Well this morning I have heard that the hurricanes follow the same course as the slave ships from Africa and are a punishement from God for slavery.

Then another caller said the looting was also a direct result of white Europeans snatching peaceful Muslims and forcing European religion on them.

While I failed to see the logic (just before turning the radio to a music station) there will always be idiots who pull out their favorite arguments for anything.

This will be "blamed" on anything from the wrath of God on a liberal society to the heartless policies of George W Bush.

Oh and I'll this add for those Christians who think that God punishes sinners on earth:

We are ALL sinners. Every single one of us. Jesus did not discriminate EVER saying if you believe in Him, your sins aren't as bad.

If God's going to punish sinners on earth, he's going to punnish you and me too.

Get over yourselves and look to what Christ really said.

It's not a small town mentality. I know some Atlantans on the conservative right who view the hurricane as God's will.

In contrast, my liberal christian church is saying the hurricane was caused by global warming, which is the result of Bush's policies.

Isn't that what that German official said?

Please, we are looking at a natural disaster. Is anyone to blame? Well, there is some question as to why the levy's were set to handle a cat 3, but God's punishment? Or, result of US policy? Give me a break.

I have a good friend of mine -- a born again Christian who primarily reads the Old Testiment -- who believes it is God's vengence on America as a whole. Although I think he's whacko in his beliefs, there are A LOT of people out there with the same beliefs; THAT is the scary part.

We went to eat with some distant relatives last night, and I was encountered with this type of mentality. I was livid. These people I do not know well, but they were travelling throguh town from out of state, and so we met for dinner.

Basically, the guy said the following:

It's their fault this happened to them, they chose to live in NO.

They deserve it becuase they didnt evacuate.

This will be to everyone's advantage, all these people will get a better home and not even have to pay for it.

This will be really good for the economy. Imagine how much money this is going to cost.

I nearly lost it, I kept trying to bring in points of humanity, the loss of human life, and the emotions behind losing your home and everything you know, but I dont think that I was able to really influence him.

I cant believe that people actually believe those things. I was so saddened by everything he said.

I see little babies and small children and families on television victimized by the hurricane. I don't think they or anyone else could ever deserve something like that and to think or say something like that is horrible.

however, i remember several years ago watching a tv program about how no could better prepare itself for this kind of thing. they never took some precautions that could have been taken. obviously there would still be devestation, but what if they had actually done some of the things that were talked about for years instead of just saying it will never happen? perhaps fewer people would have died.

i hope that this will encourage other cities to plan for eventualities better.

They did plan, they asked for money, they never got it. This is a national issue, not something NO should have or could have done by themselves, rather it is a FEMA/Army Corps of Engineers issue.
