The What's For Dinner Thread - October'11 (recipe index in OP)

Happy Saturday, y'all! It's sunny outside, for now, but I don't expect it to last. We've had the kids outside, cleaning up the yard, and now we're trying to come up with something fun to do with our last day of Spring Break. We took the kids ice skating at the Olympic arena on Thursday, and they had a ball! It was so cute to see Timothy's face as he stepped on the ice for the first time. He had a "walker" to help him, and it was a good thing!!! By the time we left, he felt like a real pro. The other kids had a good time, too.

Dinners the last few nights have been nothing fancy. Just what we can grab and go.

Nancy - I'm praying! Please know that I'm holding you and Buddy close in my heart!

Hi ladies!

Nancy - prayers to you and Buddy this has got to be difficult.

Glynis - I hope you have a great day with your family!

Marilyn - your house must be spotless!

Jen - enjoy your weekend!

We are just pulling up on Las Vegas. This is not a fun trip, but business and icky business. Fran has got her little buddy Hector she calls it. The social worker who came to our house gave us this idea that the wound vac would be this big cumbersome thing that I would have to follow Fran around the house carrying ot for her!

We are making the best of it by doing some shopping before we have to at the meeting this evening.

I hope you get to enjoy some of the vegas trip.

I am looking forward to getting there and we have decided to go to Hoover Dam on Friday before the Weekend crowd.

It took me over a day to get on the boards!

Yesterday I made my own Garlic Powder.. I was excited, then I used it in a recipe for Jerky.

Hope you all have a wonderful day and see you later...

Hi everyone! Last. Ight we cheated, and went to the country club for dinner. I had grilled chicken. Feast with a balsamic sauce, brocollini, and carrots with a baked potato. DH grilled out hot dogs for lunch, and I made chili, two queso dips, and I bought some blackberries. Dinner tonight will be Italian Wedding Soup!:duck:

Hi everyone, we are on our last full day. We really aren't in Vegas, it's a beautiful resort far removed and perhaps under other circumstances it might be enjoyable. We have one more meeting and then we head downtown for our last night. I can't wait to play some blackjack with a living dealer.

WFD? I requested we go somewhere that they bring you your food, nothing fancy, but it has to taste good. We are staying Downtown so there should be a lot of choices.

....these boards are WEIRD today - every time I quote someone, right before the post appears, I get a 'warning' message at the top of the page....:confused3

Jen - Hope you got some rest this weekend. Thanks for the hug. I really needed it.

Marilyn - Hope you got your cleaning done! My pictures are being loaded up on the trip report. The link is in my siggie below. I've already started, been giving everyone a look round the resort and we should only just get into the park today. Hope to see you there! :thumbsup2

Nancy - I've been thinking and praying for you, Buddy and his mother this weekend. Hope you are all holding up.

Glynis - dinners have been non-existent around here for the last week.

Alison - hope things are going okay in Vegas and that Hector is doing his stuff.

Brandi - enjoy your Vegas trip! The boards were down all day yesterday.

ColorsOfTheWind - Hello. I must have missed your first post on this thread. Welcome!

Kimmar - the boards have been weird for the last week at least!

I'm starting to feel more normal again and am facing the prospect of heading back to work tomorrow. Today will be another day of taking it easy. This cough is driving me insane!

Kimmar~ :wave2:

Everyone else~ :hug:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It's been a busy weekend of cooking and blogging.
Everyone in the house is sick but me. I hope they get better and I don't get it. Some sort of spring cold has taken everyone down.
I made homemade pita bread today and I am SO proud of myself. :lmao:
Tonight we're having chicken gyros with the pitas and homemade tzatziki. YUM!
:hug: for everyone!
I am just stopping by for a little :grouphug: Buddy's Mom passed away Sunday morning. I want to thank you all for praying for Alyce. She passed peacefully and without the complications we all were so afraid that she would experience. God's work for sure.:grouphug:
This is where his role as caregiver ends and his sister's begins. However................not so much. She never gave the nursing home a funeral parlor to call. The nursing supervisor tried to reach her and no luck. She did not answer the phone and did not return calls on her cell. Who does not answer a phone call before 6AM??????????????????? The nursing home has an arrangement with a funeral home so they have Alyce and tried all day to reach SIL. No luck. I called the lawyer who was part of this mess and he told me he does not want Cathy mad at him by his calling and he has no luck reaching her anyway so "don't panic and you're not a big beneficiary anyway". Buddy wants to rip his throat out. I have told this shyster that we neither need nor want any money but this is about a woman's dignity!
I sent Buddy to work today and he called to tell me his loss is all over the quarry. I hope that word gets back to his BIL so he can get SIL into gear. I am so angry! We have no idea what is going to happen but Buddy has sworn that if she does not treat his mom appropriately he is going to make the rest of this process as painful as possible for her. She thinks that because her Mom specified her as executrix it is a given but if she cannot even follow a judge's instruction to preplan a funeral and will not make arrangements how can she manage probate? Buddy told me he will fight this every step of the way if she screws his Mother's arrangements up. We already have an attorney and he is my second call this morning.
In the meantime, it looks like my home is family central and Marisa has been wonderful organizing food and making sure Buddy does not need to worry about anyone.
Nancy - My condolences to you, Buddy and your family. I'm so sorry to read about the troubles with your SIL and I can only hope and pray that things improve rather than get worse for you and Buddy. Take care of you and yours and I'll be thinking of you all week. :grouphug:
Hi All! I have been cooking but it is disjointed. i had to cook the ham and the turkey I had in the fridge for Easter and made some sides to go with but Buddy is going to be a very happy guy this weekend becasue he can turn a lot of meat into sandwiches :lmao:
Allison- I think I am lost, does Fran need the would vac now? From what I was observed the dressing gets changed by the would nurse and the vac thing keeps the bad tissue from reinfecting the wound. I don't know the best answer for Fran but I wonder if your stress would be reduced, I don't think I could do what you have to do in order to keep her wound clean. I hope she heals very very quickly!
Marilyn- you are always cleaning! I need to but if I move any more stuff onto my front porch we will look like Ma and Pa Kettle :rotfl:
Jen- I want pics of your doily stuff! I am not creative right now but doily things to me a little things. Petite fours, pecan tassies, baby little napoleons, stuff like that.
PIO- Feel better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Buddy's mom is very bad. :sad2: i am heading there in a little while. She is getting pain med every three hours as well as whenever for breakthrough pain. ativan every 8 hours and whenever she needs it. She has a fever that will not come down even with around the clock Tylenol. Please pray.
Nancy I missed this in all the confusion of the boards.... Hugs my friend and prayers are coming.
update **** Nancy I am so sorry I just saw your update. Our condolences, if there is anything you need please let us know.
I had some garlic that was not going to last until I got back from Vegas so I sliced it very thin, and cooked it at 155 derees for 3.5 hours and then ground it up in my spice grinder and it was garlic powder and David said that it was vway more pungent than the normal stuff...
Not really. :rolleyes1 My ambition is just that, ambition. :rotfl:
Marilyn - your house must be spotless!
:sad2: No, think hoarder house lite. ;) I have too much stuff in a smaller space that really needs to go, I just never get as much done as I think about doing.
Morning my foodie friends.
Sorry I have been gone for awhile, but I have been playing Nanny!! And I love it!! Stephanie and Marty called on Tuesday and asked if I could come and spend a few days with them. YES - of course!! So I cleared my desk and was there Wednesday afternoon and stayed till Sunday. She is breastfeeding and was a bit overwhelmed. By the time I left on Sunday she felt a LOT more at ease and things were running smoothly. They will be wonderful parents......they were just a bit scared and not knowing what to do - when. They will be just fine. I had a great time and I thourghly loved being with them.
Thanks for all of the PMs and good thoughts for the weather this weekend. WOW, it was horrible. Have I said before how I HATE this kind of weather. We got lots of hail, wind and over 2" of rain. There were tornados all around us but nothing where I live. Thank Goodness. In Lincoln (where Matthew is) they were out of electricity most of Saturday and the Red and White Spring game was cancelled. Scary scary times and we are just into April. OH MY!!!!
WFDT ~ Orange glazed Salmon, brussel sprouts, beet chips and a spinach salad.
Make it a great day everyone!! Now I will go back and catch up with all of you........I will be back!!
Nancy - My prayers are with you and Buddy at this time. I know that this is hard, with everything going on. Please tell Buddy, that I am sending lots of love and pixie dust from Utah. He will do what is right for his mother. Too bad her own daughter won't. Let me know if there's anything I can do from this side of the country.
Well, our spring break is over, and we are trying to get back to normal. Unfortunately, my kids counted up, and we have 33 days of school left. This has given them a severe case of spring fever! I hope we make it through!
Dinner tonight will be meatloaf, some kind of green vegetable, and au gratin potatoes... I think. I need to see if I still have some potatoes lying around. If not, it will be rice.
Have a great day, everyone!
Wow, I have just now been able to get back in here.
Nan ~ Oh sweetie, I am so very sorry for your loss. My prayers and heart go out to you & Buddy and your family. I so hope that the SIL does the right thing now. I don't think she will but I know Bud will!! Prayers my friend. Hugs (they have messed with the smilies again and I don't see the hug one)
PIO ~ so glad you are feeling better. I can't wait to see your pictures of Hong Kong.
Brandi ~ Safe travels my friend. Are you going to be able to have some fun in Vegas or is this all business?
Alison ~ My kuddos to you. You are one great person to take such good care of Fran. I hope you were able to ekk out a bit of fun in Vegas. Safe travels home.
Jen ~ I so hope your family is starting to feel better. I just hate it when one of my babies (Doug included) is sick.
Glynis ~ How is your Dad feeling? I have sure been keeping him close.
33 days of school left - OH MY!!! Summer will be here before we know it.
Marilyn ~ Do you rent out? I could sure use a good cleaning at my house. With all of the grandbabies I have played way too much. My house is really starting to show my absence.
Becky ~ Good to see you and your wonderful food porn my friend.
Lindsay ~ Hi!!
Hugs and love to all the rest!! (again WTH happened to my smiley?)
That sounds great and easy! I should try it!
:sad2: No, think hoarder house lite. ;) I have too much stuff in a smaller space that really needs to go, I just never get as much done as I think about doing.
I I know ALL about that! :rotfl:
Sorry I have been gone for awhile, but I have been playing Nanny!! And I love it!!
I'm sure the time will just flyby in no time!
WFD? A better question is where will dinner be? We are still in the hotel room in Vegas. Fran is fast asleep and we have a 275 mile drive home, and the nurse is supposed to come change her dressing tonight.
I see fast food in our future!
Marilyn ~ Do you rent out? I could sure use a good cleaning at my house. With all of the grandbabies I have played way too much. My house is really starting to show my absence.
Sure! I am much better at cleaning other people's houses then doing my own. :thumbsup2
