The Yuck Factor

Never go to Planet Hollywood. The worst restaurant. yuck!!!yuck!! bad service, noisy, nasty food!!!!

Mama Melrose's in MGM. THE worst Italian food I have ever had in my entire life! Never, ever, ever again!!

The first entry in the Yuck Factor! Here we display any bad Disney Restaurant experiences, a restaurant that was just simply bad, bad service or any other "Yucky" experience you've ever had at Disney food area.

And our first Yuck entry is...

Epcot's Nine Dragons Restaurant, located in Japan!

My first trip to Nine Dragons will be my LAST. For one, the service and cooking was so slow that I could've stopped by Magic Kingdom, went on a couple of rides and still be back in time for the appetizers. When the time came that we got our food, it wasn't great and was slightly burned. I personaly never want to go there again.

Well of course you had problems if you were in JAPAN dining from the restaurant in CHINA...they had to run 1/2 way around World Showcase to place your order and run 1/2 back with your food! LOL

Well, we like to call our nomination the Yuckitori House (er, I mean Yaktori). It was just gross and there was so little of it. That's one place we will never try again.

Our other Yuck was Hollywood and Vine. It was Thanksgiving, the places was packed, service was horrendous, the food was cold. Even the desserts were awful. We won't do that again, either.

Now, as an overall yuck, we just don't care for Disney's version of Thanksgiving. We have yet to find a place with traditional Thanksgiving food we like, so now we go for an alternative Thanksgiving menu.

Our biggest yuck was the pizza (i can't remember the name of the place) by toy story toy store. Does this make any sense?

Restaurants we will not go back too
Jiko
Mama Melrose
Brown Derby
Boma
Nine Dragons
Ohana's (dinner, unless someone would REALLY want to)
Le Cellier

I'm interested as to what you consider English food, meat and two veg can't be that bad. Fish and chips? The Rose and crown is about as British as pizza.

Bangers and mash, cottage pie, Ploughman's lunch are typical British pub food. All that's missing is the steak & kidney pie.

We go to the UK sooo often and I've tried & tried but I just can't eat British food except jacket potato & baked beans.

Yakatori (sp?) House in Japan. I had some kind of chicken (probably terryaki) and it was fatty and nauseating. If we were back in the 80's I'd say: like, gag me with a spoon, gross.

Never again.

Our YUCK award goes to the Liberty Tree for dinner....nasty food, green beans so hard they could've been used as weapons. just icky "American cuisine" I thought was a can't miss. Mostly non exisitant character interaction saw them as they wizzed past the table for their break. A huge waste of time and money IMO.... go figure I'm the picky eater I loved Boma and hated Liberty Tree.:confused3

TDS373X This is off topic - but I LOVE your license plate frame. Last year at MGM we got one that said "I'm Ready for my Close up" but after a while, we got uncomfortable and removed it, where did you get this one? Thanks!

Hmmmm.... I've had GOOD experiences at some of the restaurants mentioned in this thread (Boma, Garden Grill, and Chef Mickey's, for example). However, I'm surprised Sci Fi hasn't made it on here. LOL!

Sci Fi has to have the WORST food in WDW. Just awful! I ordered the ribs and, despite NOT being a picky eater in the least, I couldn't get 95% of them down. BLECH!!! So Sci Fi gets my Yuck Award.

I also deem O'Hana breakfast as possibly my second runner up. COLD Mickey waffles, wet scrambled eggs.... bacon as hard as bricks... UGH! Good thing Lilo and Stitch were there. LOL! I'd maybe give it a second chance, but never for breakfast. Ewwww.....

After many trips to WDW on the meal plan several times, I have to agree with the Sci Fi. We went there 2 trips ago and I did not care for the ribs. My DH wanted to try again. We were there last week and I ordered the steak. It was very tough!!!! That place has the neat atmosphere but the food was the pits for me.

Since all of the restaurants are yuk, I guess I'll have to cancel all of my ADRs for my week in August. I don't know what I'll do with all of those dining plan credits now. :)

Seriously though, everyone has a less than perfect experience somewhere. My two "avoids" are the Mexican restaurant in EPCOT (just didn't care for the food) and Alfredo's (doesn't come anywhere near the hype).

as this is our first WDW w/ actual dining...

But most of these are restaurants that get many rave reviews on this board!

Makes me realize...
1--everyone has different opinions
2--anyone can have a bad experience at any restaurant, depending on variables, particularly servers (former server here!)
3--anyone can order an item that just doesn't hit them, at any restaurant

Funny, I am trying to think of a restaurant in my past (anywhere) that was so horrible that it was memorable, and I would never go back to...
1--Circus Circus buffet in Vegas (think mess hall...with marginal food)
2--Spago in Vegas...it was OK; for such an upscale place we were really expecting to be WOWed. No reason to try again...much better places to eat.
(ordered meatloaf--NEVER order meatloaf at a restaurant! My mom makes a BBQ type meatloaf, and they are always tomato-y at restaurants..NOT what I am used to!)

My biggest YUCK is Planet Hollywood -- gross! I would never waste my money in that restaurant again!

My other places to avoid: Alfredo's & Chefs de France

While the service and the show was fantastic - request Lukili if you can get him - I got a ham sandwich at the 50s Primetime and it was awful.

Again, the overall show was great. Just not so much the food.

Lukili (I think that's his name) from Morocco was incredible. I'm not really a fan of 'in your face' acting, and his style was very sharp, biting, almost sarcastic, quieter and incredibly funny.

Hands down it was NIne Dragons in Epcot. Soo horrible that I can't even explain it. PLUS there were literally birds flying around inside the restaurant.

We have definitely found what you say to be true and we think that the "hidden gems" in general have better food than the headliners. My rule is to try a restaurant once if it sounds good to you, but don't expect the moon and the stars just because of what people say here. You will often be disappointed.
All of the ones mentioned we've only eaten at once except Le Cellier. That used to be our favorite restaurant in the 90's. It was quiet, classy, friendly, prompt, and absolutely delicious food. In the 2000's we have given it more than it's share of redeeming chances and after a 2 hour wait with PS, with rushed half attentive service and food just average the last time we ate there, I'm afraid that's it. It's out. I'll get my taste of "Cheese Soup" at the Food and Wine Festival booth and enjoy a much better meal and atmosphere at Artist Point.
BUT AGAIN!!! That's only MY opinion!!! LOL

The only thing I've found to be yuck was the French Toast Sticks at the Electric Umbrella. They seemed to be deep fried and breaded? Seems redundant, somehow. Of course it doesn't help that they were served with table syrup. Call me a snob, but if maple syrup is made from maple and corn syrup is made from corn, what the heck is table syrup made from? :confused3

San Angel Inn in mexico (Epcot) was reallllyyyy bad. The service was slow, my diet coke tasted like it was spiked, and not just one i asked her for another one and it was the same, so i had to get water. our food had a sea of green cilantro covering it. and i am fine if something has a little cilantro in it, but the top was completly green from cilantro. i tried picking it off but that didnt work, and only ate about 3 bites of it. i will admit the atmosphere was great

2 years ago, we had a not-so-great breakfast at O'Hana. We usually do gret here. Our food came out cold - we told the server. She brought out another cold replacement and proceeded to disappear until our check mysteriously got dropped on the table. I don't blame the server for the food temperature, but was a little upset that she was no where to be found.

We also had bad luck at Liberty Tree Tavern for lunch. I ordered something that I just didn't like. So, I don't blame anyone for that. However, my kids ordered macaroni and cheese and let's just say that it looked like orange mashed potatoes. There was just no consistency. They literally cried it was so bad. Once again, we had the disappearing server. He was in the corner talking to another server (flirting??!!). I asked another server to send over the manager. After waiting 30 minutes for a refill on my drink, for the drink they forgot to give my husband, and a replacement dish for my kids, I felt it was time to say something. We ended up not having to pay for our kids' meals as well as our beverages. Unfortunately, the macaroni and cheese was still too mushy to recognize. We also were given another server who was fabulous.

1900 Park Faire also didn't do it for us last time we went for dinner. But, we have had very good luck there in the past. We are willing to give it another try.

We have learned to order shakes, fries, and onion rings at Sci Fi. My kids love the place, but the food just doesn't sit well with our fragile tummies! The appetizers and shakes are okay, though!

I usually give places a second chance. Even our home-town favorites have off nights.

Happy eating!

:goodvibes
