~~ They're leaving the nest, sew it's time for a trip - or two - or three...~~ D~'s bag ~9/22 ~~

I rarely have the overwhelming urge to clean and organize, but when I do, it hits HARD! LOL I am working on the KonMari method right now...I finally have my closet and dresser cleaned out, sorted, folded, and organized and I love it. It's wonderful! I'm working up the energy and courage to tackle the rest of the house. But so far I've been able to maintain everything I've done so far, and that's a huge accomplishment for me!

I'm glad your knee and your tooth are feeling better.

Have a great day!

So great that your girls get that driving experience. Around here it's just so congested and having the road to ourselves just doesn't happen, so it's much scarier for me to let Nicolas get behind the wheel. My husband has been taking him out at least once every weekend to get some driving practice in and that's generally a time early in the morning when traffic is much lighter and he tries to expose him to a few different road scenarios. I honestly haven't spent as much time in the car with him but perhaps I'll start letting him drive to/from school at least once a week with me as well. While he is a pretty good driver, I just worry about having him drive with ALL of us in the car. It seems almost every other day I hear of some horrifying accident on the highways all within about a 20 mile radius of our house. It's just scary. He has until the end of October to get in his 60 hours of driving and I'm sure it's probably already about 1/3rd of the way there though. It's funny to thing about the fact that next time we go to Walt Disney World he will probably be a fully licensed driver and since we always DRIVE to Florida he could get some experience there as well.

Good for you for getting that motivation to get the closet cleaned up. I need to do that myself...and not just my closet but so many areas of our house need decluttering and cleaning. I usually let it build until (sadly) I HAVE to clean something and that usually starts because I'm looking for an item that I can't find and have to spend hours going through the clutter! Very sad.

Crossing my finger that your tooth is ok now so you don't have to do more dental work on it

I can't believe you have packed your winter clothes already. Here it feels like spring, but I don't believe it's spring here yet.

Crossing my fingers that your heavy lifting goes well with your knee.

If I didn't know better I would say it's time to get the tires on the car changed to summer tires. But I know we can still get snow here so I won't get the tires changed yet.
I assume my new car have winter tires on when I get it. That means I have 2 cars that needs to get their tires changed. Luckily Ulf will change all tires for me :lovestruc

Yay for closet organization!!! That is SO my kind of fun!

I really think I am going to take another tip from you, and start doing my WATP on the days I do not do ReFit. I just feel like I am doing ReFit three times a week, and my body is not responding. Maybe adding in a little something else will help. I am so ready to get my body into shape for summer...and two trips to Disney!!!

That's great you were able to organize your closet! Even though cleaning a big area can be annoying, it always feels good afterwards when its done.::yes::

Enjoy the rest of your day. I hope the weather is getting nicer again there, here in NY it is in the 60s, which makes me very happy!:goodvibes

I've been on Spring Break (yay for being a teacher!) since last week and really did lots of organizing/purging closets and drawers this week!!! I took six shopping bags and a box of books and DVDs to donate, and filled up three garbage bags of clothes, too. Really?! I couldn't believe we had that much to get rid of, but it definitely felt good!

I'm a couple days behind with commenting. Exciting you were able to add a day on to your trip with V! Hopefully you're able to find an airfare deal soon, too. The prices I've seen in this thread make me want to cry!! Flights from Chicago to Orlando for our December trip are $800 and up every time I look. I finally bit the bullet and ordered our tix from Expedia for half the cost. Still very painful!

So nice that you were able to celebrate your Dad's birthday with the rest of your family, and I love the smiles on your face and your brother's in your selfie :) Very sweet.

You are so right about the driving practice, we had our son wait until he was 17 to get his license so Andi will probably practice for another 6 months and up here in the tundra, we will make sure she gets the ice/snow practice ugh! I drive for my work so the ice and snow are a common occurrence for sure. We also live out in the country and driving out here really does give the kids good practice for sure. Andi and I leave on Sunday for our first of three Disney trips this year yippee! I am so excited to just feel warmth and sun more then anything! We will be at CBR for the first time I hope we like it, I know it is really big.

I love to organize. It's a running joke at school that I have the most organized classroom. I don't know if I should take that as a compliment or be offended. I always say my next job is going to be a professional organizer.

Hahaha - me too! We need to get this house in shape for Allison's graduation open house... I've heard of the KonMari method - BFF is in the process of a MAJOR cleaning out of her house - and she has made amazing progress... I am not sure that I have the desire or the energy to go to her extreme - but I am very proud of her and definitely inspired.

WTG on your organizing and keeping it organized - that's a big portion of the battle right there! :woohoo:

Thank you - I am still hesitant to say that it's good - but so far so good. LOL Such a relief!

Thank you - same to you! :lovestruc

Which is good - I am glad your dh is getting him out there. It's difficult when you live in a densely populated area - I am sure. We don't have to go far to find areas like that, so V is able to get a wide variety of practice. He could get a lot of experience if he were to drive to FL... LOL

Yes - I agree - I have a lot of decluttering and cleaning to do... Everywhere... Except maybe our living spaces - I am pretty on top of those... Besides our one counter - I told DH the other day, I just want to unsubscribe from ALL mail - it just piles up and it's my least favorite thing to do - sort and file it... I always put it off until I can put it off no more. Which reminds me - I need to sort it soon. We have to start getting the house ready for Allison's graduation open house... Which means a few projects may get finished around here? :scratchin Like painting the one kitchen wall red - that was supposed to be painted over a year ago.... And to paint the new entry way closet.... We also plan to paint the entire living room - which means I may FINALLY get trim on my windows in there - I've been waiting on that for 8 years now... That would thrill me beyond belief!!!! I need to make a list - so we can start tackling it on the weekends.

Crossing my finger that your tooth is ok now so you don't have to do more dental work on it

Thanks - me too - I am starting to think it's OK... Going to give it a few more days before I get too excited about it.

Yup... They are still accessible, because I wear my jeans and sweatshirts most of the year... but I've pulled out all of my summer clothes so they are at the front of my closet. It's definitely spring here - but we still have the chance for snow for a few more weeks. Any snow we get will melt right away though.

Soooo excited for you that you will have your new car in a matter of weeks! :woohoo:

Yay for closet organization!!! That is SO my kind of fun!

Ha! I believe that! Your house is one of the cleanest I've ever seen - all the time! LOL

Well - as I am learning - I can't out exercise a bad diet... So adding movement is almost always a good thing - if you want the scale/size to move down - take another look at your consumption... It only took me 3 months and a full size gain to figure out that I was still eating my running calories (face palm)... So, those are my words of wisdom for the day. LOL But - I do love my WATP - it's been a staple in my life for years now, it's a good quick work out, even on my least motivational days - I can still talk myself into doing at least that - which is about 3x/week. :lmao: Keep pressing on, my friend - you are moving in the right direction! :lovestruc

That's great you were able to organize your closet! Even though cleaning a big area can be annoying, it always feels good afterwards when its done

Enjoy the rest of your day. I hope the weather is getting nicer again there, here in NY it is in the 60s, which makes me very happy!

I agree - it was getting to the point where I hated to get dressed every day, because I could never find what I wanted to wear... Now everything is really easily accessible - and it's nice. I'd really like to get it a little more organized - but I think I need to work on the rest of the house to get it ready for Allison's graduation open house first... Then I can begin to tackle the areas of the house that no one sees. :scratchin

Thanks... It's been rainy the last few days - I haven't checked today's forecast yet, but I am hoping for some sun soon! ::yes::

I've been on Spring Break (yay for being a teacher!) since last week and really did lots of organizing/purging closets and drawers this week!!! So nice that you were able to celebrate your Dad's birthday with the rest of your family, and I love the smiles on your face and your brother's in your selfie Very sweet.

That's awesome!!!! Great job! I still have a couple of bags in my room from the last clean out... I always forget to put them in my car - since our Goodwill closed, I always forget when I am going the other direction. I just need to make a special trip.

No worries - thanks for stopping by - it sounds like you are having a very productive spring break! :woohoo:

We are very excited to have an extra day - just to chill and relax. Yes, I've been stalking flights like crazy - and I am not finding much that makes me smile - for sure... I won't have enough saved for airfare for at least another month - so I am kind of hoping I don't find any good prices until then. LOL

Yes - it was fun to celebrate my Dad's birthday - I think he had a good time. :D Thanks - I don't have a lot of pictures of my brother and I alone - especially as grown ups - and I do like that one a lot! :lovestruc

I hope you enjoy the rest of your break! ::yes::

You are so right about the driving practice, we had our son wait until he was 17 to get his license so Andi will probably practice for another 6 months and up here in the tundra, we will make sure she gets the ice/snow practice ugh! Yes - Allison didn't get her license until she was 17... She was a bit bitter about it, but I didn't get mine until I was 17, and I feel like I was a more responsible driver because of it... So, I am the same way about them.

I am glad that you are able to get good practice for them - I am sorry if I got preachy yesterday - I've seen some of the girls' friends parents even go as far as to lie about how many hours their kids have gotten, so they can get their license... And it just makes me so mad. They NEED those practice hours to be safe - and then some, in my opinion. I actually enjoy teaching them to drive - and I like to think I am pretty good at it... My foster-dad taught me and he was such a good and patient teacher, I was the first one he ever taught - and he's taught many, many other kids after me - so I like to think I trained him. LOL Anyways - good for you... I am glad to hear it. And UGH - for driving up there... NOT fun!!! And definitely not fun in the winter... Kudos to you for that skill... One big hill - yah... :scratchin I remember one summer, my cousin and I went up there for a weekend trip - and his brakes went out... We spent the weekend using his E brake... Can you say terrifying??? I was happy to make it home alive that time. ::yes::

Soooo exciting that you leave this weekend!!! I'll be thinking of you as you fly over! I hope you'll check in when you get back and let us know how it went - I'd love to hear about it. If you decide to do a TR - please let me know... I am horrible about keeping up, but I do try. Have a great time!!! Enjoy every moment! :lovestruc

I love to organize. It's a running joke at school that I have the most organized classroom. I don't know if I should take that as a compliment or be offended. I always say my next job is going to be a professional organizer.

LOL - I love to be organized, but I have to be in the right mood to do it, for sure. I need to make a list this weekend of projects we need to get done before Allison's grad open house - I think I will list them by room... I wish we would have started months ago - I think it's going to take all the spare time we have to get everything done on time, and sadly - most of it falls on to Josh's shoulders, since it's projects that he's put off for a long time now. I'll help, of course... but - it's a lot of work! :scratchin

I hope you have a great weekend!

******************************************************************************************************

Well, I did my heavy lifting yesterday... I did a full lift with my full weights and I am not feeling any pain in my knee at all today. I am very hopeful that I am headed towards a full recovery - or as full of a recovery as my knees ever get anyways. ::yes::

So far, no tooth pain... I am also very hopeful for this to be over. My gums are still very sore from all of the novocaine injections - the one side of my face is still sore to the touch - like it's bruised, but not. Hopefully that goes away soon, but it's not nearly as painful as the nerve pain was from my tooth - so I'll take it any day. LOL

I worked all day in my sewing room yesterday - I was able to get a lot done and it feels good.

I tried for a full family dinner last night - and I was almost successful... Having all of us at the dinner table these days is a rare occasion. Sadly, Allison had a photo shoot last night - so she didn't make it home in time for dinner...

Then I sat on my tablet all night...

Today - I have another busy day in front of me...

I'll work out right away - as usual.

Then I will go straight upstairs to work all day.

V has an appointment - so I will be picking her up from school and she will drive there.

I see another lazy evening in my future - unless it's nice out, then I may try for a walk after dinner.

I think this weekend will be the start of our "getting ready for Allison's graduation open house"... It will be the effort to finish up a lot of projects that have gone unfinished (the story of our lives when it comes to our house) - some of them for years. Most of them involve trim and paint. ::yes:: I plan to make a list today - and hopefully we can start tackling this over the weekend.

I hope you all have a marvelous weekend! Prayers and Spring wishes to all of you! :lovestruc

D~

I'm glad you've made seemingly a full recovery from your knee injury, and your tooth as well!

I remember when my siblings and I were all in high school, I think holidays were the only time we were all under one roof at the same time lol Its tough!

Good luck on all of your home projects! I hope everything goes smoothly!

That is great to hear both your tooth and your knee have seemed to almost make a full recovery!

Ooh the projects sound fun - good luck with everything!

I'm glad to hear your knee has fully recovered.

Crossing my fingers that your gums will get well soon and that the toothache doesn't come back

Good luck on your "getting ready for Allison's graduation open house" project.

Today my new electrical wheelchair was supposed to be delivered to my house. But early today I got a phone call that there were something on the chair that wasn't mounted on it and that the people that was going to deliver the chair to me couldn't fix it themselves. So they had to deliver the chair back to NAV to get them to mount what ever they thought had to be mounted and then get the chair back from NAV so they can deliver it to me. What a mess. I have no idea when the chair will be delivered to me. I have an appointment with NAV on Monday to get the electrical wheel customized so I will ask what was wrong with the electrical wheelchair and when it will be delivered to me. For me it's really no rush since I can't really use the electrical wheelchair until I get my new car.

Glad your toothache is doing better! Mne has now been bothernig me. UGH!

I feel your pain on the family dinner time, too!!! You and I are definitely living parallel lives, my friend!

Having all of us at the dinner table these days is a rare occasion.

I can totally relate to this...it's so hard to do this...we have a hard time even for once a week.

Hope your gums don't stay sore for long!!

House projects are the best...and the worst!!! Our "to-do" list around our house seems like it always gets longer and rarely ever has anything crossed off of it!!! But I still like to keep track of where we're headed!! :)

The one thing I have NOT done a great job with over break has been getting moving. We did a 5K as a family (The Bunny Rock 5K and Easter Egg Hunt) but that was about it. This summer my goal is to use my time better during all those days off to MOVE!!!

I agree - I also hate layovers... But as long as they are short - they aren't too bad. The 4 hour layover Allison and i had at O'Hare in January sucked - I will never do that long of one again. We had an hour layover on the way home and that was actually nice - long enough to get off the plane, use the restroom and grab a quick snack. I'd do that again

I've never had a layover over about an hour and a half...until my upcoming trip to Disneyland(late this August). :( On my fight home I will also have a long layover in Chicago, 3hr 45mins!!! I'm not looking forward to it at all. On the way there I also have a layover in San Francisco, 2 hrs.

I always put it off until I can but it off no more. Which reminds me - I need to sort it soon. We have to start getting the house ready for Allison's graduation open house... Which means a few projects may get finished around here? :scratchin Like painting the one kitchen wall red - that was supposed to be painted over a year ago.... That would thrill me beyond belief!!!! I need to make a list - so we can start tackling it on the weekends.

I spent the last 2 weekends finishing the floor in the basement, and then pestered Charlie to start putting the trim on. Finally, after about 4 or 5 years, the basement is coming together. He still has some trim to finish, but what is done looks nice. I am going to start on the kitchen this weekend, removing wall paper and getting ready to paint.

Yes - Allison didn't get her license until she was 17... She was a bit bitter about it, but I didn't get mine until I was 17, and I feel like I was a more responsible driver because of it... So, I am the same way about them.

I didn't get my license until I was 18 since my foster parents would not sign for me to get it. I didn't get upset, it was just the way things were. I also had to have my own car and car insurance.

Can you say terrifying??? I was happy to make it home alive that time. ::yes::

I did not like teaching my kids to drive mainly because I don't like riding with anyone. I'm okay if I sit in the backseat, or occupy myself so I am not watching out the window. I did do it though, except for Andrew - Kate and Steven taught him, because they said I was too nervous to teach him. I got to teach Shannon though.....

We had our Agricultural Awards banquet last night, so I've been busy this week with getting ready for that. It went very well, but I'm glad its over for another year.

Shannon decided she wanted to attend graduation in Chicago in May, so I decided I'm going with her. She needs to have someone there to see her walk. I hope to see Mo while I'm there, but our trip is very short - arriving on Saturday and leaving on Monday.

Thanks - I am getting there, it's such a relief though! :lovestruc

Yes - it's crazy... I never thought it would be that way, as we eat dinner every single night as a family... but more often than not, these days, it's just Josh and I left at the table. It's quite sad actually.

Thanks - I still have to show Josh the list I made yesterday. :scratchin

That is great to hear both your tooth and your knee have seemed to almost make a full recovery!

Ooh the projects sound fun - good luck with everything!

I am so relieved - I am still afraid to say it too loudly - but I am pretty confident that both are doing well. I had some yogert last night as a bed time snack, and a week ago - it would have killed me with pain... No pain last night. :woohoo:

Hehehe... I don't know about fun? But definitely needed... I'll taken any and all finishing we can accomplish before Allison's party. ::yes::

I'm glad to hear your knee has fully recovered.

Crossing my fingers that your gums will get well soon and that the toothache doesn't come back

Good luck on your "getting ready for Allison's graduation open house" project.

Ugh... Bummer that you have to wait a little longer - it seems like you need to have a lot of patience for this process. Hopefully it all gets sorted out soon!

Glad your toothache is doing better! Mne has now been bothernig me. UGH!

I feel your pain on the family dinner time, too!!! You and I are definitely living parallel lives, my friend!

Yikes!!! All I can say is don't put it off. I am glad I didn't.

Yes - we are my friend... Our lives have changed so much in the last year... and they will change so much more in the coming years. It's a process - and one I am not sure that I am ready for?

I can totally relate to this...it's so hard to do this...we have a hard time even for once a week.

Hope your gums don't stay sore for long!!

Yes... And when I find out there's a chance - I jump on it. I already miss them - and they aren't even moved out yet. :lovestruc

Thanks - they seem to be improving... I'll just be relieved when my body is back to normal. LOL

House projects are the best...and the worst!!! Our "to-do" list around our house seems like it always gets longer and rarely ever has anything crossed off of it!!! But I still like to keep track of where we're headed!!

The one thing I have NOT done a great job with over break has been getting moving. We did a 5K as a family (The Bunny Rock 5K and Easter Egg Hunt) but that was about it. This summer my goal is to use my time better during all those days off to MOVE!!!

YES!!! I am just hoping to knock a few things off of the list before Allison's party... I have not showed Josh my list at all yet... I am a little nervous about that - as a lot of it is up to him. I am totally willing to help where ever I can - but there's only so much I know how to do. ::yes::

I am glad you did get a 5k in though... I've been a little down on myself that I had to stop running for a few weeks... But I needed that time to heal - or I'd never run. So, I am trying to be patient and I was sure to move in ways that I could... I didn't want to just sit there - even though I was injured. I am a bit proud of myself for that. You will find your motivation soon - I am sure of it. Sometimes I really just have to talk myself into it - whether I feel like it or not.

I've never had a layover over about an hour and a half...until my upcoming trip to Disneyland(late this August). On my fight home I will also have a long layover in Chicago, 3hr 45mins!!! I'm not looking forward to it at all. On the way there I also have a layover in San Francisco, 2 hrs.

Yes- that is a long lay over. Which airport will you be at? We were at O'Hare for 4 hours and it was so boring. And their toilets... :scratchin I still never really figured them out. They were the oddest thing I'd ever seen.

Just make sure you have your chargers accessoble, so you can plug in and use your device to pass the time... Or a good book - something. ::yes::

We had our Agricultural Awards banquet last night, so I've been busy this week with getting ready for that. It went very well, but I'm glad its over for another year.

Shannon decided she wanted to attend graduation in Chicago in May, so I decided I'm going with her. She needs to have someone there to see her walk. I hope to see Mo while I'm there, but our trip is very short - arriving on Saturday and leaving on Monday.

It sounds like it might have been fun? I hope so - so all of the work was worth it. ::yes::

FUN!!! I hope you are able to meet up with Mo - even for a few minutes. :lovestruc I miss that girl!

*****************************************************************************************************

Ahhh... Yesterday... Boy - it was a busy day, as usual.

I worked out right away in the morning.

Then I reworked our Disney schedule... I wanted to better organize our days off - I think I have it where I want it now? :scratchin

I worked upstairs all morning... I finished my custom order & I also finished a side project... It feels good to have my plate clean for the weekend. Whether I try to do something on the side? Or not? We'll see... It depends on what Josh thinks of my list. LOL

Then I ran to town, hit Target... And then picked V up... We went to her appointment... Stopped at another Target (story of my life - it seems... LOL)... And came home.

I made tacos for dinner - we haven't had those in a long time.

Today - I am not sure on the plans? I know it's a 2 cup of coffee day for me. ::yes:: I have been religious about journaling my food intake in MFP - and I am really starting to see good progress (same user name there as here, if any of you want to friend me to see how I eat?). This motivates me so much! My jeans are no longer tight on me, and it feels great! The truth is - in the end - a person cannot out exercise a bad diet... And even though I wasn't doing it on purpose - it's still a fact - no matter how clean I eat, a calorie is still a calorie and it matters, sadly. I try for between 1600-1700 calories per day... I also try for over 100 grams of protein... And I try for between 50 - 100 carbs, usually I am right at 99. LOL Carbs are HARD, because they are hidden in everything. :scratchin It seems to be working and there seems to be good progress right now... After months of maintaining and eventually gaining - it feels great to be moving in the right direction again. Can you believe that I have been at this for 4 years now?!?! This blows my mind, like you wouldn't believe. Four years ago - I never could have imagined that I would still be working towards my healthier lifestyle now... And I never would have imagined I would have that stamina, commitment or dedication... But once I changed my outlook from a "race mentality" - you know the one - I must lose x lbs by x date... to a "slow down and get it right, take as much time as I need to"... it became a process and a genuine love for myself and what my body was able to do. :lovestruc It got to the point where it didn't matter how long it took - just as long as I was continuing to try and better myself - which was a HUGE issue for my brain while I was stalled out - I like to think I've worked through it... But in the end - progress is still a huge motivator to me, and when there is no progress it's a very debilitating thing... It makes it super hard to keep working so hard with no results. ::yes:: One day soon - I will actually share how much I gained back and the full mini-story on that... because - as some of you saw, I was quite raw with my struggle against my feelings of defeat and frustration - it was a giant puzzle, but once I sat down and really re-figured, everything made sense again. I am proud of myself for not giving up. :thumbsup2 That is the most important part... Once you give up, it's game-over. There is no game-over here.

Anyways... Today... Not a clue? Everyone is still sleeping. I do plan to take Allison into the urgent care walk in clinic - she is having some throat swelling and pain... The school nurse suggested we take her in yesterday - but there wasn't anything taking appointments. The nurse at the clinic suggested we do the walk in clinic this morning. So, I think that's the plan?

I also plan to show Josh my list... Hopefully he will think that some of it can be done? :scratchin Which will probably mean a trip to Home Depot or the like to get paint and trim... It will be INSANE on a Saturday - I am sure, and not a fun trip at all. If we even go?

If we decide not to do any of the above, I may try to go upstairs and get another side project started? I will be productive this weekend - even if it's only a little bit. ::yes::

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend! :lovestruc

I love V's prom dress, she looks gorgeous:yay:! I am glad to hear the driver training is going well, our school offered Drivers Education when my daughter was learning and she had an excellent instructor so we lucked out there.

I am happy to hear your knee & tooth are better:flower:And that you are back on track with your healthy lifestyle!

My Sister is on the mend, thank you for asking. I enjoyed reading about your trip to your Dads and seeing pictures of your Foster Family.

Have a great weekend,
Monica

It must be nice having this weeks custom order finished and a side project as well. Now you can enjoy the weekend without have to think about the custom order that is not finished :)

You are doing a great job with your food and exercise. It really is a life long project that never ends.

I hope Allison gets better soon.

This process with a new car has now been taking 2 years. So yes you really have to be patience when dealing with the welfare system. But I'm so glad that we have it and that I have the right to get the help I need even if I have to fight to get that right.
