The Widow and the Spinster take a Holiday Trip to WDW - The One Where We Only Get To Ride Half The Rides 4/6

We had just finished at Epcot and then we took the Friendship boat to the Yacht and Beach Club. Again great Boat Mojo. The boat was just sitting there waiting, we hurried a bit to board, but we hadn't needed to. The boat sat for a bit before we actually took off.

We went to the Yacht Club first. We exited the boat with two ladies who were complaining that the Gingerbread Lighthouse that was there last year wasn't here this year. We checked out the scene they had on display. The train wasn't running, but the Skyliner was.

Then we walked over to the Beach Club.

This year the Carousel featured Scrooge mcDuck from the Muppet Christmas Carol.

The first horse is the Scrooge McDuck horse. As you’d imagine, the theme here is: money. A wonderful sculpt of Scrooge is found in a wreath with dollar bills and coins scattered throughout.

The next horse that we’ll take a look at is a horse themed to Jiminy Cricket, who portrays the Ghost of Christmas Past. In a scene depicted on the horse, Jiminy Cricket shows Scrooge a vision of his early life where his love of money wins over his love of Isabelle.

Next up is the Ghost of Christmas Present horse, which depicts Willie the Giant with Scrooge in his pocket. A scene on top of the horse has a banquet Christmas dinner, complete with pig and cornucopia.

The final horse on the carousel is the Ghost of Christmas Future, which depicts Pete and a scene in the cemetery where Scrooge learns that he’s “the richest man in the cemetery” as Pete pushes him into his grave. A tombstone with “RIP Ebenezer Scrooge” etched into it sits atop the horse.

The final horse sits separate from the carousel and features the ghost of Jacob Marley – represented by Goofy in the movie. Chains cover the horse, along with some more money and a piggy bank.

And finally everything that went into making this!

We went to Martha's Vineyard and enjoyed some adult beverages while we let our feet and legs have a break. Our server was quite quirky.

Then we went to the Boardwalk via the Friendship boat. We were about halfway across the dock, and we had the best luck again. The gal running the boat hollered to us,”Where are you going?”

When we answered back, “Boardwalk!” She held the boat for another minute. It was then that I realized I had left my water I purchased earlier that day in Martha's Vineyard. Doh!

When we arrived at the Boardwalk, we checked out this tree outside.

Then we headed to the lobby to see the gingerbread house.

It was modeled after the Boardwalk Bakery.

And had this super cute inside with Mickey and Minnie as the Bakers!

Then we went to Abracadabar to wait for our table to be ready at Flying Fish.

We had great interactions with all the people around us and enjoyed more beverages. We checked in over 45 minutes early for Flying Fish and they took us 39 minutes later or 15 minutes early.

We already knew what we wanted and started with the pork belly. I got the recommended wine. Jill ordered a glass of Chateau Neuf de- Pape which was beautiful.

The pork belly was luscious and tender. We were both in heaven!

The pause between courses was a little more than we would have preferred but we both agreed that longer was better than shorter. I ordered the Seafood Trophie Pasta. Now it doesn’t look like there’s pasta in there, but trust me there is!

Jill got the Char Crusted New York Strip.

Our entrees were both spectacular! I ate way more of mine than I expected to. Jill loved her potatoes. I had a taste and they were bomb.

In the end we both ended up taking some back to the room. Mine was mostly shrimp and pasta. But we each easily had another meal in there. Possibly even two or three with Jill’s portion. We considered canceling tomorrow night's dinner reservation, but decided to keep it since it was a place both of us really wanted to go to. Besides, we didn't have to order an entire dinner right?

We contemplated dessert, but both of us were too full to waste calories on anything on the menu. Nothing really appealed to us.

We paid the check and headed to the boat launch. We decided that the most economical and feet saving way to get back to Kidani was to take a Friendship boat to DHS and then a bus from there. We only waited a few minutes for the boat to arrive. After it dropped us at DHS we made our way to the bus stop, and there was a bus waiting for us.

Back in the room, I ate my gingerbread cookie that I had purchased earlier today. Jill said she was going to go right to bed as soon as we got back to the room, but we ended up staying up having a thoughtful conversation before drifting off to sleep.

Wozas, they just do such great work on these!
Disney just does Christmas so well with its decorations, they really do!

Didn't quote them all, but thank you for the detail and pics of all the horses, I really enjoyed it!
Rye flour, interesting!
Wow the tiny vials and tiny croissants are just adorable!

Ok yum! this bread and butter looks sooooo good!
Now it doesn’t look like there’s pasta in there, but trust me there is!

You are correct, it does not! Glad it was delish!

What a great meal! I do look forward to the time when WDW is a regular in our travels :)

Do kids even know Rudolph anymore? Do they show those stop action animated classics anymore?
Yep, the classics are still played every holiday season and everyone sings Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer!
And finally everything that went into making this!

Quirky is a good word for him. LOL
. It was then that I realized I had left my water I purchased earlier that day in Martha's Vineyard. Doh!
Narrator: This would become a theme!

That lady "brought a baby, to a bar!?!?!" One of my favorite movie quotes.
We already knew what we wanted and started with the pork belly. I got the recommended wine. Jill ordered a glass of Chateau Neuf de- Pape which was beautiful.

Sublime!
Jill got the Char Crusted New York Strip.

So good! The potatoes were life changing!

Jill in CO

I just got an email from Southwest saying something about wanting to use up PTO.
I presume something along the lines of "Use your PTO and fly away with us"
Well you would pretty much have to do both because they occupy like 95% (or more) of the flights in and out of there. Passenger flights that is.
Ah! Well, if I ever do fly into there, then I'll kill two birds with one stone. :)
Well I haven't been having a lot of success either. I'm finding myself awake at 4AM more and more often.
Ugh. Yuck.
Do kids even know Rudolph anymore? Do they show those stop action animated classics anymore?
Sure they do. They may not know the movie, but they definitely know the song.
I actually had to google the name of the lake to write that!
If great minds think alike, what is it when both don't know the same thing!
Yeah, we just ran out of time, as one does on any Disney vacation! Thank goodness we keep coming back.
::yes::

we took the Friendship boat to the Yacht and Beach Club.
That's on Crescent Lake, you know.

Again great Boat Mojo. The boat was just sitting there waiting
Yes. I called ahead and told them you were coming and to wait.
The boat sat for a bit before we actually took off.
My bad. I told them to wait, but I forgot to tell them to go once you were on.
The train wasn't running, but the Skyliner was.
Shame about the former, cool about the latter.
Really like the display, but the train running would've put it on another level.
This year the Carousel featured Scrooge mcDuck from the Muppet Christmas Carol.
That's a nice touch. :)
Willie the Giant with Scrooge in his pocket.
Didn't see Scrooge there at first.
The final horse sits separate from the carousel and features the ghost of Jacob Marley – represented by Goofy in the movie. Chains cover the horse, along with some more money and a piggy bank.
Was trying to figure out how you knew it was Marley, then noted the chains. Dead (no pun intended) giveaway.
And finally everything that went into making this!
Did you find all the hidden Mickeys?
. Our server was quite quirky.
How so?
When we arrived at the Boardwalk, we checked out this tree outside.
Boy, Disney sure knows how to do Christmas trees, don't they?
Then we headed to the lobby to see the gingerbread house.

It was modeled after the Boardwalk Bakery.
I'm not really liking that one as much.
And had this super cute inside with Mickey and Minnie as the Bakers!
Although that is a nice touch.
I bought a loaf of Gingerbread cake.
Interesting. I've had gingerbread cookies of course, but never a gingerbread cake. How was it?

That bread looks really good.
We already knew what we wanted and started with the pork belly.
Looks (and sounds like it was) delicious.
The pause between courses was a little more than we would have preferred but we both agreed that longer was better than shorter.
Hmmm...
A little longer is better. But... I'll take the main coming out while I'm still eating the appetizer (definitely less than desirable) over waiting an hour or more.
Our entrees were both spectacular! I ate way more of mine than I expected to. Jill loved her potatoes. I had a taste and they were bomb.
Food sure looked good!
We considered canceling tomorrow night's dinner reservation, but decided to keep it since it was a place both of us really wanted to go to.

We decided that the most economical and feet saving way to get back to Kidani was to take a Friendship boat to DHS and then a bus from there.
Gave this a bit of thought... short of ordering an Uber... I think you're right.
We only waited a few minutes for the boat to arrive.
Yeah, I called a bit too late. Should have been waiting for you.
After it dropped us at DHS we made our way to the bus stop, and there was a bus waiting for us.
Yes, that call was made on time.

Kidding aside, you ladies really had some great luck with transportation that night!
Jill said she was going to go right to bed as soon as we got back to the room, but we ended up staying up having a thoughtful conversation before drifting off to sleep.
Those are the best kind of conversations.

Wow wow wow!!!! The resorts and trees and houses and decor are STUNNING!!!!! We need go plan a trip during the holidays! Dinner looked fabulous too.

We exited the boat with two ladies who were complaining that the Gingerbread Lighthouse that was there last year wasn't here this year.
Geez, some people will just find anything to complain about. :sad2:
This was so spectacular! Loved it...
The next horse that we’ll take a look at is a horse themed to Jiminy Cricket,

I adored this little house. The details were so fantastic!

Wozas, they just do such great work on these!
::yes:: Yes they do!
Disney just does Christmas so well with its decorations, they really do!
It's so beautiful! :goodvibes
Didn't quote them all, but thank you for the detail and pics of all the horses, I really enjoyed it!
Well I stole all the details....but they were either mine or Jill's pictures of the horses!
Rye flour, interesting!
That's what I thought as well!
Wow the tiny vials and tiny croissants are just adorable!
So cute!
Ok yum! this bread and butter looks sooooo good!
It was Potato Bread and so tasty!
You are correct, it does not! Glad it was delish!
It was awesome and even made good leftovers!
What a great meal! I do look forward to the time when WDW is a regular in our travels :)

I hope that you can come with sometime and we will stay in a cabin!

Yep, the classics are still played every holiday season and everyone sings Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer!
That's good to know!
And everything smelled so good!
Yes it did!
Quirky is a good word for him. LOL
:lmao:
Narrator: This would become a theme!
Well not completely! :rolleyes1
That lady "brought a baby, to a bar!?!?!" One of my favorite movie quotes.
I suppose I still need to up my movie game. :confused3
::yes::
So good! The potatoes were life changing!
Well, if you say so!

What is the Glimmering Greenhouses tour?
It's the holiday version of the Behind the Seeds tour!

I love all of the gingerbread displays!! So nice that you were able to resort hop and see so much of it. The carousel horses and theme were so gorgeous this year!

I presume something along the lines of "Use your PTO and fly away with us"
Something like that.
Ah! Well, if I ever do fly into there, then I'll kill two birds with one stone. :)
There you go!
Sure they do. They may not know the movie, but they definitely know the song.
That's good to know.

Good question!
That's on Crescent Lake, you know.

Oh, I know. :rolleyes1
Yes. I called ahead and told them you were coming and to wait.
Thank you for doing that!
My bad. I told them to wait, but I forgot to tell them to go once you were on.
Tsk, tsk, tsk
Shame about the former, cool about the latter.
Really like the display, but the train running would've put it on another level.
Yeah it was kind of a bummer.
Didn't see Scrooge there at first.
When we actually saw it, I did not know the extent of the themeing.
Was trying to figure out how you knew it was Marley, then noted the chains. Dead (no pun intended) giveaway.
I stole all that information off the interwebs. I knew it had something to do with scrooge McDuck, but at the time we were there I had no idea of the entire backstory.
Did you find all the hidden Mickeys?
No. I ain't got time for that I don't even try at the Gingerbread house at the Grand Californian.
Boy, Disney sure knows how to do Christmas trees, don't they?
::yes::
I'm not really liking that one as much.
Although that is a nice touch.
I think the Carousel may be my favorite display. We'll see as I report on all the other Deluxe displays.
Interesting. I've had gingerbread cookies of course, but never a gingerbread cake. How was it?
I love Gingerbread cake! It's delicious, better than cookies.
I'll call that a win.
:thumbsup2
That bread looks really good.
It was! Potato bread.
Looks (and sounds like it was) delicious.
::yes::
Hmmm...
A little longer is better. But... I'll take the main coming out while I'm still eating the appetizer (definitely less than desirable) over waiting an hour or more.
It wasn't an hour, but maybe half an hour. I really hate when my main comes out and I'm still eating my appetizer.
Food sure looked good!
It tasted good too!
Gave this a bit of thought... short of ordering an Uber... I think you're right.
And that's what we didn't want to do. We each had $35 in Uber credits on our Amex and we saved that for to and from the airport.
Yeah, I called a bit too late. Should have been waiting for you.
Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.
Yes, that call was made on time.

Kidding aside, you ladies really had some great luck with transportation that night!
You'll have to wait and find out how our luck goes.
Those are the best kind of conversations.
:goodvibes
I need to order this!
It was very good!

Wow wow wow!!!! The resorts and trees and houses and decor are STUNNING!!!!! We need go plan a trip during the holidays! Dinner looked fabulous too.

Well Christmas 2026 is out, unless we go before Thanksgiving....hmmmm....

Geez, some people will just find anything to complain about. :sad2:
Right?
This was so spectacular! Loved it...
Yes, I think this was my favorite of all the lobby displays, but it was exciting to go touring around the various Deluxe resorts.
... but I didn't pick up on the horses being themed after characters! Neat!
I saw Scrooge McDuck on at least one horse and then went to the Google!
I adored this little house. The details were so fantastic!
Yes! So cute!
