~~ They're leaving the nest, sew it's time for a trip - or two - or three...~~ D~'s bag ~9/22 ~~

I wish I had enough leftovers for all of us - I didn't. Oh well.

Your day is super crazy!!! I sure hope it all worked out.
I can't decide if it was less or more crazy than i thought. I was on my way home to get the girls soccer and s's bball stuff, when i get an email from the soccer coach that practice is moved from 4:45 to 6pm. Called the school to have girls stay for girl scouts. Picked them up, they came home we had to get ready to be at 2 places at once. DH came home on a work call- he took S to BBall when I dropped D at soccer.
DH was a little hard on S for being a little out of it in the bball game. She has fun, but doesn't go after the ball the way she does when he practices with her. S has been fighting a bug all week- she have a fever monday afternoon and wasn't feeling great. He started in on maybe he won't come to her games if she doesn't really want to give it her all. Her team is too big it is 11 girls, and in bball you only play 5 at a time. SO DH was annoyed that she played less than half the game. The team they played had 7 ( then 8 since one girl came in the 4th quarter of the game).

I went up to work... Which was fine. Until I bent another needle. Yah - silly me... When I bent my needle the week before last, I forgot to get more. So, yesterday, I went through every single needle I had - including taking the needle out of Mr. R to use in Patience... No luck - she wouldn't make a single stitch. So, I did what I could of the bag yesterday on Mr. R... When I went to town, I purchased 3 different packs of needles... 2 regular and 1 titanium... Brought them home and tried them out last night. She will make a stitch on single layers of fabric/batting... but doubling or more of the batting and she won't make a stitch at all. :( This is a BIG DEAL, because I frequently have to go through 4, 6 and 8 layers of batting when I make a bag - and if she won't make a stitch, then I am in trouble. So, much of today will be trying to figure out the issue. :( I know it's a needle - I just know it. I ordered some needles last night online, from my vintage sewing parts girl - in the hopes that they are better quality than what I am getting in town. Praying it works.

So, once I was done with what work I could do yesterday... Gus came over and we had a chat (Alli was home from school with her mono stuff - yes, that's still going on)... He leaves for college in a month and he just wanted to talk to us about his plans. It was nice chatting with him - it's going to be a rough year for him and Allison - but they are going to try to make it work.

Then we left to pick up V from school and we all went to get our glasses ordered. V's were in stock... Allison's frames were in stock, but not her lenses, and my lenses were in stock, but not my frames. So, V got her new glasses last night, but the rest of us have to wait. Ours should be ready in a week. I decided to go with the brown/tortoise ones this time. It took them a while to get our insurance figured out... I think they had their setting wrong, because our glasses were all double the cost that they should have been. I called Josh and I think the girl at the dest overheard our conversation, because when I hung up - she said "let me check one thing with your insurance" - she clicked a button and everything was right. So, I think she had us under "standard" coverage and not "high" coverage. So, V's glasses ended up being $43 and Alli's ended up being $37... Mine should be the same as V's - since our frames are the same price, but I couldn't pay for mine yet, because my frames weren't there.

We all wandered around the mall for a while while we waited for V's glasses.

I hope the needles you ordered work great. That has to be so annoying.

I have always ordered my glasses and had to wait over a week for them.

Ahh I'm getting behind! Chipotle is a love of mine and luckily they are not close by. I had to start a strict diet again to try and get my thyroid and gluten intolerance under control. I keep hearing about your work outs wishing I could be out running but thus I am still wearing the worlds ugliest boot:( hopefully 2 more weeks! I hope your sewing machine gets fixed! I still haven't even tried to sew yet but I will! Lol:) I should probably wait until the boot comes off! Yeah for new glasses, I'm way past due! Hope you have a great weekend and get everything you want accomplished...

Well I can sympathize on the sewing machine issues!I was working on a bag for a friend and was having terrible issues, till I noticed I had the machine threaded wrong! That's the problem with "collecting machines, they are all threaded a little differently!

I hope the new needles work for you! I have got to decide on the theme for my bag, I'm having a hard time deciding, but I'll come up with something soon

I'm so sorry to hear about the sewing machine trouble. I hope you figure it out without too much frustration

I'm doing ok, thanks The hardest time now is when I'm going to bed.

From Saturday to Sunday I'm going to a town a short train ride from Oslo on a conference. So today I'm packing the things I need to have with me. I need to get up at 05.45am tomorrow to go to the airport.

Thanks Lillian... So far it's not going well with my machine.

I know... I hope it gets better soon.

Have fun!!! That sounds like a wonderful little trip!

This is GREAT!! I am so glad your feeling better before your trip!!!
I was still trying to figure out who was the mass murder was...
Just as long as i can take some wonderful pictures, and hang out with my crazies i will be more then happy.
I'm driving with bradey on the 4 wheeler.. you know my driving.
we have to keep this one in mind. a nice relaxing vaca? what's that?!?! Oh oh does it come with a hottie pool boy?!?!
DEATH VALLEY!!! old ghost towns..
It's ok I will save you from any spooky things. Other then this i don't gamble!! If im going to give my money away i might as well give it to a charity who needs it.
Like to said to Suzi we were still figuring each other out.. Like the clue game.. Which one of us was the killer... Thankfully none and we bonded the best out there!
I would love to see some other things besides the lice lady...
If we are staying at your house--- i call Moose and Cooper!!!!
I have to agree 100% on this. coffee and lobster, reggae, on the island.
we didn't have any fun quotes in Chicago.. just you heckling the homeless...
there's more in Florida??! WHAT?

It was the Lice Lady... She is totally gone - BTW... Saw the billboards like crazy while you all were here, and then she disappeared. Maybe she knew you were coming? LOL

Oooh... A hottie pool boy? That would be nice... ::yes::

I agree - I don't gamble either.

You can have Moose and Cooper - no problem. :thumbsup2 MM isn't the best cuddler...

The island is calling... :woohoo:

Hey now... I didn't know he was homeless... ::yes::

No, the only thing in FL is Disney... It's true, I've seen it. ::yes::

SOunds like your day went a little better than you'd thought.

HOpefully dd is feeling better soon, so she can play like she practices.

I hope so too... I am a bit frustrated with my machine right now. :scratchin

Me too... This is the first time we have ever gotten a pair in an hour. It was nice, but I am kind of excited to get mine.

D! I don't know how you're already on page 19, but I'm here!!!

Hi Casey!!! So excited to have you here! Welcome!

We are at 47 days by the way.
And 208 for WDW!!!

:woohoo: I am soooo excited - for both!

Ahh I'm getting behind! Chipotle is a love of mine and luckily they are not close by. I had to start a strict diet again to try and get my thyroid and gluten intolerance under control. Chipotle is really the only restaurant I can eat at that's slightly "fast food"... Since all of their food is organic and hormone free. I eat there all of the time with out any guilt.

Sorry you are still in that boot - I sure hope it comes off soon. It's gotta be so frustrating!

Still working on my machine... I gave up on it yesterday. Sigh.

You too! Thank you!

Oh no!!! At least it was an easy fix.

Yah - the needles I had didn't work... I gave up very quickly - I was just getting annoyed.

*******************************************************************************

So, I worked out yesterday... Did level 3 of the 30 Day Shred... I also did a bit of lifting for my shoulders.

Then I went upstairs with my fingers crossed... But my machine refused to make a stitch. :( I didn't keep trying, because I was really getting upset about it. So, I worked for about an hour on things I didn't need my machine for... Like cutting out and prepping my next bag. So, at least I was able to get something done.

I laid outside for a little while - but I had the worst headache, and being in the sun just made it worse. So, I came in and got ready to go to town.

I picked up A & V from school, dropped A off at work, then V and I went to BFF's house. On the way there, I kept bumping the back of my arm on the seat of my car - which I guess I do all the time with the motions of driving... but it was super tender, like I was bruised. So, I felt it and I have this weird long bump under there - it's deep and it runs the whole width of the back of my arm... It's painful like it's bruised, but there is no bruise there. I don't remember hitting it on anything either. Both DH and BFF think I tore a muscle, because that's what it feels like... but you'd think if it was that - It would hurt all of the time? This doesn't hurt at all unless I touch it. :scratchin I guess I'll watch it and see what it does.

The real reason for the trip to that side of town, was to stop at JoAnn's to pick up sewing machine needles. I was talking to BFF yesterday, and she seems to think that Walmart sells sub-par items to keep the costs down... She talked me into driving all the way to JoAnn's for needles. I was too annoyed to try them out in my machine last night. I will do it sometime today. Thinking about it though... At Walmart, my needles are $1.98, and at JoAnns the same amount/brand are $3.99... Same exact thing - different packaging. :scratchin So, let's all cross our fingers that this is the reason.

Gus picked Allison up from work last night, then they hung out here afterwards.

I went to bed early - I was so tired. My headache had finally gone away though - so that was nice. ::yes::

Today...

I am spending the whole day (or most of it) with V... She is taking me to a place called... Crap, can't remember. It's a huge rock on top of a huge hill, basically a lookout and scenic place. She discovered it last week and wants to show me. So, we are going up there this morning. From there, we are going to the little free zoo... She has some extra credit she can earn there, and we thought it would be fun to go. ::yes:: So, I am looking forward to today, it should be a lot of fun!

Gus is picking Allison up from work again and they are hanging out.

Otherwise - the rest of our day should be pretty uneventful. As long as I don't get lost going to/from the zoo. :scratchin

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend! Prayers and good thoughts to all of you! :grouphug:

I agree with your best friend Walmart sells a different quality from Joanns which sells a different quality from a sewing store. Ask Nini about the Walmart thread.

Sounds like fun with V.

Today I have a busy day with changing lights in my basement. I also have to run and get batteries for my Mouse on my big Mac.

I also have to get some sewing in because I am testing a skirt.

The cruise is 7 nights and we are going with my parents and my sister and her Husband. It should be fun. I also found a cruise We might try to go on next August because it is through an autism agency and they provide relief for parents.

First things first though I have to get G and mines trip to Nashville in July sorted out. I am working on a name for my pre-trip report.

Hopefully you are not getting the rain we are suppose to get the next "2" days. Although with my boot on, it really doesn't matter but DD is suppose to have a soccer game today and they already had to cancel last weeks:( I miss having an actual sewing store close by, the only thing within an hour to us is Walmart and Hobby Lobby. I normally refuse to head into Walmart, too many clientele from DH Sheriffs position. I was able to get our road trip to Vegas report started yesterday:) Good luck today!

You're coming to NASHVILLE??? You know you have to send me a pm, right?

I agree about Walmart's thread and needles. One of my friends works in the craft department at the one I work at. She once told me to never buy thread or needles from Walmart. She doesn't think much of the fabric either. She sews a lot and had a lot of problems with the thread and needles. I tend to buy mine at JoAnne's which is closer to me than Walmart.
I hope your arm gets better and whatever it is isn't serious.
The hike with V. sounds like fun. Tomorrow my daughter and I are going to the National Park by us. It goes from Akron to Cleveland along the old Erie canal. We like hiking the trails along the canal and river. Her husband has to work to finish getting ready for inventory on monday.
Have a good weekend.
Liz

I've been a silent lurker, but I guess I will join in. I love your reports and can't wait to hear more about these trips. Also you make me want to learn how to sew better. I've mastered basic pillows...and nothing else haha. Maybe I'll finally ask my mom to teach me more :)

That puppy is too darn cute!

I think its great that you have met so many nice people on the Dis and that you have become best friends with them..I have read about your other birthday trips, and they sound like yall have had a wonderful time, I am sure this one will be just as wonderful..I hope you and V enjoy your day together..I love to hike and I love the zoo, so a perfect combo in my opinion.

Just caught up on your whole PTR. Working basically 14 hours a day, 5 days a week hasn't left much time for the Dis. But that's about to change and I need to write my TR from the last trip.
I am so excited for you guys to get Cooper. He's adorable. My Phoebe was a cuddler as a puppy and still is to this day and I love it!
I can't wait to hear more of Allison's plans for her trip. It's so special that you are doing that with both girls.

Well, JoAnn's quality was definitely better - but still lacking. It's so frustrating, because I have never had issues with this machine - ever - until now.

I hope you had a great day with all of your errands and sewing.

Yay!!! That is going to be such a fun cruise! And the other cruise sounds great too! And your Nashville trip sounds fabulous, as well. :lovestruc

Looking forward to your new PTR!

We did not get any rain yesterday until almost dark... But it's supposed to be rainy/chilly for the next several days.

Yay for starting your road trip to Vegas report yesterday, I did stop by... I better go double check that I commented??? LOL I think I did.

You're coming to NASHVILLE??? You know you have to send me a pm, right?

Oopsi lives there too... :scratchin

This is good to know... I was almost to the point of tears again the other day. I did have better luck with JoAnn's needles - but it wasn't great. I"ve found 2 now to get me through until my order comes in, and hopefully those are better. If so, I'll be ordering all of my needles online from now on.

NOt sure what's going on with my arm... The lump is still there, but it doesn't bother me at all unless I touch it - so I don't touch it. LOL

We had a great time yesterday, I'll be posting lots of photos below.

Sounds like you had a fun day planned yesterday too - I hope it was a great time!

You too!! Thanks Liz!

Hope you have a fun day with v.

Thanks!!! We had a great time! Photos below.

Hi there!!! Welcome!!! I am so happy to have your here and following along!

I am very excited for all of these trips! It's going to be a blast!

Everyone who sews must start somewhere - and basic pillows is a great place to start!!! That's great that your mom sews, so she can help you out. It's been such a great fulfilling hobby/turned business for me - I am so glad I finally learned how to sew when I did. :)

Thanks for following along, I hope you'll continue to do so. :lovestruc

Yes, I have formed so many great friendships here - some of my bestest friends I met on The Dis.

We have had some great birthday trips - haven't we? It's been great fun getting to know these girls and their families... I am very excited to meet some of Suzi's family that I've heard so much about on this trip... Her Gram and her DH... Also her parents... And I am really looking forward to seeing Bradey again - it's been almost 2 years since I've seen him, and I am sure he's grown.

Thank you - V and I did have a great day together yesterday, it was so fun spending time with her alone. I need to make a point of being better about doing that with both girls. I have lots of pictures to post below... :lovestruc

I am there for a convention but am coming in early. Once I get things firmed up I will let you know the details.

:woohoo:

WOW!!! Thanks for taking the time to catch up!! I really appreciate it! I am looking forward to hearing more about your TR from the last trip - please let me know when you start it.

I am very excited to get Cooper... 2 more weeks!!!! Cannot WAIT!!!!

I working very hard on Allison's trip... Well, financially... LOL HOpefully I will have more updates with that trip soon.

**************************************************************************************

This will be a super long udpate... My apologies in advance.

V and I had a great day yesterday...

We started off with a breakfast picnic at Chimney Rock... It's just this huge set of rocks out in the middle of a farm field (technically, it's state property) - very near our house, which I didn't even know existed... It was a cool little hike and climb and the view was amazing! (Also note... V's new glasses... So cute on her!)

And my favorite picture of V and I from yesterday...

Snapchat--6796070449182146694.jpg

After our picnic and breakfast... We went to Target... I needed cash for the zoo, and we felt the need for Starbucks... Shame on me...

Snapchat-370172182010672073.jpg

Then we drove to the zoo... Had I been paying attention - rather than relying on Google Maps... I wouldn't have taken the wrong exit... So, we got the "grand tour" of St. Paul yesterday. Sigh. Eventually we made it to the zoo - about an hour later than I wanted to, so parking was a mess... but we finally found a spot about a mile from the entrance.

Sadly - it's still early in the year, so not many animals were out yet...

We did get to see a polar bear - which was the exhibit V needed to see for her school project... You can't really see the polar bear in the background of this photo - but he's there...

Snapchat--5945491332409691301.jpg

The only other animals we were able to see were the pengins, some sea horses and the birds in the bird area... In the bird area though is a sloth - and he is sooooo cute!!!! You can see him in the background of this photo...

Snapchat-2885049269726671854.jpg

When we were done at the zoo, V and I decided to text Gus to see if he wanted to take a break and meet us for lunch - since we were in his area. He said he would - but he was knee deep in putting his camaro back together, so it would be an hour or so.

V and I decided to kill some time at another bigger Target store in that area... We wandered aimlessly in each department... And eventually we wound up at Starbucks (AGAIN!!! Sigh)... That place is going to be the death of me, I swear. Thankfully - when I order there, I do the absolute minimum of "junk" in my drink... So, that consoles me a little bit. ::yes::

Finally - Gus called, and he was ready... We decided to meet at Subway... Which again - is not somewhere I normally eat. I ordered a 6" and I eat about half the bread and gut the rest.

V and I had to leave to go pick Allison up from work - Gus decided to tag along... So we all went to our Target store... Gus had to get a few things to wrap Allison's birthday gifts - which he planned to give her last night. V, Gus and I shopped while we waited for Alli to get done. Allison rode home with Gus and V and I rode home together.

Boy this is getting to be long... Sorry about that. ::yes::

Once we got home, Gus gave Allison all of her birthday gifts... And then we all hung out.

Josh was busy cleaning up the yard... And he was burning grass... I was super annoyed by this, because when we got home, our house was FULL of smoke. So, it was hard to breathe in here... Of most worry to me, is my sewing room smelled of smoke - which means all of my fabric was exposed to smoke... Grrrr... So, I closed all of the windows in the house (which should have been done before he started burning)... Opened the window in my sewing room and put a fan in there... I think it's OK - because it's not smokey smelling in here at all today. But it was super annoying!

I happened to walk into the livingroom, and this was the scene on the couch... LOL MM really loves Gus - perhaps more than any other human...

20150418_164806.jpg

The kids and I decided that we weren't in the mood for the spaghetti I was planning to make... We were hungry for pizza... I told them to take my car to town to get it... About 5 min after they left, they called me, they were stuck on the side of the road - my car started to make a horrible squeeling sound, and they were afraid one of my shocks/springs busted. So, I got in the truck and went to rescue them. Thankfully Gus is a car guy - so when I pulled up, he was on the side of the road, under my car - trying to find the problem to fix it. We must have sat out there for an hour... Eventually we determined is was the back drivers side wheel making the noise - so Gus inspected that one even further, and he couldn't see anything that would be causing that noise - my shocks and springs looked fine. It took us a while - but we figured out that the noise was coming from the brakes... I had done a lot of dirt road driving yesterday, so when Gus had my car jacked up - every time he would spin the tire, it would make that noise and dust/dirt would fall out of my hubcap/tire area... So, I was pretty sure a rock from the dirt road had lodged itself between my brake pad and rotor... Which is possible, but not likely - according to Gus. We were a little over a mile from home, so we decided to go slow and drive my car home. The kids followed me in Josh's pickup. We were almost home - wheel squeeling the whole way... I was passing a tractor/plow (so wide load) and the squeeling got super duper loud, and just like that - it stopped. The rest of the way home, it drove normally - no problems. I think that the rotating of the wheel, just ground up the rock and now it's gone. Long story short... I think my car is fine now. Phew. Just glad the Gus is super good with cars... We really needed his expertise yesterday. :thumbsup2

Anyways... Then the kids took Gus' car to get pizza...

While they were gone - I went up to my sewing room to try out the needles from JoAnn's... They were better than the Walmart ones... I didn't go through all of them, but I did find 2 that were straight and useable... Which should get me through until my online order comes in - hopefully those are much better quality. ::yes::

I was a LATE dinner night.

After pizza - we watched, um... Fast and Furious - Tokyo Drift? I think that's what it was called? It was a good movie. Now we have the other 6 to watch.

Josh and I went to bed, the kids all stayed up and watched another movie or two.

Sorry for the long boring life update this morning... At least there were pictures. LOL

I did take one picture of myself yesterday... A bathroom selfie at Target... Since I haven't done a recent one lately... No change really. These are the same shorts I wore in Disney last August - they pretty much fit me exactly the same - maybe a little less muffin-toppy? I really need to get rid of the Starbucks in my life - and I am certian that alone would allow me to progress further... But I also tell myself that I must live and enjoy life... So, it's a hard thing to balance.

20150418_125224.jpg

Today... I will be working in my sewing room... I know - it's Sunday... but I need to finish up last week's order, that I wasn't able to work on, on Friday. It shouldn't take me long.

I will likely be lazy the rest of the day.

I hope you all have a wonderful Sunday! Prayers and good thoughts go out to all of you! :grouphug:

I usually go to Target at least once a week and I am soooooo glad we don't have a Starbucks in ours! I can not resist! Made the mistake of going in this morning, wow that Lily Pullitzer stuff was flying off the shelfs! Worse than Black Friday. There wasn't a single item left, crazy!

I'm so glad my 15-91 isn't as finicky as Patience, I can use pretty much any brand of needle!

I am trying to avoid Target and Starbucks but unfortunately had fast food 2 days in a row which is a no no. Back on track big time tomorrow.

I need a day to sew. I am testing a skirt pattern and while it isn't difficult it is taking me forever. The good thing is it will be the first outfit done for our August trip.

C has a dance show today I wanted to go Prom Dress Shopping with her as she is graduating for the first time ever in June. She never had a graduation ceremony for kindergarten or anything so I want to spoil her a bit.

I am seriously trying to come up with a name for a PTR.

Hey there Miss D - was 10 pgs behind and now all caught up - yay for getting good airfare to Maine! Yay for girl's trip! Yay for cute, adorable Cooper pics (he is way beyond squishy cute); yay for new glasses!

I have been so busy between everyday work and trying to get Mom's Estate squared away; it seems it is so complicated because they didn't have a Will, they had a Living Trust, which doesn't have to go through Probate but is a big pain otherwise; there are no hard rules and each bank gives me a different answer; it is really tiring.

Hope your stomach issues have resolved completely; keep an eye on your arm, you need to take it easy on arm work. BTW, youngest son has been interested more and more in diet, especially the differences in Paleo and Primal; he analyzes everything; I showed him some of your progress pics and he was mighty impressed; we discussed how eating well is a life mission to keep your body running well and you have helped tremendously in this regard; don't be so hard on yourself, I can understand your mental issues after Whole 30, it is so strict that somehow after you finish you feel like you are eating wrong, which you aren't, Tyler went through some of this after his Whole 30; just keep eating healthy and a Starbucks every now and then isn't "bad"; I think we need to quit labeling "bad" and "cheats" when we have a treat now and then.

Looks like a wonderful time with V; its good to have a mother daughter day like that; V's glasses are too cute.

It is really telling and really wonderful that Gus loves to spend so much time with all of you; I am really hoping he and Allison can make it work next school year. It won't be easy but they seem to be aware of it and are willing to try.

I feel your pain in packing and planning layers for your Nov and Jan Dis trips; we are doing another Alaska cruise in June and talk about layers and the craziness of Alaska weather; you never know what you are going to get from day to day; and we have to pay for our luggage as Southwest doesn't fly to where we are going; stinking baggage fees; I can't wait to see what all you cook up for your outfits; you have great style especially for Disney!

Good luck with your sewing and your needle issues - have a wonderful week!

Glad to be all caught up!

Hugs and prayers - Carol

I hope you got your sewing machine working again.
I'm sorry to hear about your arm. I hope it feels better today.
Sounds like you had a nice trip to the zoo.

I had a nice, but exhausting trip. It was nice to learn new things and exchange experiences with others that have cerebral palsy.
