Trip Report Day 2 June 8, 2005

“I Want to go to the Haunted House NOW!!”

Reminder of the cast - :earsgirl: Me, not yet 30, but rapidly approaching that day, pirate: DH 30, :earsboy: DS 4 and princess: DD 10 months, about to turn 11 months...

5:30 A.M. – The phone rings very loudly with our wakeup call. I pick up the phone expecting Mickey or even Stitch, but just get some elevator type music. Huh??? Did I do something wrong? DH is so bothered by the loud phone – why didn’t you use the alarm clock? You know our cell phones have alarms on them…I tried to explain what I read on the DIS about Mickey waking you up, but maybe I did something wrong, not sure on this one. But, time to get up and get going, Pooh Bear and friends are waiting for us for breakfast at 8:05 at Crystal Palace! We didn’t get a ton of sleep – even with all the excitement of yesterday, DD still woke up two times in the night. Oh well, nothing different from home.
We arrive at the Magic Kingdom around 7:30 and get into the line to get in the park for the character breakfasts. We’re second in line at our turnstile. I kept hoping they might let us in a little early, but it was not to be. We didn’t get in until 8:00 on the dot. To make sure we get to DP for our 8:05 reservation, we’re really hoofing it down Main Street. We’ll enjoy the castle later! Find a photopass person later – none of them are around now anyway. I take a picture as we’re walking! The family ahead of us on their way to CP takes a wrong turn, I think, and we end up being first at the door. I didn’t think much of it until we got in and they asked me if it was okay for DS to be the Chef of the Day. All right! They take him around and let him say hi to all the characters, and they get him a magical moment certificate. Then he makes pancakes with all his favorite toppings on it with one of the CM’s while Pooh Bear looks on. DS gets a little shy – too much attention for him. But, he smiles great in his picture with all the characters and then they let the family in, too. When we’re seated, DS starts to crumble a little. The place is pretty noisy, the characters are coming a lot here – I guess since they haven’t seated that many people yet. It gets to be a little too much and he gets very moody. Then, he tries to show his certificate to Tigger just as Tigger goes bounding off and that does it. He’s pretty upset after that. I can’t get him to eat and he’s pretty down. It is often very hard to get him out of his funk once he’s into one. I start to worry about how to cheer him up, but DD is giving me a ton of trouble and I am trying to figure out how I am going to be able to eat any food! I try to talk to DS about how cool it is that we’re finally at WDW and doing what we have counted down to for so long and isn’t this great! Nothing. DH tries and says, is this too much for you? We get a nod. Do you want to go ride rides? Another nod. Will that perk you up? Yep, with a smile. Gotta love DH, just the right thing to say. Thanks! We try to get the check quick as possible and get out of there. Loved what food I ate. Can’t wait to return with two older kids!
By the time we get out, the park had just opened up and we could see the rush to Fantasyland. I knew we had to get to Dumbo ASAP. DH took DD in the stroller to get fastpasses to Pooh and DS and I went to Dumbo. I missed this ride on my last trip, so I was very excited to get to ride this with my son. I had been prepping him for weeks about how we have to go in a certain order when riding rides, but that at the end of the day, we will be able to ride everything he wants. Well, he forgot that this morning. 'I want to ride Dumbo later, I want to go in the haunted house NOW!' Sweetie, remember, we have to do this one first and then we can go the haunted house a little later, it is very far from where we are now. ‘I want to go on the haunted house NOW!’ To save some time and words, this went back and forth in different versions while we were waiting. When I saw DH come back, I offered to him that he could go sit with Daddy and our sleeping DD while I rode Dumbo and then the Haunted Mansion will come just as soon as we leave Fantasyland. Well, he didn’t want any part of that so I finally got some cooperation. By the time we were boarding Dumbo, all that was a distant memory and he was finally having some fun. I was beginning to worry, though! Dumbo was great, what fun to ride it with my favorite boy. After that, we all went over to Peter Pan. DD was still asleep so they let us do the baby swap even though she could have gone on this ride. DS loved it, so did DH and I. We all love Peter Pan. Afterwards, DD woke up and we all went on Winnie the Pooh together. DD’s first ride. She loved it. She clapped, smiled and was wide eyed through the whole thing. Never got scared. Even the huffalumps and woozles couldn’t scare her! Then we went on It’s a Small World – once again, everyone loved it. DH could have done without the singing, but oh well. Then, on to the Haunted Mansion. Yet again, another one I had prepped DS for and also told him he didn’t have to do it. We told him it was Mickey having fun with us and trying to scare us. DS didn’t budge, he totally wanted to do this one. The wait posted was 10 minutes, but we were in the stretching room in less than five. We started around 9:15 and it is not even 11 yet. We’re doing great on time! DS loved the Haunted Mansion. DH had only been to Disneyland and he thought this one was much better. DD rode in my doombuggy and did just fine. She never got scared and seemed to enjoy looking around at everything. I am so excited that things are going well so far! These few hours here was how I wanted and pictured things to be and we are all having a blast. Even though this happens often throughout the trip and I may forget to mention it, DS and I keep smiling at each other and telling each other how happy we are to be here. DH keeps smiling at me and telling me how happy he is to be with his family and not at work no matter WHERE we are!! :cloud9:
Since it is now close to 11, we decide to start heading over to Pecos Bill’s for lunch. The sun is out in full force by now and the kids are starting to melt. We think we’re going to go in and cool off. What a joke that was. The place was dark, crowded and hot. The kids got antsy and uncomfortable. Things were going downhill quick. Oh, the food was awful, too. The fries were raw, the burgers were crispy. So we focused on the chocolate cream pie, the only thing DD would eat – she was too irritable – and we got out of there quick! We headed straight for the buses, went back to the hotel and laid down for nap time to get ready for our next and last character meal at Chef Mickey’s at 5:00.
Everyone except for me takes a long long nap – I was too excited to sleep and kept thinking of our plans, always planning, I am. We wake up with just enough time to get up and get going pretty quickly. Not enough time to go in the park, just take a bus back to the Magic Kingdom and hop on the monorail to the Contemporary Resort to make our dinner reservations. DH and DS get a big kick out of the monorail. That is fun. We get to Chef Mickey’s right on time and are seated in about ten minutes. Probably would have been sooner, but our beeper was broken and never went off. DH really liked the food here. He got some very good prime rib and loved the parmesean mashed potatoes. I didn’t fare as well. DS only ate pepperonis from the salad bar, and DD was busy making a huge mess out of what food she would eat. Once again, the kids loved seeing the characters. Both of them get pretty wound up here at this dinner. We had to work hard to keep them corralled. DD would have no part of her high chair, so she spent most of the dinner being held by one of us. DS didn’t want a sundae here, we were pretty surprised, but he got some candies and gummy bears. We couldn’t get dessert because DD was giving us a hard time. We figured we could snack in our room later. We head out and ride the monorail the rest of the way around to get back to the MK. The Polynesian and the Grand Floridian look beautiful. Must be nice to have $$ to stay there, sigh…
When we get back to the hotel, we decide to go to the quiet pool for a swim. Part of our baby stuff we ordered included a blow up car for DD to sit in with a canopy to shade her from the sun. It is pretty cloudy, but she had fun riding in it anyway. The water felt great and we had fun for a brief time, until I saw a bolt of lightening and we were out of the water pretty quickly. No one else got up. Maybe they’re all used to that sort of thing? We head up to the room once again for bath time, story time and bed time. I love this story channel. What a fun thing to watch right before bed for DS while I am putting DD to bed!

Still to come, a day at Epcot.
And, when life gives you lemons, don’t make lemonade, buy park hoppers! :rotfl:

it is hard to go with the flow of KIDS........but we adjust and so do they......It is fun to be the first at a charactor breakfast and be able to be the chef of the day......that is awesome...thanks again

about my DS (4) not wanting to follow the MK touring plan. Luckily he didn't care what ride we went on next.

We did CP at 8:05 like you and crisply walked to Dumbo as well. We actually had the opposite happen to us at CP. My DS was getting grumpy from waiting to get to CP outside the park and quickly became a bear after the walk to CP. However we were one of the first families to be seated and the very nice waitress noticed that DS was grumpy and pulled Pooh right over and my DS quickly turned around and we had a great meal.

Enjoyed reading your report ~ Thanx for posting.

What a great day you had. I was excited to hear that your son was the "Chef of the Day." My daughter had that honor when she was eight and she still talks about it now (she is 12). We are going in August and she has it all planned out that she will beat the crowds and get to CP first. I didn't have the heart to tell here that they might not pick her because she isn't little anymore. Oh well, we will see.
