"They deserved it!"

Makes my hair stand on end! After I donated yesterday, two different people told me "well, they should have evacuated when they were told". UGH!
Like the children and old people really had much choice in the matter. :confused3

Very sad that there are people that actually think this way. :sad2:

Trust me, there are plenty of loons in Mississippi happy over what happened on the coast. Casinos=gambling=SIN. :sad2: I grew up in a very small MS town, and while there are good people that are truly concerned....there will always be those that will gleefully let you know that "one day a hurricane will fix that place".

Sadly, in a "spin off' mentality, I have overheard folks here (Chicago burb's) commenting about why bother sending aid there to these animals? The media coverage of all the crime/looters has sickened people (who do not wish to enable it) and they do not get to see as much coverage of the innocent, a shame.
Please do not think all of us here feel that way, aid efforts are underway everywhere....but emotions will run high...due to $$$$$$. It always comes down to $$$$.
So, no matter where you choose to live, lousy mentalities can be found...stick to your beliefs and live life the best you can. :wave2:

I'd tell them there's another part of the Bible called "The New Testament" and they ought to read that part too some time!

My guess is the people who read only the Old Testament are probably not the ones saying those things.

Wow, that is infuriatingly stupid! When I hear of people being that mean-spirited, or see the morons looting in New Orleans, I really have to make a conscious effort to focus on all the good people out there. The people plucking stranded people off roofs, the people organizing shipments of food, clothing, etc., the people donating money and blood...

Too bad more "Christians" don't leave judgement to God.

:sad2: It's like Robertson and Falwell blaming 9/11 on 'the gays' and the same thing with that whackjob Fred Phelps protesting soldier's funerals for the same reason. But then again, throughout history people have been saying and doing awful things in the name of religion. :sad2:

I guess these same kinds of people think only bad people get cancer or get hit by drunk drivers, because God only lets bad things happen to people who deserve it????

It's not a small town mentality. I know some Atlantans on the conservative right who view the hurricane as God's will.

In contrast, my liberal christian church is saying the hurricane was caused by global warming, which is the result of Bush's policies.

I am a born again Christian.

I am so blasted sick of Christians saying that God planned this kind of thing because of sin, etc.

GOD DOES NOT WORK THAT WAY!

God promised after Noah's flood that he would never again punish his people in that way.

God sent Jesus Christ as our avenue to be forgiven of sins.

If God floods nations and sends HIV/Aids on "sinners" (which is not true, IMO), then why on earth did he send His son? There would be no reason for Jesus Christ if God was going to continually punish sinners on earth.

God gives us every opportunity to turn our lives over to Jesus Christ. That's why He sent Him. If He punishes us on earth for sins, what would be the need for Christ?

For someone who knows Christ and their Bible this should be common sense.

These people are feeding their own judgmental natures by spewing that garbage. It makes them feel good about themselves. It's so totally wrong and God will have His say with them.

Oh and I'll this add for those Christians who think that God punishes sinners on earth:

We are ALL sinners. Every single one of us. Jesus did not discriminate EVER saying if you believe in Him, your sins aren't as bad.

If God's going to punish sinners on earth, he's going to punnish you and me too.

Get over yourselves and look to what Christ really said.

Wow, Ally, I can't believe it. Well, yes I can. It's just sickening. We need a throw-up smiley. That kind of thing pushes me farther away from organized religion, too. People like this shouldn't call themselves "Christians" because Christ would never think, act, or say anything like that.

That's what my husband heard twice today at work. And it's only 9:30 am! He works at a bank and overhears a lot of customer/teller chatter and already two people have come in and remarked that the people in N.O. must have done something to piss off God because that's why the hurricane hit.

...
I will NOT have my children raised around ignorant, close-minded fools like this!

:bitelip:

how come I have an image of a big finger coming down out of the sky and causing this?

oh yeah...saw it on an episode of Th Simpsons.
some people...sheesh!

Al - WHAT KIDS? ;)

Unfortunately, you knew it was coming. The ignorant fools said the same thing after 9-11, its only a matter of time before the televangelists open their mouths to join in the hate.

This is a childish self defense mechanism. If the Hurricane was caused by bad behavior and they are not "bad",then nothing will happen to them.

I was shocked years ago when a women i knew blamed a burglary that resulted in 3 accidental deaths on the victims. But she lived across the street from the victims. How could she stay in her home unless she could rationalize why a burglary wouldn't happen to her family.

Clarice :cat: and Grace :dog: of course! But if they start believing that God punishes sinners, they won't want to be around when the lightening strikes. I'll catch them wrapping up some pet food in a gingham blanket and grabbing a switch or two from the backyard.

"Happy Trails to you....Until we meet again....."

It is just so sad people think this way!! I said it on another thread, but it works for the "God's Wrath and Bush's Policies" people too.

"Either help, or shut up, and get out of the way."

He already overheard this once before when the tsunami hit last December.

I know this is a small town and there are tons of God-fearing types, but comments like that make me want to pack up right this moment and move. I will NOT have my children raised around ignorant, close-minded fools like this!

You said it all!!
Some people think their Faith/Religion is like a talisman..that is gives them some kind of exeption and protection from bad things....
very sad.....

Rumors of divine intervention swirl around statue

Hunt is on for Jesus’ finger

By James Varney
Staff Writer

In the garden behind St. Louis Cathedral on Royal Street lies an incredible tangle of zig-zagging broken tree trunks and branches, mixed with smashed wrought iron fences.

But right in the middle, a statue of Jesus is still standing, unscathed by the storm, save for the left thumb and index finger, which are missing.

The missing digits immediately set off speculation of divine intervention.

New Orleans has a long history praying to saints for guidance and protection in times of great peril. In fact it was Our Lady of Prompt Succor who was said to be responsible for saving the Ursulines Convent in the French Quarter from a raging fire that consumed the rest of the city centuries ago.

Since then, New Orleanians have prayed to the saint for protection from natural disasters. On Saturday, Archbishop Alfred Hughes read a prayer over the radio asking for Our Lady's intervention to spare the city a direct hit by Hurricane Katrina.

Many in the Quarter are now saying it was the hand of Jesus, the missing digits to be precise, that flicked the hurricane east just a little to keep the city from suffering a direct blow.

And the search is one for those missing fingers.

Shortly after Katrina passed, several men went to Robert Buras, who owns the Royal Street Grocery and told him they know who has the finger. Buras said he'd give them all the water and beer they need if they bring him the finger.
They told him they'd find it and asked to be paid upfront. But Buras told them he wouldn't take it on credit

"I'm going to find Jesus' finger,'' Buras said. “I've got a lead on it.”
