RF----
you silly girl.:goodvibes

That's the hotel we stayed at in Maui!! The Grand Wailea.
SOOOOOOOO great.

Make sure you spend the money to go to the spa. Yes, it is expensive-- but it is worth it.
You can see the carwash doors that flew open on me.:lmao:

You'll love it there. I'll answer any questions you have if you need me to.

It is expensive--the food on site. But there are shops and restaurants- (A pizza place that is really good-) within walking distance.

Transfer by taxi from the hotel to there are around $60 one way. I think. I can't remember- but I do remember them being expensive.

Cokes are $5 each. Beer is around $8 a bottle. Poolside the salads are around $18.

Food will really get you. But the pools and waterslides are phenomenal.

That's so exciting.:goodvibes

Jo

Yaaay! I loooved your pics Jo! I didn't realize it was the same place :yay::woohoo::yay:

So, we are trying to figure out how much money *additional* to the flight and the room that we will need. I am guessing maybe $1500 - is that being way too frugal? I have heard that the food is super expensive... And I would like to either zip line or snorkle while we're there. And - We'll be there for 5 days.

Do you know what page your pictures from your trip is on? I want to show my friend Rachel, so she can drool over them like I did. LOL. :goodvibes

I'm sure I'll have a million questions before then! We are looking for this trip to be the last week in March!

RF-
pages 128, 129, and page 134 has a sunset pic on it.

For the three days we spent there that we had to pay for- we spent $1500 on two nights rooms, food and spa on one day.

One meal at Humu- was $150- for dinner. That didn't include alcohol, as we don't drink. I recommend going offsite. The food wasn't to die for at the hotel- but it was pretty good. Breakfast for the two of us was around $80-$90 a day.

Lunches poolside or at the pool restaurant were typically around $60.

But seriously.... we weren't being careful with what we ordered so I think you could possibly do better than that.

This is the zipline tour we did--- http://www.zipline.com/ we did the 8 zip tour on Ka'anapali. It is $140 pp + tax. They also offer one over Mount Haleakala- the volcano- which is only 5 zips and it is $84 pp + tax. It doesn't take as long.

Let's see... anything else? Ask away.:goodvibes

Jo

Lake- sorry your day was frantic- and your poor car. :guilty:

I hate our car payments. So ready to be done with it--- but MCat can get her drivers permit next year, so I'm afraid that we will be looking at getting another one pretty soon after that--- well, at least once she goes into college. I think she'll be taking Matilda (My car's name, LOL) off to school with her.

Hope you have a good day with Emmy.

Jo

PS-
RF- you may want to think about renting a car b/c taxi service will be expensive to go anywhere. If you do-- you could get a refridge in your room and go to one of the markets around there for snacks and such.
And the ride to Ka'anapaali is an hour away. And you HAVE to go to Lahaina to shop, and you may want to drive The road to Hana for waterfall viewing.

AS long as noone has car sickness.

It's very wind-ey and people get ill on it.

:scared1:

Jo

Shelly-

SW-- looked up flights off of the email alert I got today --a sale of sorts- and leaving the 7th of Nov coming back on the 15th- they are $124 pp each way, non stop.

Just a heads up.

Jo

Good morning Mayers!

Shelly - Great pics of your boys and their first day of school.

Jo - Glad to hear you made it home safely. So sad to hear about the best man's father.

Lake - Bummer about the van. I hate car payments too. I hope your son's first day of school is awesome.

Trix - Sorry to hear that your daughter got a little nervous starting her new class today. I hope she had a good day.

RF, KB, and Mayer lurkers - HI!

Yeah, I saw that. That's still too dang much!! I have been thinking about buying the one on the way back, since the flight we want is at $124. But the flight down we want is still $147 . The only non-stop flight there at $124 is at 5:30pm. I'm not willing to lose my entire first day! Heck, I have a 4:40 dinner ADR for that day! :rotfl:

I just don't know what to do. Buy it and be done with it. Or wait it out and hope for the best. . . I am hoping they will at least come down to $99 each way, if not something better. Especially considering I usually only pay $69-89 each way. I think once ever I have paid $99 and that was only one way.

We spent the weekend helping my wife get ready for school. Today is her final day of classroom preparation. It is looking very spiffy! She has 20 5 & 6 year olds this year. Fortunately, she has a fantastic full-time aide that helps her so well the teaching goes really smoothly. So now it starts! LOL!

As I was cruising around the net this morning, I found this funny picture that someone took at DL this weekend.

Hand.jpg

It seems that Al Bundy was at the park for the holiday, passed out in front of Sleeping Beauty's Castle before fireworks. LOLOL!

Please pray for our friend Debbie. She just found out that she has brain tumor, the doctors are doing surgery on Thursday. She was told by one doctor it was stage 4 cancer. She has 6 kids, 4 of them are under the age of 10.

I hope her first day goes well and that she has sweet, well behaved children in her class.

:hug:I am so sorry. Praying.

Sea- praying for your friend and her family.

Hope Lena's year with her kids goes well.

Sea, very sorry to hear about your friend Debbie -- she's on my prayer list now. Best of luck to Lena with all those little students!

Jo, glad the wedding went well, in spite of weather, iguanas, magnolia crime, etc. Very sad to hear about the best man, though -- what a good friend he must be to the groom to stick it out through the wedding.

Shelly, I hear ya about the flights :headache: I bought quick when the price went up, and then it came back down later, so you never know. It's like the stock market! I love dark chocolate, so I would have liked the things you tasted -- but sheesh, for $10, I could buy two HUGE bags of Hershey's miniatures and Reese's cups and taste 'em myself! :rotfl2: When we went to Ireland, we toured the Jamison's distillery, and Tim got to do a whiskey tasting at no extra charge -- and there were like....9 shot glasses half full. ;)

Trixie -- aw, so sorry to hear your DD had such a rough first day of school :guilty: Hope things went better for her as the day went on...

RF -- wow, sounds like a good deal for the hotel in Hawaii, but yowza, the food and activities will really add up :teacher: Hope you can budget it out, because it sure sounds like fun!

Arrgh...Mike texted me this morning that he is horribly sick, feels like he has strep throat, and the dr. thought so too but the culture came back negative. I told him to get better quick!!! We leave in a week and 2 days! :scared1:

Sea - I am so sorry to hear about your friend. I will of course add her to my prayers.

Well Ethan is home, and the first words out of his mouth were...I'm really going to like this school. Music to my ears. It turns out that he is one of 3 Ethan's in his class though... WHAT???? I did not plan on naming my son a popular name, it sort of just happened. (I loved the tv show Thirtysomething, and Elliott had a son named Ethan, for 20 years I wanted to name my son Ethan and now suddenly so does the majority of the population...:lmao:)

Anyways... he said his teacher is nice, and he made a couple friends,a nd even rides the bus home with one of them. And as the boy he is, he also mentioned that he loves that they can take snacks out to recess.

So other than the van.. which of course has now started working for me agian..right when I don't need it. I would say a very successful day.

Sea- I hope Lena has a wonderful year.

Trixie- How was the girls day?
Shelly- And the boys?

Trix - how did things go???

Trixie -- aw, so sorry to hear your DD had such a rough first day of school :guilty: Hope things went better for her as the day went on...

Trixie- How was the girls day?

They both had great days! :cheer2:

DD7 said she can't wait to go back tomorrow. :goodvibes

DD9 stayed in the classroom all day without ANY issues. Once the teacher got her into the room, she was absolutely fine. I'm so relieved!!! She even wants to volunteer to be a kindergarten bus helper. :confused3

They were both kind of ticked off that they don't have more time to eat their lunches. :rotfl2: They're just going to have to eat faster. popcorn:: But if that was the most upsetting part of their days, they did really well.

Thank you so much to all the MAYers for your thoughts, prayers, and support for us today. I'm so blessed to have such great imaginary friends (as my DH calls my computer peeps)! :lmao:

It seems that on wet days like today the internal computer has a glitch. Dampness I guess.
This has happened before.

My vehicle is dying slowly I'm afraid. Time for a new one almost...just not looking forward to vehicle payments. I've had this one paid off for a long time.

Hmmm...I wonder if it's a problem with the throttle casing. I had that a couple of times and that's what they said was the issue. Most of the times it's fine, but twice we've had that same type of thing happen. Once before Christmas, when it was all slushy and sloshy outside, and then again during the horendous storm while we were camping.

Good luck. I hate car problems.

Imaginary joBird checking in....:goodvibes

so glad your girls had a good day. I hope that this is a positive experience or both of them!:goodvibes

What did you do to pass the day????

Jo
