~~ They're leaving the nest, sew it's time for a trip - or two - or three...~~ D~'s bag ~9/22 ~~

Along with that idea... We've decided to move the China hutch into the dining room, where it's supposed to be. That does make the dining room very small - but as I am coming to realize - family dinners are few and far between these days, so we don't really use the full function of our dining/kitchen area like we used to... So, it's worth giving this a try. Which means my mantel is coming down... It pains me to say that - because I love it. It will go up again - but we are not sure where yet? We have some ideas.
I can't wait to see where you you move your mantle. It seems like you just put it up.

I also plan to bring down one of the long dressers from our bedroom, and we will convert that into a media console... We've been making due since Christmas until we found something we liked - and of course, Pinterest gave me the idea of using one of our dressers - I guess it's a "thing" now? So, we will be joining the ranks on that

I'm sure it will look great!

How do you store your extra fabric in your sewing room to reorganize my basement and the file cabinet that i'm using is starting to drive me crazy.

Have you been busy! Love the new color in the living room. It's pulling together nicely.

Love cleaning out and re-organizing. Of course me cleaning out now means take it out and pack it into boxes, plus donating a ton of stuff. The first thing that I donated was my ski pants and jacket.

Glad Allison and you are doing better.

Strangely, we got snow here. It's the most snow we got all winter, and it's April. Go figure! I am hoping it will all be gone by tomorrow. Don't get me wrong it's absolutely beautiful, but I am a hot weather type of girl. I was just making arrangements on getting the pool ready to open. Guess I better wait on that one.

Have a fabulous day!

It's looking great!! I really do love it. Once you have the second coat of paint up, the trim finished, and all the curtains up and furniture moved back in I think the color will be great, and if you don't love it all of the furniture, curtains, etc., will draw your attention away from the walls. I think you'll be fine. :-)

Exciting that you're buying Allison's airline ticket! I still need to get our airline tickets out to visit my husband's family this summer....

Your dogs are so cute.

Hopefully all of this moving and rearranging will make our spaces a bit more functional?
The baseboards look great. Are you planning to move that huge curio cabinet back into the living room?

Along with that - we are working on V's Disney trip... This is our month to make ADRs... As usual - I will wait until the beginning of next month to share our ADRs, just so my dates aren't too transparent. At that time, I will also share our plans. I am very excited for this trip to happen!
Our ADR day for our Oct trip was yesterday but I didn't make any dining reservations. We have our big family trip in June and I was making fastpasses for that trip last night. So my head is wrapped up in June. ;) In fact, I haven't linked our October trip to my MDE account yet. I think I'll wait until the June trip is over and all my friends and family are finished sharing our activities. Then I'll switch them off so they can't see what we are up to in October and December. ;)

I like reading about what you are up to and what's on your mind, so please continue doing so :)

Looks like you have a lot of decisions to make about how you want your house decorated and furnished

Great pictures of Cooper :)

Where in Europe are Allison traveling to?

How exciting that your ADR month has come :) I can't wait to hear more about your ADR and trip plans.

Yes I got to take the electrical wheel for my manual wheelchair with me home yesterday after it was customized :woohoo: I haven't tried it properly yet. But when I do I will take a picture or two so you can see how it is.
Now it's only my new car that I haven't got yet. I can't wait to get it home.

I also plan to bring down one of the long dressers from our bedroom, and we will convert that into a media console... We've been making due since Christmas until we found something we liked - and of course, Pinterest gave me the idea of using one of our dressers - I guess it's a "thing" now? This sounds very interesting. I have never heard of anyone using a dresser for that purpose! Looking forward to seeing what it looks like when your done.

It seems as if you and your family are moving very quickly with all these new projects, which is great!
. Some cute Coopie pictures from last night... He was so tired from "helping" Josh. MM is scared to death of Josh's air tools, but Cooper has never seen them before... Max was hiding in another room and Cooper was right behind Josh on the floor trying to look over his shoulder - it was quite funny. :lovestruc

20160404_203056.jpg
I am such a softie for dog pictures, I love when you post pictures of your fur babies! Cooper looks so peaceful sleeping:lovestruc
I am also knee deep in trip planning stuff... I am ready to pull the trigger any moment on Allison's airfare to Europe (and home again). I hope to have it purchased before the weekend - I've been saving for it since we returned from Disney, and it looks like I have enough now. This terrifies and excites me all at the same time... I've been distracting myself with house projects - if you can't tell. ::yes::
I feel like when airfare is purchased for any trip that's when it starts to become more real! Is Allison getting excited for her big adventure?!
Along with that - we are working on V's Disney trip... This is our month to make ADRs... As usual - I will wait until the beginning of next month to share our ADRs, just so my dates aren't too transparent. At that time, I will also share our plans. I am very excited for this trip to happen!
Yay! Looking forward to seeing what you and V picked!:goodvibes

I'm finally getting caught up again. So glad your knee is on the mend and that your tooth seems to be better too. I hope Allison is on the mend too! Yay for home improvement projects. I have a love/hate relationship with home improvement projects. I hate all the work and mess but love the end result! If you don't want to sand and scrape the dresser for the media console, have you considered chalk paint?

I painted and old IKEA cabinet with chalk paint and for our guest room we had completely mismatched flea market furniture that now all matches! It is really easy to work with and does not require all of the prep work that refinishing does.

It is so fun to check out your progress on your living room each day! Boo for other plans tonight, lol.
It is great to hear Allison is better :cool1: And how exciting for her (maybe not so much for you) on purchasing her airline tickets! What an amazing graduation gift, she will make lifelong memories this Summer. I know it will be hard for you though :grouphug:...

Thanks about the house! It's always good to have some new options. The planks might work well because they have some flexibility to them, but I will tell you my husband struggled a bit more with them than he did with regular laminate planks because they tended to shift more easily. In any case, it is a nice look and totally changes the look of our kitchen...and of course makes me now want to do something new with our cabinets. Thanks though. I actually do love carpet but carpet does not love my pets..or maybe it's the other way around. Yanking the carpet from our living/dining room was a long time coming and now our entire first floor has only one area of carpet...our family room and I refuse to pull that.

Good luck planning out your ADRs...we still have another month to go for ours and I can't wait.

And wow on booking the airline ticket to Europe as well. I would be avoiding that just like you are if one of my kids was going even though it will be an awesome experience.

Hahaha.... I totally understand - it's very difficult to do only one thing in a house - it really snowballs doesn't it? The only reason I hate our carpet in that area, is that it's a very light color and it's very near to the front door - so much of my family doesn't take their shoes off before going in there - and it gets very dirty, very easily.

Thanks - we are working on them... It seems a bit more difficult for this trip - as Allison and I totally agreed on all of the restaurants - and even though I enjoy V's choices, they aren't my favorites - which is OK. :thumbsup2

Yes - I am avoiding it, but it will happen with in the next few days... We are all starting to get nervous that it's not booked yet. I am excited for her, but at the same time, super nervous. But she will be OK - she will be with family and people that I trust the entire time - it's not as if she is going off by herself ever. ::yes::

Remember I said we moved all those dressers around at our house last week or so?! We did the exact same thing with a dresser from our bedroom--our entertainment center was humongous and awful, so we finally dismantled it and put it out at the curb!! I actually really like how the dresser looks in the living room...however, we still have a giant old-style TV and it is a bit of an eyesore. My husband has been lobbying for a flat screen TV and I keep saying we don't need one...but we sort of do, especially now that I see how dumb our old tv looks in that spot!

Exciting that you're about to book Allison's flights for Europe! She must be SO excited for this adventure!

Ahhh - yes - I do remember. Cool! I am excited to move everything around - but at this point, I am just anxious to get all this work done. I can totally see where that would look a little different - hopefully you are able to fit a newer style TV into your budget soon. :thumbsup2

She is very excited - I am very nervous... but she will have so much fun - I must admit I am a little bit jealous... She will get to see and do so many wonderful things that I've only ever dreamed of doing.

I can't wait to see where you you move your mantle. It seems like you just put it up.

I'm sure it will look great!

How do you store your extra fabric in your sewing room to reorganize my basement and the file cabinet that i'm using is starting to drive me crazy.

Me too - LOL - I just hope we are able to make it work where I am thinking, otherwise, I am not sure it will go back up again. Which saddens me - as I enjoy decorating it. But, in the even that it doesn't make the cut, I will be decorating the top of the dresser/media console as I would have the mantel - so all is not lost. ::yes::

Ahhh... My extra fabric... I was going to take a picture for you - as I just reorganized and folded it all right after Christmas - but it's a mess again already. I just have it folded on a large shelf - organized by theme (character fabrics, dot fabrics, solids) - then organized by color. All of it is visible and easy to get at that way. My shelf does not have doors on it - it's just 2 regular (short) book shelves side by side, as that its all that will fit in my space.

Have you been busy! Love the new color in the living room. It's pulling together nicely.

Love cleaning out and re-organizing. Of course me cleaning out now means take it out and pack it into boxes, plus donating a ton of stuff. The first thing that I donated was my ski pants and jacket.

Have a fabulous day!

Thanks - I am pretty excited about finishing it. I sure hope we do it soon.

I totally understand - I love it and I hate it at the same time. It always feels so good to get things cleaned out. I am not looking forward to the day we move from this house - as much as it drives me crazy and I'd love to find a house that's more functional for us - just the thought of cleaning out/moving all of this stuff sends my anxiety through the roof. LOL

Thanks - yes we are both much better. I need to think about starting to run again soon - maybe this weekend? :scratchin Depending on how the work on the house goes.

Interesting - hopefully it's gone by now? We are in our rainy season... So - it's kind of chilly and dreary right now, but I will take that over snow and bitter cold any day. ::yes::

Thank you - you too! :lovestruc

It's looking great!! I really do love it. Once you have the second coat of paint up, the trim finished, and all the curtains up and furniture moved back in I think the color will be great, and if you don't love it all of the furniture, curtains, etc., will draw your attention away from the walls. Your dogs are so cute.

Thanks! It's coming together nicely... I am still trying to talk myself into the curtains that I want... Sigh. Maybe if I buy one per week - it won't hurt as much? LOL Then I run the risk of not getting them all.

Yes - it's exciting and terrifying all at the same time... Plans are starting to come together for her, and I am excited just to hear about all the wonderful things she will be seeing and doing! :woohoo: To have an opportunity like this at this time of her life is amazing!

Thanks - I like them most of the time. LOL

The baseboards look great. Are you planning to move that huge curio cabinet back into the living room?

Our ADR day for our Oct trip was yesterday but I didn't make any dining reservations. We have our big family trip in June and I was making fastpasses for that trip last night. I think I'll wait until the June trip is over and all my friends and family are finished sharing our activities. Then I'll switch them off so they can't see what we are up to in October and December.

Thanks! Well - right now the huge curio is in the living room... We will be moving it to the other side of the room though - so the room is more balanced. The China cabinet is also currently in the living room - but that will be moving to the dining room/kitchen. See - we just have too much BIG stuff in our living room... We need to disburse it a bit. LOL

I totally understand! I would do the same thing, however - if there was anything pressing you wanted to get, I would definitely make sure you get that asap. :) That is going to be such a fun trip for you!

I like reading about what you are up to and what's on your mind, so please continue doing so

Now it's only my new car that I haven't got yet. I can't wait to get it home.

Oh I will... I don't know what I will do when I don't have any trips planned? Then I will have nowhere to write. LOL

Yes - I have a lot of decisions to make, it's so difficult sometimes.

She will be going to France, Belgium, Holland and possibly Rome and London - as of now. :)

Me too - I am excited about them - and excited to share all of them with you!

:woohoo: Yay for having your electric wheel and your new wheelchair - this is so exciting!!!! Once you get your new car, then you will be all set. Do you have plans for your old car yet?

This sounds very interesting. I have never heard of anyone using a dresser for that purpose! Looking forward to seeing what it looks like when your done.

I feel like when airfare is purchased for any trip that's when it starts to become more real! Is Allison getting excited for her big adventure?!

Yay! Looking forward to seeing what you and V picked!

Yes - it's a huge thing right now... Do a search on Pinterest - you will be surprised. It's actually quite clever.... and I love that I can repurpose something I already have. ::yes::

Hahaha - yes - starting projects isn't a problem... Finishing them is. So, we will see. :scratchin

Hehehe... Cooper is still very much a puppy - a cute one, I agree, but a total nut. LOL We love him though and MM too.

Exactly - she is getting so excited. I am both excited and terrified for her... It's a big step in her life and also a big step in mine - it's sooo hard to let go. :lovestruc

Me too!!! I just hope I am able to get everything. Nothing V wants is very hard to get - so I think we should be fine. ::yes::

I'm finally getting caught up again. So glad your knee is on the mend and that your tooth seems to be better too. I hope Allison is on the mend too! Yay for home improvement projects. Thanks! We all seem to be healthy for the moment. Hopefully it lasts. :lovestruc

Me too, we are great at starting projects - but not so great at finishing them... but these NEED to be done completely and with in a time frame - so hopefully we are able to do that.

That is a great idea - I love the look of it... Unfortunately - due to the gift of the curio cabinet, our once casual living space has been turned a bit more formal than I'd prefer... So, I feel like I have to stain and refinish the dresser/mantel completely. I am a bit OCD about things matching and it drives me nuts that we have different woods in our living room. LOL And since I can't refinish the curio - I need to refinish everything else to match. I don't understand it either... I am weird. LOL

It is so fun to check out your progress on your living room each day! Boo for other plans tonight, lol.

Monica

Thanks! I just hope we can finish it. We are good about starting projects and terrible about finishing them. Thankfully - this is the finishing of an old project, but that doesn't mean it's going to get done. :scratchin LOL

Yes - I am excited for her, and terrified all at the same time. She will have a wonderful time and get to see and do things I've only ever dreamed about - so it's a thrill for sure. Just a bit scary to let go. :lovestruc I am just happy this is something we are able to do for her, it's an amazing opportunity, and she is lucky that it's something that's available to her at any point in her life... She will always have close family there who is willing to let her stay, so I have no doubt she will go back again and again over her lifetime. :lovestruc I am very thankful to them for letting my girls have this amazing opportunity. :lovestruc

Yesterday was pretty uneventful...

I lifted in the morning.

Then I worked all day.

I had my meeting.

And I went to bed.

LOL

Pretty boring.

Today is even more boring - with it being a Target day.

I hope you all have a wonderful day! Pixie Dust to all! :grouphug:

Yesterday was pretty uneventful...
Uneventful days are good. I worked all day, picked up the girls from school let the dogs out. Then we went to piano. Meet DH at chipotle, finally used my free burrito coupon. I don 't know what it is about chipotle but whenever I eat there I feel like my throat is closing up afterward. I thought it was from a spice in the guac, so i didn't get it. But it still happened last night .

Then we went to see Batman vs superman. By the time we got home it was almost 10 and the girls were too hyper for bed.

Michelle, I absolutely LOVE what you did with the furniture here!! I could definitely do something like that with the old dresser we're repurposing as an entertainment center! Is it just called chalk paint or do I call it something else?? I need to get my lingo straight so the men at Home Depot don't judge!! :)

Ah, Target days! Not sure I mentioned before by my husband (teacher by day!) also works at Target (nights and weekends). He's been there almost 10 years working in Hard Lines. I love when you say "It's a Target Day" because I'm sure it's with the same "enthusiasm" he says it with!!! :) Really though, you can't beat their discount and I love the extra % off deals he sometimes gets. Makes it all worthwhile!!

I hope you have a great day at Target

My plan for my old car is to try to sell it for $1197 if nobody want it, it will be destroyed.

Thanks! Yes, it is called chalk paint. You can make your own but buying it is so much easier and a much better product. It is a bit pricey but really worth it. You can, but don't have to, sand the furniture but for the most part it covers anything. The blue dresser that I did started off light so that was easy but we also had a dark wood mirror and headboard that were easily covered with a few coats of chalk paint. (pic above)

There ar special brushes you can buy but they are not necessary. The two brands I've seen are Annie Sloan and Heirloom Traditions. Our Ace Hardware also sells a brand (name escapes me) but they actually sell a ti table version so you can pick any paint color and they'll tint it whereas the other brands have set colors. It dries quickly and the only other thing to do is wax it with furniture wax. Of course they all sell overpriced wax but I've used regular furniture wax and it's been fine.

I totally understand! I would do the same thing, however - if there was anything pressing you wanted to get, I would definitely make sure you get that asap. :) That is going to be such a fun trip for you!

I went ahead and booked our Liberty Tree Tavern lunch for our October trip just to be sure I had the time we wanted. :) My husband and I have a system worked out. He gets a bowl of soup and then we split an entree. Then we have enough room for the Ooey Gooey Toffee sundae. :)

Yay for using your Chipotle coupon... I just love eating there. :lovestruc I used to always have problems eating there, I also thought it was something in the guac - so I stopped eating it and eating there very rarely, but it would still send me into gall bladder attacks almost every time. There was something - some sort of spice or something that would just not agree with me. Then - obviously, once I had my gall bladder removed, all was good and I could eat there any time. And now, I prefer to eat there, just because of their food processing and dedication to using local and organic foods - it may not be the best place in the world to eat - but it is better than the alternative. I hope you are able to figure out what is causing your issues... Maybe - since you now know it isn't the guac, start eliminating one thing off of your bowl/burrito every time you go, so you can figure out what causes it? :scratchin

I've heard that is a good movie. :thumbsup2 Yay for taking time and enjoying the movie together - I love doing things like that!

Hahaha! I'll bet our enthusiasm is much the same. ::yes:: I've also been at Target for almost 10 years... I love the people I work with and I do enjoy my discount very much. There are days that I truly don't want to be there, or don't want to do the job I have to do - but usually my fellow team members make it worth it. :lovestruc

I hope you have a great day at Target

I do really like the look of this a lot! I wish there was some way I could wrap my mind around using it in our living room... It's totally my style, but not really the style of the curio cabinet... Sigh - that darned curio really throws a wrench into out space. LOL Thanks so much for taking the time to share your additional pictures and tips - I adore the theme of that room & how nice it all looks together! :lovestruc

Good idea - I love eating there... I happened to look at my Freedom Pasta photo the other day and boy did it make me hungry for LTT. LOL Good system!!! Does he have a favorite soup? I've never ordered soup there. :thumbsup2

***********************************************************************************************

I had a good day yesterday - considering I was at Target all day. ::yes::

Josh and I had a nice dinner alone, I made salmon with roasted veggies - it was delicious! :lovestruc

Then we were lazy all night - he hasn't been sleeping well the last few nights, so I didn't force him to work on the living room at all.... We plan to tonight though. ::yes::

Today... I just booked Allison's airfare to Europe for the summer... She leaves at the end of June and comes home in September. I have lots of thoughts and feelings on this - but I am trying so hard not to concentrate on the sad ones, and just be happy for her and this adventure of a lifetime. :lovestruc Financially - we have done our part in this, and it feels good to have that out of the way. We are half way there... With Allison's Disney trip complete and paid for, and now our portion of Europe done... It's time to start saving for Victoria's Disney trip - I've been putting a little aside here n' there - so we are well on our way to making this happen. :woohoo: As most of you know - it's very important that all of our trips are done with cash only - so I get a little stressed about making things happen on time. But it's easier on my mind to not have extras like this on credit - and I feel like we value our trips more this way. :lovestruc

So, I will be heavy lifting this morning. It's officially been 4 weeks since I've recalculated my food intake, I will be weighing this morning. I am hoping for a good loss - because I am noticing a difference in how my jeans fit and look on me. It feels good and I am hoping for continued success here...

I will also be working from home for the remainder of the day. And we will be working on the living room tonight. I am going to go through it this morning and straighten up a little bit... It's driving me a little nuts to have a mess in there - as that's usually my "clean" room. LOL

I hope all of you have a wonderful day!!! Pixie Dust to all! :lovestruc

D~

I can't believe Allison is spending that long time in Europe. It will be a lot of fun for her. I can totally understand that you want to pay cash for all the trips. It's not fun having to pay the credit card bill for a long time after the trip is done.

Today I've been planning my little birthday party with my family that I'm having on Sunday. My birthday isn't until Monday, but it's easier to gather people on a Sunday.

Have a great day

I am hoping for a good loss - because I am noticing a difference in how my jeans fit and look on me. It feels good and I am hoping for continued success here...

I hope all of you have a wonderful day!!! Pixie Dust to all! :lovestruc

D~

:yay: Glad you got the airfare to Europe booked! I can't imagine having one of my kids being gone for that long but agree she will have a great experience. We are planning on dropping my daughter off with my brother and his family on our way back from Florida in June, thinking she'll stay with them for about a week and will help my SIL take care of my two nephews (who will be 4 and 2 at the time) and help take care of their farm (she has a gazillion chickens, some horses and 3 dogs) so I know my SIL will love having the help...and my daughter will love helping with the babies...but I will miss her for that week and she's only a 7-hour drive away if things don't work out.

Here's hoping you have a good weight loss day too!

I made salmon with roasted veggies - it was delicious! :lovestruc
Yum! That sounds good! How do you usually prepare your salmon? Do you put some sort of marinade on it, or just leave it plain?
That is so exciting the airfare is booked! I bet she will have so much fun:goodvibes I saw on FB Allison quickly mentioned a blog, if she decides to do one, please let us know, I know I would love to read it!:goodvibes
