The What's For Dinner Thread - November '09(recipe index in OP)

Holy Moly, that is brassy!

That's a much better way of saying it than I was going to. ;) Seriously Michelle, I agree with Nancy. And with a young child, I would have never returned the gifts after I bought them. At the risk of sounding like my grandmother, what is the world coming to?

I escaped the house tonight... it was probably too soon but I needed OUT. I put on real clothes, put a ballcap on, and we went to Logan's Roadhouse for dinner. It was delicious and it was so nice to get out in the real world again. I'm completely spent but it was worth it. Tomorrow I'm going to venture to the library for a quick trip (with DH of course) if I feel up to it. I want to get some TV series on DVD to watch.

I'm so glad you got out and that you did ok. I'm sure you did have cabin fever. I would have by now.

Yes. Some schools take 3 days and some take the full week. I don't know of any in the area that have school. The party goes to midnight tonight, so peopel need tomorrow to recover.

Honestly, if I partied like some I've seen in Mardi Gras shows and pictures, I'd need more than one day to recover. But the sad truth is that at my age, the party might go to midnight, but I couldn't go to midnight. Have fun.

Lauren - Take care of yourself. I'm thinking of you and praying for you.

Laura - Did Caili get to watch the rest of the skating?

I'm not sure what we are doing for dinner tonight. I can't decide between pasta or beef.

I would not have returned the gift either. I try to buy what the kids want but if I had done that and was then told to bring it back....then depending on my mood I would have either just went with what I bought or ...returned it. Period.

Years ago when one of Buddy's nephews was little he opened a gift I had purchased and tossed it on the floor..."This is garbage." Mom and Dad did nothing so I picked it up and told him I was sorry he felt that way and put the gift on my lap. He freaked out. Everyone is looking at me like I was an ogre, except Buddy. He just waited so I told the boy that I would let it go this time but that was his one free ride. If it ever happened again he would say goodby to the present adn know that he would not get more from me. :sad2:

It is snowing her, very pretty today. I think i am going to use up what I have here so we'll see what I can turn leftovers into.

Good Morning All

Aimee- glad your healing well. Going stir crazy is a good sign. Means your feeling better.

Bethany- you have fun at the parades and all the parties.

Sheryl and Kat- have fun at Disney sorry its crowded for you all.

Lauren- glad you could stop in hope things are going well with both houses.

Sorry I haven't been here much. Kinda helping out with my cousin she is 30 weeks preggo had to have invitro to get peggers now in in hospital with major pain. They have been doing test and now they are doing surgery today. Her parents are 1500 miles away in FL til mid March and she has a 3 year old. Also having test of m own. Hospital seems like second home (yuck)

:grouphug:to all and Have a great day all.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Zachy and I made pink pancakes this morning too, although I'm not as creative as Glynis and did not think of strawberry milk:)

Dinner last night was pizza. I'm making a lemon chicken orzo soup for dinner tonight. Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend and loved ones!

Don't think I'm too creative! It started years ago when I spotted strawberry Quik on the store shelves, and now my kids remind me days before Valentine's day. I just wasn't feeling the creative vibe this holiday. I'll get better! My favorite, St. Patrick's Day is coming up! Of course, I have to put off the corned beef and cabbage because my "dear husband" (and I use the term loosely) signed us both up for a 5K run on St. Patrick's day. Guess I need to get off my behind and start running again! Grrr. Wish he'd told me before yesterday!

Feeling better today? You must have the same thing I have had, and it is not fun. I loved all those big kisses and hugs I got but paying the piper is the pits. I have been taking Robitussin CF daytime and have not been too foggy. If you can find it you may feel better, it is hard to take care of teh little one when you struggle to stay focused.

I'm much better, now! I slept most of Valentine's Day away! Alan took the kids to church and let me sleep! Great Valentine!!!

After our Valentine's dinner, the kids put on a "play" for us. It was all based on Charlie Brown comics and tv specials. It was really cute!

By the way, if anyone is interested in a totally yummy, easy side dish Pioneer Woman's Hot Crash Potatoes are just the thing! Oh my goodness! I could have eaten every single one by myself!!!

Im here...I didnt win the Lotto and run away and forget youse.

Ive just got a stinking cold with looks to be headin to my chest !! :sad1:

Im PO because the boy is on holiday and I have the rest of the week off.

Bloody typical.

I just wanted to let youse know my wee nephew is back and fighting fit.:woohoo:

Thank you all for your thoughts and concern...love youse.

/
Vickie - I'm so glad that your nephew is doing well!!!! He's still in my prayers!! Sorry about your cold. I feel your pain. We've been trading the cold around in my house. Wish it would find another family to "love."

Gretchen - I love the Hailey story!!! I'm with her!! I don't even like to watch it, anymore! I love the See's butterscotch suckers. Do you have a store close to you? If not, let me know. We have one about 10 minutes from my house in any direction, so I can hook you up!

Aimee - Take it easy!!! Baby steps, on getting out of the house, please!!! Glad you enjoyed your dinner out, though!

Maria - How is your mouth feeling? I'm thinking about you a lot lately, and hope you are well!!!

Bethany - Have fun with Mardi Gras! I don't know how people can party like that and recover in a few hours! Guess my age is showing!

Nancy - I'm so glad that Welby has your house to escape to! I remember those frazzled feelings during the pregnancy. Ick!!!

Lauren - Good to see you! Take it easy, and do the packing in small stages! Did I miss a mention of your house selling, or is that still in the air?

Michelle - Wow!!! I can't believe the nerve of some people! You are a better person then I am, to return the gifts! I wouldn't have!

Dinner tonight will be a butter chicken recipe that I got from a link on the pioneer woman site. Hope it's good! It sounds good to me, but I can hear the kids complain about the spice now. Oh, well. It's good for them to expand their palate, right???

I've got to run to the store to pick up stuff for dinner, and stuff for my cub scout den meeting today. It's our last week to work on the artist badge, and today they are doing sculpture. They are going to sculpt using tinfoil, and then sculpt using clay. If we still have to fill some time, I'm going to have them start on a small mosaic, using torn bits of construction paper. I've been worried about dealing with 10, 10 year olds, but they are really good boys!

Good morning my friends.

I'm here but not in very good shape. Let's just say it has been a l o n g weekend.

I have a tooth ache!! It started Friday morning, and of course my dentist is off on Fridays. Ibuprofen is my friend. Kept me up all night, so at 11 I get to go to the dentist. Yea!! NOT!! I LOATH the dentist, but right now if he can take the pain away I will go.

WFDT ~ right now I have no idea, it will depend on how I feel. Probably just breakfast for dinner. Scrambled eggs and muffins sound pretty good and soft.

Make it a great day my friends. I am way behind and I will try to catch up later today. If not, please know my prayers are with you all. Love ya!!

Vick, no disappearing please. Sorry you are sick. Fell better quickly, the week is still early.

Nan, I may have never given the gift back. His gift days would be over.
The snow is beautiful here as well. We have about 3 inches & it looks like we are headed for 6. Greg is in upstate NY for the day so I'm a little worried about him driving home & DM has to drive to work....

Lauren, I have been praying for you.
Can't believe how quick the new house in moving along.....

Glynis, glad your feeling better.

Becky, the pasta is beautiful.

Dinner last night was the lobster & it was delicious!!!!!! The lobsters were so big no sides needed. :lovestruc Dessert was chocolate covered strawberries.

Tonight dinner is filet wrapped in bacon...not sure about the sides. bbl

Vickie & Ellen, get well my friends.

Maria, glad you enjoyed your dinner with Greg. ;)

Lauri (LBKB)...sure your cousin appreciates you more than you know. You have seen to many hospitals lady!

Lauren, the house is just beautiful. I cna't believe the progress.

Thinking of Sheryl and Kat, daily wishing I were them. Hope they are having a ball.

--------
WFD-Salisbury steak (new recipe), mashed, corn, and garlic bread.
---------

:flower3:Have a great day worthy of each of you!!!!!:flower3:

Oh Ellen, that stinks. I have my oral surgery tomorrow to cut the ligaments around a tooth that has been giving me so much pain.
When are you going to the dentist?

I'm sorry for you and your cousin, but I'm so glad she has you close by. I know that makes it easier on her and on her parents! I hope your test goes well.

That seems to be my luck too dear. I hope it goes away quickly so you can enjoy the rest of the week.

Thank you so very much for the offer. I really appreciate it, but my sister lives close to a couple too. And she says she is able to use Hailey as a convenient excuse to stop in and get a piece or two for herself. However, if she ever moves someplace else without a See's nearby, you may have to become Hailey's supply pipeline. Now that she has become addicted to them, I don't see her giving those suckers up without a fight. ;)

Ellen, I'm so sorry. Tooth pain is miserable. I hope he is able to fix it quickly.

Thinking of Sheryl and Kat, daily wishing I were them. Hope they are having a ball.

Me too. I have to admit I've been wondering where they are during the day and wishing I was there. Our trip seems like a long time away.

Oh Ellen, that stinks. I have my oral surgery tomorrow to cut the ligaments around a tooth that has been giving me so much pain.
When are you going to the dentist?

Maria, I had no idea you were still suffering through your tooth troubles. :scared1: What is tomorrow supposed to bring? Relief? How much recovery do they tell you to expect?

Ellen Sorry the tooth pain has hit you too.

Maria I thought your tooth issues were done. Sorry to hear you aren't done yet

Vickie I hope you get well so you can spend some good time with your son.

Gretchen How is Jessica?

Lauri I hope your cousin is ok:hug: Hopefully your test goes well

Michelle I at a loss I never heard of want list for gifts only a wish list. The wish list is only mentioned if the person giving requests it. I am sorry you experienced this

I hope I haven't missed anyone. I'll be back later

Glynis- I had a moment of insanity and signed up for the Disney half marathon this coming January. I am such a non-runner so I REALLY need to get off my behind and start running.

Vickie- feel better

Ellen- you too!

Maria- Sorry you're still having tooth problems.

My SIL is in rare form with the gifts this year. She's married to Mike's brother. Well she told her kids she's get my MIL to buy them healeys for their birthdays. My MIL said "we'll see, I already had something in mind for each of you." My SIL apparently said "oh I thought your grandma might want to buy you something you actually want for once" and stormed out of the restaurant with the kids. The reason I know this story is my SIL told me herself trying to convince me how horrible my MIL is. Unfortunately she didn't get the sympathy she was looking for from me.

Dinner tonight will be the fish taco salad I didn't make last night. I just got back from jury duty. I feel so bad because there's no reason for me not to serve except for the fact that I have no one to watch Zachy the rest of the week. I was questioned for two cases and each one was estimating 3-4 days. I worked as an attorney until Zachy was born and I know how important it is to the system to have people serve. Just feeling bad that I couldn't do my part.

Michelle -- I hope your SIL's children are better behaved than their mother. Either they must be or you are a much better person than I am. As for jury duty, you have the most important job in the world right now. There will be other opportunities to serve.

Nancy -- I would have done exactly the same thing you did with your nephew. I think there was one time when Liam did or said something rude about a gift (I can't remember the specifics) and I was horrified. I told him if he ever did that again, I would tell everyone not to get him anything.

Lauri -- I hope all goes well for your cousin. Good luck with your test!

Of course, I have to put off the corned beef and cabbage because my "dear husband" (and I use the term loosely) signed us both up for a 5K run on St. Patrick's day. Guess I need to get off my behind and start running again! Grrr. Wish he'd told me before yesterday!

He only told you yesterday?? Are you looking for freezer space? I would be.

Ellen and Maria -- I hope you both get relief soon. Good luck at the dentist.

Gretchen -- I did find the skating for Caili. NBC has been putting events on their Olympics page, so she was able to watch everything. Good thing! They haven't been as good about putting the events in the On Demand feature.

Aimee -- I'm glad you were able to get out for a little while. Don't push yourself too much though.

It is just me and Caili for dinner tonight because Liam is skiing and then going to my parents' house. It was Liam's first time skiing, so I hope he liked it. Dinner is meatball sub for me and whatever Caili wants. Now we have to head out in the snow and go to skating.

Tooth pain is the worst pain I think I've ever had. I hope the dentist can help

Oh Ellen, that stinks. I have my oral surgery tomorrow to cut the ligaments around a tooth that has been giving me so much pain.
When are you going to the dentist?

OUCH! I hope you are soon feeling no pain as well

Don't feel bad - maybe once he's in school you will be able to serve sometime. I have never served and would love to :goodvibes

Ellen, hope your mouth is feeling better after a trip to the dentist.

Michelle, not having child care is a good reason not to serve on a jury. Your chance will come around again....it always does!

Dinner for me is a meatball sub. Laura and I made a batch together on Sunday (again from the Batali book), so we will have to report back on what we thought.

My office lost power today for around four hours. It was pretty boring! None of us had anything to do without computer access, so we all just sat around and read the paper or chatted. Everyone was jealous of my laptop lunchbox today. They all had frozen dinners and no way to heat them up. I did share some stuff, and we had leftover cheese, crackers, cookies, and pretzels in our kitchen from a TGIF gathering we had here Friday, so nobody starved. Here's my lunchbox:

Nancy, note the chocolate in the top right corner. That is because today is my Monday! John did have chocolate yesterday, he got a dark chocolate covered orange marzipan, and two sea salt caramels. The chocolate is always in the top right corner. But only on Mondays (or Tuesday, in this one instance).

Dinner was dropped off a few minutes ago - looks like a delicious beef and vegetable soup with noodles. YUM! She also brought cornbread and dessert. So nice! It's a big batch so I should be able to have leftovers for lunch and maybe to freeze.

Today is Fat Tuesday and I'm not celebrating with pancakes like usual. I can't believe Ash Wednesday is tomorrow! I don't think you can "love" a service like Ash Wednesday but it really is one of my favorite services of the year... I thought about dragging myself up there but really don't think I can. Darn. I also haven't decided what to give up yet. I wanted to just give up 50 cm of intestine and my appendix but I think that's cheating =)

With what you gals have been dealing with my tooth issue is nothing. Part 1 of the tooth issue (Chicago break) is repaired. Part 2 is a nightmare. I had a root canal last year.....no problems. I have had tooth pain off & on for about 4 months & the last month 24/7, the ligament around the root canal is very swollen and needs to be cut tomorrow. Hopefully the pain will go away at that point.
Hey, maybe I loose a few pounds:thumbsup2
I've decided that besides being fat I'm now going bald so it's time for the Endocrinologist I'm very overdue for this visit.

Michelle, when I was called for jury duty the judge didn't refuse any Mom because of child care. It is a very valid reason.

Janice, holding you close. I'm so sorry about your friends. You are all in my prayers.

We're up to 6 inches of snow....
