Would you try and take a photo of the The Red Flag Motor Cruisers Boat that holds appx 150-200 guest. I would love it for page 1

Thanks

This may be a silly question but does anyone know whether the rooms have glass or plastic cups? Trying to decide if I should add paper cups to my box of goodies I'm sending down ahead of us. Thanks. :yay: :yay: pixiedust:

At the Lodge they provide glasses not plastic cups. So you may want to take additional cups with you. I know why you asked the question, last December I checked the mousekeeping carts and they all had clean glasses on them. I would assume the used glasses are replaced daily at the Lodge, I understand why you may want to provide your family with cups you know are clean.

They didn't have clean coffee cups on the carts.

I saw that episode of inside edition. Take plastic cups just in case.

We have a ressie at WL for May, but now I'm getting concerned that it will be too dark and winter-y feeling. The resort looks beautiful, but is it better at Christmas and in winter in general? The fireplaces and nooks look cosy, but I want fun. We are having a brutal winter in Wisconsin, and I want sunshine and Florida!

How does WL compare to the Poly. I think I'd like the South Seas feel at the Poly and the monorail, but it seems like it may be a bit more rundown comparted to the WL. And, it's considerably more expesnive. And, busier and more chaotic.

What to do! I'm torn...

I called and tried to get an AP rate at Poly in May, but no luck. I think I'm going to keep my AP ressie at the WL. Tell me I"m going to love it!

I understand your concerns, while I enjoy staying @ the Lodge no matter what season it is. I am a Native Floridian most everyday of my life has been sunshine and tropical.

Remember you will be in Florida, you will have sunshine, the weather will be warm to hot in May, you will be outside in the sun most of the day while you visit the Parks or Water Parks. To me the Lodge is like returning to a large shaded tree protected and sheltered from the sun. Trust me you will know you are in Florida, no matter which resort you decide to stay at.

You asked how does the Lodge compare to the Polynesian Resort, during the 80's the Polynesian was where I stayed every trip, while I love the Poly I no longer enjoy staying there, I have been caught to many times running from the Ceremonial House zig zagging from one long house to the next during torrential rain storms trying to reach my room. I love that everything is under one roof at the Lodge and that the bus stops and walkways are covered.

Years ago someone noted that the Polynesian reminded them of some place out of the Brady Bunch TV Series now thats all I see when I look at it. :confused3

The Polynesian is DISNEY to many guest and it does have the South Seas Tropical feeling so if thats what you want the Lodge will not provide that same ambiance.

If you want Tropical without the prices of the Poly you could try one of the Moderates CBR or CSR both are very tropical.

I wish I could just tell you the Lodge will be everything you want it to be, but
I can't. I can say that the Lodge is a great resort and has the most repeat guest than all the other WDW resorts, so once people stay there most no longer want to stay anywhere else.

Good luck with your decision, if you decide to stay with the Lodge please ask any questions you may have.

Wow...Beckie, I have the same exact thoughts about the Poly and WL that you do.

As you can see from my sig, growing up we stayed at the Poly. It is one of the reasons why I fell in love with WDW. Although I still enjoy some things about the Poly...like taking a walk on the torch lit walkways at night...the WL has replaced it as my favorite.

I don't think the Lodge is dark at all. To me after a day in the hot Florida sun the decor of the Lodge seems cooling and refreshing.

But like you said...It all depends a persons taste.

I have so many wonderful memories of the Poly. The Coy Pond right at the entrance where each trip we could make WISHES on our pennies that we would return soon.

The 30 minutes I waited outside the men's room for my little nephew (5 years old) to come out, starting to panic I asked a gentleman coming out if he had seen a little boy inside?

He said "OH yes and he is going to have very clean hands he is going from one sink to the next washing them." (This was when they had just installed the Automatic Faucets) The next gentleman going in I asked if he would tell the clean freak inside that, "His hands are clean enough, if he didn't come right out I was coming in to GET HIM."

The same nephew walking around for a month after our visit greeting everyone with Aloha Cousin.

Yet my last stay at the Poly after staying at the Lodge just wasn't the same. :confused3

I haven't thought about that Coy Pond in a long time. That's a great memory to have.

My favorite memory of the Poly is relaxing on the beach with my family and swimming in the lagoon. Do you remember they used to have one of those floating decks you could swim to?

WDW was a much more relaxing vacation back then. My first two visits were pre Epcot. We spent much more time at the hotel then we do now.

and that's a funny story about your nephew.

...ok... should we get back to our regularly scheduled program now??? :)

WL...Read some posts about ducks being attracted to Wildnerness Lodge Pool????

Is there truth to that????

Thnx in advance...

Yes it's true but not just the Wilderness Lodge, ducks also swim over at the Polynesian. Actually ducks swim in most of the pools @ WDW they just look better at Wilderness Lodge because they go with the theme.
