The What's For Dinner Thread - November '09(recipe index in OP)

Popping in to wish everyone a MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!! I hope Santa brought everyone what they wanted. I got what I wanted; two very happy kids!! :goodvibes I'm enjoying getting everyone's Christmas cards! So fun to check the mail!:santa::santa:

Kathy--

Becky--made the Balsamic Dijon Roasted Chicken for dinner tonight and it might become a Xmas tradition at my house. So easy and yummy!

I hope that all of you had a wonderful Christmas Day. I saw that there were a few moments that detracted  and worry that my friends are not too sad over them.

We also had a nice day but Buddy and I agree that we like the day after Christmas better. I think the kids are all coming over today as well as our good friends down the street. I have nothing to do but drag out leftovers.

I am a bit if a control freak but Buddy put his foot down yesterday and vacuumed and washed the floors for me. THank goodness he did, and I was a little too flustered to argue too much. He said hamburgers next year!

BBL to hear from all of you and enjoy your Christmas day with you!:grouphug::grouphug:

Good morning!

I got up early so I could go to Walmart. I have next year's Christmas cards already put away in their designated location, just waiting for next Christmas! :cool1:

Yesterday we had turkey and mashed potatoes.

And we have a lot of turkey leftovers. I think turkey panini is in the future too. Oh, AND that Outback dinner I STILL have not had! We have a $5 off coupon that expires on the 31st, plus we have a $25 gift card, so we should have a nice meal for $30 less than normal! :dance3:

I hope everybody has a great day!

It is snowing big time here. I am so glad I went out to shovel earlier. :rolleyes1

I think this will be a great soup day. Maybe I'll make some bread too.

We had a nice quiet Christmas here. Alex and I played Risk. I learned I'll never conquer the world. Alex however is very good at it.

I'll have to get and share the pork roast recipe I made yesterday, it is definitely a keeper. I'll have to get Food and Wine magazine, since I keep finding great recipes on their website.

Bethany - Edi did a great job!!!!!

Leftovers are on the menu today. Planning New Years menus now so I can grocery shop later.

MIL is hating the nursing home and it's so hard to watch.

Good morning everyone! Today is a laze around the house kind of day, minus the lazy part. My brother and his family are coming today, so we need to clean a bit for them. Not too bad, though.

Dinner last night was so good! I cooked a glazed ham, and we had green beans with lemon chiffon sauce, sweet potato casserole, homemade cran-apple sauce, and an eggnog gelatin that was a flop. It tasted good, but didn't ever set up like it was supposed to. It was more like eggnog pudding than gelatin. Still, my kids liked it, so that was a bonus! Leftovers are on tap for us. We will finish up the ham, and the baked potato soup we had on Christmas eve. Guess I'll have to venture to the grocery store later to stock up on food for my brother's visit. Oh well, guess I can't stay in my jammies 2 days in a row, right?

Merry Christmas - the day after - all of my good friends.

We all were together in spite of the most terrible ground blizzard I have ever seen. And we have seen a few. We have 10 - 12' drifts and snow and ice everywhere. But it was good at the times we needed it to be so everyone got here and home safely. PTL!!

I want to share our Christmas story - It dawned on Doug and I that with J not home that Elizabeth wouldn't have anything from Santa or in her stocking. I called her and told her not to question me but after Ethan went to bed to give us a call and to leave her front door open. D & I played Santa and had a ball!! Oh the magic of a 5 year old lives on!! Christmas morning as they were getting ready to go see what Santa brought J got on Skype and was able to be there to see Ethan open his gifts. Isn't technology wonderful? As we sat down to dinner he was also there for our prayers. And we got to talk to him through out the day. He got some neat pictures of Christmas in Iraq. I will post them on FB, if I can figure out how to do it. But all in all a very very nice day.

Santa was very good to me even though we WEREN'T doing presents. We are going sking in a few days as our present. I got an Ipod touch. I can't wait to get it all set up and working. How cool is that? I have wanted one like forever.

WFDT ~ LEFTOVERS - h e l l o!! LOL

I am headed out to go see if there is anything on sale that I just can't live without. :rotfl:

Maria ~ my heart just literally broke for Greg. I hope you somehow had a nice day in spite of them.

Good morning everyone! The past couple of days went relatively well, even if all my relatives didn't act very well. :rotfl: Anyway, it's over.

Today I'm still sitting here in my nightgown trying to get motivated to get things done. However, Kenny has just sat down and turned on the TV to those political commentators he likes to sit and scream at, so that may get me up and in the shower.

Well, this afternoon, we are taking Mom to Charleston for a movie and dinner.

Hi Everyone,

I never got the chance to pop on here yesterday to wish you a merry Christmas. I hope everyone had a nice day. We did. The kids were happy with their gifts, all the food I made was good and well-received, and we enjoyed the time with family and friends.

I spent most of the day cooking, so today I am mostly just lazing about. I eventually will have to get out of my pajamas, since Greg and I are going out to dinner this evening, but I figure I have a couple more hours. :)

Have a great day!

The gloom is still lingering~

I'll be checking back to hear some Christmas stories.

It's a pj day & lasagna I made for my inlaws:sad2:

He did a great job but it's upside down:upsidedow

That was intentional. ;) He said he read online somewhere that if you cook it upside down, it stays moist better. I don't know how true this is, but it wasn't dry!

Maria -

Kathy -

Ellen, I was thinking about you yesterday, wondering if you had power.

Hello friends:goodvibes

I am glad to see that for the most part everyone had a nice day!! I am sure we all had our moments of sadness, stress, and being overwhelmed...part of the holidays it seems;)

We had a nice morning just the 3 of us. Then around 10ish the outlaws showed up, and a half hour later Kris' grandparents. It was ummm interesting with the outlaws...they had come over Christmas eve for pizza and games (Ross invited them:scared1:) they were obviously not getting along...which proceeded to make for an interesting evening, and then Christmas morning it was made very clear that they were still arguing. My poor fil.....Kris' stepmother is such a (b)witch! She is honestly insane!! Kris and I didn't let it ruin our day, we just sort of chuckled at it all.

I talked to my dad last night and he was happy with the gifts we sent him, but I think he was more pleased that we sent something to "her" as well. I went back and forth on sending her anything, and in the end my gut said to do it. We just got her a very nice (from Sam's club) gift basket with Godiva chocolates and crackers and spreads etc. She loved it and was very touched.
My dad has something special for Ross (some silver coin he went to the coin shop to get him) he is going to give it to him in person when we are there next month.

We went to see my Gram at the nursing home around 3:30. I had made her a bulletin board with photos scrapbooked on it of my brother and her family and Kris, Ross and I. She was very touched. I also got her a stuffed dog that when you pat his head he barks and wags his tail. She and her 103yo roommate loved it. It was so cute.

Last night when we got home...the 3 of us teamed up and got the house cleaned and all inside and outside decoartions were taken down and put away!! I love Christmas and all, but hate getting up on the 26th and seeing the decoarations.:upsidedow

Kat--I am so sorry that dmil is not happy being in the nursing home. It is so sad and hard to watch. My gram doesn't love it, but knows that there is no other option. She has good days and bad. Some days just break my heart when she is homesick. I am here if you need to talk or vent on it!!
Other then that I hope you had a nice day with Kyle being home!

Ellen--Your story of playing Santa brought tears to my eyes and warmed my heart. I am so glad that you were able to Skype with Jay. Glad the storm wasn't as bad as it could have been!

Maria-- I don't even know what to say, except I love you! Good things are headed your way my friend...it is all about Karma and Lord knows you deserve it!!

Gretchen--I am glad your day went well, I know how hard it must have been. Enjoy the movie and dinner with Mom!!

Laura--I am glad you had such a nice day. The kids must be so happy to have Greg home for the holiday!! Enjoy the night out with your hubby!!

Nancy--I am glad that Buddy put his foot down you can't do everything! We too like the day after better! I understand the coffee on the throws..Kris' grandfather spilled his cup of tea all across my living room as he was walking and when his wife pointed it out he said "oh its ok their carpet is beige so it doesn't show" I had to laugh as it was so darned cute the way he said it. (I have spot cleaned it, but will wash the carpet next week, lol)

Janice--I am glad you had a nice day!! I loathe the game of Risk!!

Hmmm I think I missed a bunch...:confused3 My mind is :rolleyes1 as Kris and Ross are playing a racing game in the family room and they keep yelling, I love to hear them having fun...but totally lose my train of thought, lol.

I am going to go play with my Kindle..Kris got my some Amazon gift cards to go with it. Lunch is leftovers from yesterday and supper is Chinese food!

I will be back to see how everyone's day is going later on!:grouphug:

I am just back in from shoveling for the third time today. I have no idea how much just more than 6 inches and it is still coming down in droves.

Maria I am glad they are coming in tomorrow and not trying to today. I here there are lots of cancellations at OHare.

Wendie Sorry your family can't behave for 1 one day.

Ellen I am so glad you got to talk with Jay. Better yet to play santa for Ethan. You are making very good memories.

I just looked I am running dangerously low on Diet Coke :scared1: I'll have to borrow some from my neighbors to hold me over till tomorrow. I am not going out driving in this stuff even for diet coke.;)

My pot of beef barley is on the stove and smells wonderful.

Quick fly by, popping in to say I received cards from Janice and Laura today. Thanks y'all!

I'll be checking back to hear some Christmas stories

I have one for you. My dsis, as I think told you all, went with her family on a cruise last week. She got everything bought, wrapped and put under the tree before they left. Yesterday morning the girls actually slept in and at about 8:30 my sister was in the kitchen when she hear's something and goes in to find the 6yo standing in front of the tree looking a little upset, seems Santa forgot to leave presents. :rotfl:

But all was not lost, Santa simply filled the empty packages that were already under the tree. :thumbsup2

That was intentional. ;) He said he read online somewhere that if you cook it upside down, it stays moist better. I don't know how true this is, but it wasn't dry!

That's because the fat in the turkey drips down through the breast as opposed to going through the parts most people don't eat, like the back. :thumbsup2

Had a good day yesterday, didn't get up until late and then went to my aunts for dinner. At first we weren't sure we were going anywhere because they were calling for freezing rain but it ended up being just plain nasty rain.

Tonight for dinner we had seafood, crablegs, lobster tail and shrimp.

Tomorrow we are going to have Christmas with my sister and her family in VA.
