's a whole 'nuther lane. But don't get offended if I'm LMBO when you're hugging a tree the hard way". :thumbsup2

they canceled school here for tomorrow too...

We are in OK. They canceled school on wednesday for thursday, and its a good thing they did! They also canceled school today for friday.

It's been terrible here. There's so much ice, and we're supposed to get snow tomorrow, Power is out almost everywhere (luckily not at our house).

The ice has been a BIG deal here. I'm originally from maine, so it doesn't bother me that much, but when your city doesn't even own a plow or a salt truck, it gets kind of scary.

They have not call school here yet. I expect a half day and school will get out early. After care will be shut down to. We already panic and would not surprise me if do close school.

We if mention snow here we close.

Near Gatlinburg - schools here cancelled for tomorrow - the problem with the snow in our area is the ice and mountainous roads. We usually haven't had many cold days prior to the snow - and the snow we get thaws some during the day, then freezes again overnight.

Interesting...what part of WI are you in? We are in Hudson (Wi), just east of St. Paul MN and we have only had 4 snow days in 3 years ---3 of those were actually due to extreme cold (wind chills of 50 below) and one was for white out conditions..not actual "snow" accumulation. We had a day before Christmas that we got 7 inches overnight and didn't close or even delay. I don't think we've even had a weather delay since we've lived here (2007).

Must be a regional thing within the state. Most districts around here rarely close for weather.

To all of you who are getting hit with nasty weather right now...stay safe and warm!

here in the u.k they close our school every time it snows enough for it to settle on the roads -----5 days missed this term ----yet tell them you want to take titch out of school to go to disney and they tell you that you are a bad parent and harming education ----when i was a kid we went regardless of weather and our school never shut in all my years of schooling . elf an safety rules these days --risk is not allowed

I would love it if we knew ahead of time that school was going to be canceled. Here (NW OH) they wait until the absolute last second to cancel so we already have the kids up and dressed and ready to walk out the door before we see the kids' school on the scroll.

Good luck, I hope that things are not as bad as they are predicting.

My kids would love to live where you are. In NYC, public schools never close! It has to be 12 feet or more before the schools close here.

They closed one day last year! I think it was March 1st. :woohoo:

This school year (I work in SE Louisiana), we've had a half day off for a tropical storm, a delay for street flooding, and a delay for "the potential of black ice." (As in, it was cold. :lmao:)

And...we're off the day after the Super Bowl!!!:woohoo:

Yea, I am in Jonesborough... The issues we have are not just because of the snow or the ice, it's because of the mountain roads. Add in the fact that we simply don't have the crews to handle the mess and you end up in a very bad place. Last year they had to close I26 due to a really bad night of ice. Not that it mattered to me since the main road I have to take to get anywhere was also closed by TDOT and the local police.

I know they have already initiated early dismissal and school closings in some NE TN and Virginia areas. By tomorrow morning I am sure there will be more. Snow is supposed to start about 3ish and pick up as the night goes on. Saturday will be nasty with a mix of snow and ice. I think they are calling for 6-9 inches of snow.

I need to run some errands in the morning that I was going to do this weekend. I doubt I will be getting anywhere before Monday, even if the snow does stop by Saturday night. Since I live out past the main part of town we usually have to wait a day AFTER the end of the snow to get plowed and salted (well, graveled... I don't think we are even important enough for the real thing!).

Just be safe everyone!

Ok VA is checking in
They haven't closed schools yet but we are expecting 10 - 17" of snow Friday night and Saturday. Yeah 7" gap there to make sure they hit it correctly.
I actually have to go to the grocery store tomorrow morning. Every other Friday is my shopping day. I hope they have milk and bread and ice cream and cookies LOL
