Yes, your location can be tracked via your cellphone, BUT you can turn that off so it can't be tracked. On my phone you pick "Settings" Then "Phone Settings", then "locations". You have the choice of "Location On" or "e911 oNLY" With E911 only you can only be tracked if you call 911.

Unless I'm running from the law, I don't care if they can track me. If I go missing for some reason, perhaps they will be able to find me by tracking my cell phone.

Right, and... Who cares if the government can track down where your cell phone is at any time? The pro's far outweigh any cons I can think of, unless of course you're a criminal...then I suppose it could go against you.

Let's see, this week so far, I've gone... to Dunkin Donuts in my city; to work; home; to Dunkin Donuts in my work city; to work; home; to work (no time for DD yesterday); home; and, since I'm off today, I'm probably going foodshopping at Shaw's - and then home (if anybody's looking for me).

Personally, I'm hoping they perfect technology to the point that I can have a chip put in my body, that will allow my family to locate me at any time, before I get old and forget where I'm going.

Seriously, I have no problem with this. As long as I am not doing anything wrong, I don't care who knows where I am.

I've often thought how great it would be to have everyone chipped so that they can be located by the authorities. Think of the old people with Alzheimer's who have wandered away and died before anyone could find them. Think of the children who go missing. I'd bet their families would welcome the idea of location chips. Again, if you aren't doing anything you shouldn't be doing, why would anyone care where you are?

That's not how 'Location on' works.
Having that turned on allows you to access features like 'navigator' and other apps.
Phone calls are traced to location either way

It's funny you mention this. Just the other day I was reading an article that was about a bill being debated in the VA state legislature. The way the article read, the bill would make it illegal for an employer to implant a tracking device in someone. I'd like to assume the article was written incorrectly, because I just can't imagine an employer doing that anyway. Now if it had said "on" someone or their vehicle, then the article would have made a lot more sense. (People who wrote under the comments section had a field day with tin foil hats and aliens).

But as far as the cell phone tracking issue goes, I'm not to worried about Uncle Sam knowing when I go to the potty.

I couldn't care less if people can track where I am. The pros outweigh the cons in terms of law enforcement (many, many cases have been solved through the use of cell records and tracking which towers were used when calls were made) and I don't have any intention of running afoul of the law anytime soon, so track away.

This week I have gone to the gym, my parents' house, the grocery store, and a local mall. I work from home, so I guess maybe they could track me from my bedroom to the kitchen daily if that's how they get their jollies.

She'd been out with friends, or at least a friend, so, yes, had been drinking some. It seems now, from the investigation, that the road curved where she didn't expect it to - and she went into the lake. She called her husband and told him she'd driven into the water, but didn't know where she was.

Right after it happened, the police were able to locate her general area, but only because they triangulated her phone signal off the cell towers - and they could only determine that she was in a certain two or three square mile radius. I forget how they finally did find her - it turns out the car had gone further out into the water than anybody calculated it could have. But it WASN'T by her cell phone - even when it was charged.

How is this different from cops doing a stake out? They don't need a warrent or your permsion/knowledge to follow you around and check on your whereabouts, so why is this any different than that?

Seriously, this is right up there with the "theory" that the goverment can track your car and listen to your converstaions via OnStar because the goverment now "owns" GM.

The FCC has required that cell phones be E911 compliant as of 2008. Able to be located within 300 meters.( or something very close to that )

Nope. Not kidding at all.

There was a woman in the Kansas City area a couple of years ago. She suffered from Alzheimers. One day, she got in her car and drove away. The authorities and the family searched for her, but could not find her. They found her body a couple of weeks later, in her car, which had run off the road and down an embankment into a wooded area. She froze to death. I'm sure, the family would have given anything to be able to locate her when she turned up missing.

There are two woman missing in the Orlando area and a little girl. One of the women has been missing about three years. The little girl has been missing for a year. The other woman for about 8 months. The families and the authorities have tried everything to find their loved ones. Don't you think they would give anything to have a means to immediately locate these people?

I've had long discussions with my daughter about this. We'd both be willing to be chipped if the technology was available.
