There Isn't Enough Money In The World...

A friend of mine is working for a resturant company as a manager, not a general manager, just a manager. Anyway they wanted to relocate him to Nebraska. They're paying to move him & all, but it looks like he's going to be up there for some time & he accepted & went up there a few days ago.

I was discussing this with another friend & I said that I couldn't do it because it was so far from family, it's not really a big city & the winters would drive me insane. The friend said it wouldn't bother him at all & he likes the cold (he complained about Orlando being too humid from his trip a week ago). He said if money wasn't an issue, he'd love to live in CO. I said from what I've seen it looks nice...during the summer, winter is another story. I couldn't live in a snowbelt state. There are areas (mountains) in CA that get snow, but you drive to it, it doesn't show up on your front porch & you don't have to shovel out your car & drive way every morning. I said that if money wasn't an issue I'd be happy living the rest of my life on a tropical beach in Key West or the Bahamas. He said he'd hate it.

I told him that if a company told me that I had to move to an area in the NE or the snowbelt, even if it came with a pay raise, I'd strongly consider quiting or taking a cut in pay to stay where I was.

What about you guys? Is there an area of the country or a climate on the planet that you absolutely could not deal with?

I could never live above the Mason Dixon line. I could live out west but not California. I'd prefer the old south, Georgia, South Carolina, Louisana, or Florida.

UK, why not CA? I mean there are a bunch of reasons not to live there, but what is yours?

I like the area I'm in quite well. Sometimes we even get 4 seasons. I'm not a winter person, but given the choice of a few month of cold and snow or winter without my family. I choose my family anytime.

My life revolves around my Children and my Grandchildren. Vacations are one thing but being away from them for months on end. I'll choose Mass and put up with the winters.

Where's a girl from Boston going to go, no one understands what I say anyways.

Nothing wrong with 4 seasons. Of course, Omaha would be better than here, since they get much warmer temps than us. On the other hand, they stay sloppy in the winter, while our snow stays frozen. I think all climates have their down periods. If you live in a hot area, the summer is your cabin fever time. If you live in the north, it is in winter. I often complain about the snow, but there are lots of things I like about all four seasons. I just wish winter wasn't so long here!

I would never move unless I could take my family with me.:D

It's just too important to me that I see my nephews grow up and my future nieces being born too.

Different strokes for different folks I guess.

We have relocated to a colder area, and well, I do have some cities I would prefer not to live ... (Chicago, and L.A.)... been to both of those cities, and would not personally want to live there.

But since my DH is in the IT field, and that can be volatile field to be in... I really am flexible (those two cities I would not like to do, but would if there were no other options)

I want to leave the northeast! I am so tired of cold, and snow. I hate it. :( By the time February and March come, I am so depressed and moody. I need to go south, where it's warm and sunny. If we ever sell the store and attempt to retire, we heading south for sure! My DH actually likes CA, so that might be an option, too. ;)

We've lived away from all of our families for over 23 years now, and we've adapted to that. So being apart from family members isn't a big concern for us.

Personally, if I could take my kids and DBF with me I'd love to live in the Snow Belt. The South is my least favorite area of the country.

I wouldn't really want to live any place but here. I couldn't possibly live far away from my family.

Out of all of my relatives (cousins, great aunts, 3rd cousins, etc.) there is only one of us that lives outside the state of Minnesota.

Being from New England I guess I cant say I couldnt live anywhere cold, but if I were going to move from my family here, I would definitely go to a warmer climate....no way would I go cold.

It might not be my preference, but I would do it for a better life/job/etc. for my family.

However, I once worked with a man who had completed his tour in Vietnam and was stationed as a gate sentry in the Northeast.

He volunteered for another tour in 'Nam! He is from Lousiana and said he would rather be in the swamps and jungles than in the snow!!

I love the 4 seasons! Autumn is my favorite, but I like snow too!
I went through a period of "get me out of this" when I was younger, but now I like winter again!

I would not want to live in the Texas/Louisiana area. That was one area where I just didn't care for the climate.

I want to redo the seasons and have only three...spring, summer, and fall. NO WINTER!! Snow is nice, but I can't stand the cold! If I could live anywhere? It would either be Virginia or North Carolina.

I have to say I am quite happy with living in Virginia. The winters aren't too harsh, the summers are hot and lengthy (the way I like it) and I get to experience all 4 seasons.

DH and I both agree, there isn't enough money to make us return to Maine--where we relocated to for more money before we had kids! It's a nice place to visit, but if you don't like snow and extended winters, don't live there! I guess it's an acquired taste! When the opportunity came to relocate again, we grabbed it!

I prefer living where I am also...the only exception would be to move closer to the mountains...:)

I couldn't live in a place that rains all the time like Seattle or London, or the Rain Forest. I'd be in a perpetual state of depression if I lived in a place with constant rain.

I've got to be near the coast, for a whole variety of reasons.

I couldn't live anyplace that was very hot and/or humid. I love vacationing in Florida, but would never choose to live there. Houston would fall into that category too. You'd have to pay me a fortune!

My first choice for the ideal place to live would be Orlando, moving north and west from there. However, if I secured a job that would provide better for my family, I would consider living anywhere.
