The What's For Dinner Thread - November '09(recipe index in OP)

Maria - Are you home now? Will you be going back to Chicago? How's the tooth doing?

I am home!!!! Content to be with Greg & Lily!
I'm scheduled for the dentist tomorrow & they have several hours set aside for me....Ugh!
I'm so sorry that your kids are having so much illness.....it must be so hard on the entire family:grouphug:

Kat, dinner sounds delicious....

Bethany have fun painting.

Dinner here is corned beef & cabbage...

Hey y'all,

Lauren, You are constantly in my thoughts. I have & will continue to pray for you, Jim and the whole family.

Glynis, Darn! You just can't get a break! Poor Leslie. I am glad to hear that Timothy is doing so well! That is just great, that the rattle in the chest is gone! I was quite worried about your littlest one!

Maria, Glad you are home! How are you feeling?

Nancy, How did your pizza come out? Did Kady enjoy making it?

Bethany, You're a good friend. I hope you & your friend have a nice time.

Kathy, Your dinner sounds yummy.

Has Vickie or Gretchen checked in lately?

We had leftovers yesterday. A late breakfast this morning. DH wants to take A out to dinner & church later. I said yes, but it's cold & I'd rather just stay home in my pj's. We'll see.

Well, I thought we were out of the woods, as Friday came and went without anyone new getting sick. Then, yesterday morning, Leslie began running a temperature again.

Augh, I hope she doesn't share  I'm sure it's hard to keep illness contained to one or two family members, esp in the winter when you're stuck at home so much!

I hate the dentist, but I bet you have some relief after you see them. I hope! Glad you're home safe :goodvibes

Tonight is a church dinner I have to host at... it's for new/prospective members and we have a great group signed up. If I can take enough Vicodin to feel okay, it should be fun  I didn't sleep well last night so I hope to get in a nap beforehand. DH is going to eat leftovers for dinner - that gumbo made a TON so he can eat off that.

I forgot to mention that your gumbo recipe sounds pretty darn good & easy! I've never heard of that okra recipe, but that looks good too. We usually put the okra into the gumbo & then eat it with plain rice. Just a little different version, but together it all sounds pretty authentic.

Don't push yourself too hard!

Maria glad your back home safe and sound. Hope the dentist goes ok.

Just poppin' in....

I'm annoyed at myself that I didn't get up until 9....again 2 and a half hours later than I was planning to. :headache:

I am meeting someone today to paint pottery. Her husband is getting deployed soon; he is still in the states for training but will be gone until about the end of February. When I called her yesterday, she said she could sleep all day on the weekends because she "has no reason to get up." :sad2: So, we are going painting! It should be fun. :thumbsup2

Bethany you must have needed the extra sleep (good for you)
your such a good friend going with your friend to paint.

Well, I thought we were out of the woods, as Friday came and went without anyone new getting sick. Then, yesterday morning, Leslie began running a temperature again. She spent most of the day sleeping, very lethargic. At about 2:30 this morning, Mary came into my room, woke me up and informed me that Leslie was crying. I went to their room, and Leslie was burning up! Her eyes were glassy, and her cheeks were bright red. Poor little thing! She told me that her ear hurt. I gave her some of the ear drops the doctor prescribed for Mary, and a dose of Mary's antibiotic. Some Tylenol for the fever/pain, and then we all tried to go back to sleep. Within a half an hour, though, she was in our bed, still burning up. I got a cool washcloth for her forehead, and turned our ceiling fan on. She finally dropped back to sleep at about 3:30. Of course, I couldn't sleep at all, so tossed and turned, listening to Alan snore, and Leslie whimper in her sleep. Finally at 6:00 I got up for the day. Hopefully, I'll be able to sneak a nap in later today.

I'd like to try to hold off on taking Leslie to the doctor until Monday morning, as the ER co-pay is ridiculous! Since Mary and Leslie are exactly the same weight, they can share a prescription, until I can get the doctor to write another one. He's very understanding about this kind of stuff with the twins.

On the up side, Timothy is getting so much better every minute! He hasn't had to go to the hospital since Thursday! His eyes are clear, no fever, and you can't hear his breath rattle in his lungs anymore. Of course, all the medications have given him a pretty case of diaper rash, but that's easily handled! Desitin is my friend!!!

Katie's play was so cute! I was so proud of her. She looked so grown up on the stage, that I almost cried when I saw her. What happened to my baby???

Glynis so sorry to hear about all the sickness praying they all get well quicklyand health and patience or you:hug:

So kady and I made a pizza and it is in the oven now. We'll see how it comes out.

Nancy was the pizza good?

Laura and Becky hope you have a good sunday lunch.

Lauren know your in my prayers and thoughts

Lauren, I am so, so sorry about your Mom. I have been off the computer all weekend and would not have known except Laura told me when she came over for linner.

Here are photos of dinner from the weekend. Friday I made pizza (no photos), John got home on time but he was not able to sleep on the plane so had been awake for 26 hours by the time he got here...

Saturday I made chicken for John. I did not eat that because he fell asleep on the couch (jet lag) and so dinner was two hours later than I had planned. Here is my plate, we had broccolini, and I made myself a mushroom omelet, we both had hashed brown potatoes.

Actually, this is John's box...he gets slightly larger portions than I do. And, I add a chobani yogurt in the morning. See the chocolate in the top right? That's because tomorrow is a Monday.

Becky, I told you TSA picks you because of what you are packing in that laptop box is illegal!!!!:lmao:

Lauren, sending prayers for Jim and his family. Continued love and prayers as you grieve your DM.

Maria, good luck at the dentist. I hope your visit is painless.

Aimee, please don't push yourself like the others said.

Ellen, how did Elizabeth make out with the laptop? Jay is always in my prayers.

Prayers for all the sick WFD kids.

I have never had to take anything, but I may have to try Midol. When it is at it's worst I have been taking the prescription of Motrin I have left from the hospital. But those are for when I am desperate.

Maria - Good luck at the dentist tomorrow my friend. I'm also going but as a preventive measure, want them to take a good look and make sure nothing's erupting before I leave next week.

Ann - Hope you're feeling better soon.

Ladies, the Pioneer Woman's recipe for braised short ribs is a definite keeper. Johnny moaned so much, well never mind, you get the idea.......;)

ETA: I spoke with Lauren for a good while this evening, she sounds pretty good.

Thanks Kathy for the Lauren update.

So I walked 8 miles at the park and then went to go paint. I am tired now.

I had a good day today. :thumbsup2 I hope the rest of you did too. :grouphug:

Aimee- I hope you're holding up OK

Maria- Good luck at the dentist tomorrow!

Ann- yuck, I hope you can find some relief.

Becky- those pictures look amazing. The cod looks similar to a dish I make with the same ingredients but mine looks nothing like that!

Kathy- thanks for updating us on Lauren.

Glynis- hope your kiddos are on the mend!

We let Zachy choose what he wanted to do today and he picked Rainforest Cafe. Its an hour away but we had nothing else to do anyways. I only had soup there and a bit of Mike's fish tacos, I really wasn't that hungry for lunch. Dinner tonight was a 3 bean and vegetable chili.

Hi All! I am sorry that I never got on today, I helped my Sis IL clean out a spare room. Marisa and Kady came. Marisa is really good at tossing things so she was a welcome addition. We ate all teh wrong things...Taco Bell for me and a lot of it!

Maria- Welcome home! I am sorry it took so long to get back to you, Fill you in later! Good luck at the dentist

Glynis- your poor family just cannot catch a break. I would call and see if the Dr will phone in a script. Hope that tomorrow is better for all of you

Bethany- it was so nice talking to you!

Ann- take something! No need to be in pain

Becky- I agree with Ann- the TSA want food!

Our pizza was okay. Kady made a miniscule one that I think should have been tough she rolled and stretched it so much but she declared it was excellent. Ours was okay. The crust rose like crazy so next time I will make it way thinner.

See you all tomorrow!

That's a little TMI there Kat! :rotfl:

Dinner tonight was Greek Chicken livers, peas w/pearl onions and mushrooms and chicken and dumplings. Don't ask, my DM made dinner. :confused3 Back to cooking the healthy stuff myself tomorrow.

Went to work for a little while today, going to be out for most of the day for and since I didn't really get anything done Friday I am WAY behind. Did get a big project out of the way thankfully though.

Shouldn't you post that on the NOLA thread too? :lmao::rotfl::rotfl2::laughing:
I am SO GLAD I did not have a drink in my mouth when I read that! :faint:

I am watching the Grammy Awards.

Did you know they give awards to high school bands too? My high school won one in either my junior or senior year. :thumbsup2

I just mixed the okra/rice/bacon stuff into the gumbo because that's how the picture had it  It was really tasty.

The only time I've had braised ribs they were very fatty, so I haven't had them since. Are they typically fatty? They always sound so good... in theory... I'd love to try her recipe.

The dinner went okay, but the people were so happy they didn't want to leave  I finally snuck out around 930.

Maria, prayers XoXo

Lauren, continued prayers.

DH has his long work day today...so dinner is just cheeseburgers & chips.

I am heading to my parents. DM wants me to take her shopping.

Good morning. Dinner here will be pork chops, israeli couscous, and roasted brussel spouts. Not sure how I will cook the pork chops yet. Have a great day!

WOOHOO!! I am connected. Wow, I really missed you all and now have to play the catch up game. But until then -

Kind of a quiet weekend here. Doug was on call so we had to stick close to home. Some of the kids were sick, Matthew went hunting all weekend and the others were working. We went to Basketball games all day Saturday. Church on Sunday and got all of my chores fininshed so I was even able to sit a read for a bit. My kind of weekend.

It is snowing and burrrrrrr cold here this morning and AGAIN really gloomy. But for today I will not whine. Wouldn't do any good if I did. :lmao:

WFDT ~ Lazagna, garlic bread with a spinach salad.

I will BBL!!
