The What's For Dinner Thread - November '09(recipe index in OP)

Aimee - Yes, short ribs are typically fatty. I was able to pick out some really nice ones and they were awesome. But definitely a dish I would only have occasionally.

WFD - White beans & rice, grilled Italian sausages.

Maria -- Good luck at the dentist today.

Ann -- I hope you are feeling better.

Kathy -- Thanks for the update on Lauren.

Glynis -- I hope everyone is starting to feel better.

Ann -- I hope you are feeling better today.

Aimee -- I'm glad your dinner went so well.

Ellen -- I am glad you are back online. When I talked to Greg last week, he said the sun was shining there for the first time in 65 days. I don't think it has been out again since, and it snows every day. After that conversation, I told him I would not complain too much about the weather here anymore.

Dinner is going to be clam chowder for me. I haven't decided what I am making the kids yet. I have to go to the store.

Ladies, the Pioneer Woman's recipe for braised short ribs is a definite keeper. Johnny moaned so much, well never mind, you get the idea.......;)

ETA: I spoke with Lauren for a good while this evening, she sounds pretty good.

:rotfl: this is too cute.
Thanks for the update on Lauren

WOOHOO!! I am connected. Wow, I really missed you all and now have to play the catch up game. But until then -

It is snowing and burrrrrrr cold here this morning and AGAIN really gloomy. But for today I will not whine. Wouldn't do any good if I did. :lmao:

WFDT ~ Lazagna, garlic bread with a spinach salad.

I will BBL!!

Glad your back on and don't feel bad your not alone in the cold and gloomy we can cry on each others shoulders:laughing:
your supper sounds good no one will eat that here and I have been sooo hungry for that.

So I walked 8 miles at the park and then went to go paint. I am tired now.

I had a good day today. :thumbsup2 I hope the rest of you did too. :grouphug:

So proud your back out there. So glad you had a good day.

Aimee- glad it went well last night.

Hope everyone has a good day and :grouphug: to all. Now off to my test.

Good morning! I'm crossing my fingers tightly, but, for now, Leslie is fever free!!! I have a call in to the doctor. The nurse told me she thinks he'll just call in a prescription, since she and Mary are twins, so I'm waiting to hear. Her ear doesn't hurt anymore, and the fever is gone. Of course, she has to be fever free for 24 hours before she can go back to school, so she's home for the day. Hopefully, she'll be able to go to school tomorrow.

The rest of the kids all seem to be doing well. No new sickies to report. I'm cautiously optimistic that we are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel!

I have to go to the library and straighten out a problem. They think that I lost a book that I turned in on Friday. So, I need to talk to someone and get that straightened out. Then, I will hopefully be picking up the prescription for Leslie, and then we can come home. I anticipate lunch while we are out and about. I might make her a bagel sandwich to have in the car so we don't have to stop.

I'm not sure what we'll have for dinner. I need to sit down and plan out the week. I'll update you when I have a clearer picture.

I spent most of yesterday going through one of our old monster threads, copying and pasting the recipes. I've been meaning to do it for a long time, and yesterday I finally got started. I only got through one thread, though. It was 334 pages long, and so fun! I tried to scroll through really fast, but sometimes I'd get caught up in reading what we were all up to back in the Fall of 2007. Crazy!!! I'm going to try to do another one today, in between studying, shopping, and trying to get a workout in. Wish me luck!!!

Have a great day everyone! I'm still praying for Lauren. Kathy, thanks for updating us! Maria, I hope all goes well with the dentist! I'm supposed to go to the dentist today, but will have to cancel with Leslie home sick.

Talk to y'all later.

Hey ya'll! I tried to take the weekend off and missed alot! I just posted over on FB too so I won't rehash here what I said there.

I've been getting the comments lately about my time on the internet- so I haven't even pulled out the laptop since Friday. I think I might have been going through withdrawls!:rotfl2: If it wasn't for being able to post FB from my phone....well, it just wasn't pretty.

We've been in Vegas the past couple days and I spent all day yesterday in the room in bed. Another one of those gals with "friend" problems...:sad2: Even ordered room service cause there was no way I was moving more than I had too. And we were supposed to do the all seafood buffet that I was sooo looking forward to.:sad1:

Today is the flight back to NOLA. I'm not looking forward to that. I already told Rick to not even look at me funny when I have to go to the restroom on the flight- cause it's gonna happen. He for once had the sense to keep his mouth shut and agree.

It's a shame that the highlight of my trip was my pedicure. :rolleyes1 But at least I have cute toes now, and that makes me smile when I see them. However, that too has issues..... I walked in and showed Rick my pretty results and he looked at them and called me traitor!!! WTH?!? They're blue. A pretty shade of ocean blue. However, apparently ANY shade of blue a week before the SuperBowl is Colts....:sad2: really?!? are you cereal?!?

I told him if they bothered him that much he could repaint them for me when we get home.

I am going to read back now and see what else I missed.

:grouphug: to my girls!

Hey y'all,

Lauren, Thinking of you!

Kathy, Thanks! I'm glad to hear that Lauren sounded good. She's an amazingly strong lady.

Ann & Lori, I hope you two feel better soon!

Maria, I hope the dentist visit isn't too bad.

Lori, I'm going to forgive the blue toes cause your feeling bad! I do think black with a gold fleur de lis would be much cuter!:)

Becky, YUM! :worship:

Dinner last night was a sort of egg foo yung. I put the leftover noodles in it & bean sprouts, water chestnuts and made a brown gravy adding soy sauce. It was really good, I can't wait to have the leftovers for lunch.

Today I'm fixing butter beans with smoked ham hocks & andouille.

I'm really weird about my meat... I trim WAY more off than most people would I think. I will take a look at them the next time I'm at a nice meat counter and see. Thanks! :goodvibes

I've been itching to go back to Vegas but NYC is next on the list for us. I'm sorry you haven't felt well

Some friends of mine are taking me out for dinner tonight before my surgery :goodvibes We are going for mexican, yum! I came in a little later and will just work until I meet them at 7pm. DH said he's happy to eat some more of that gumbo

Glynis, Prayers that Leslie stays fever-free!:flower3: I've also had trouble looking through the old threads for recipes & not just sitting there reading it all!

Aimee, The next time I cook short ribs, I think I will take Becky's suggestion. She said she cooks them a day ahead, then refrigerates it, so that she can easily skim the fat out of the sauce. The last time I fixed it, they were delicious but it really messed up my stomach.

Ellen, how did Elizabeth make out with the laptop? Jay is always in my prayers.

Not feeling my best. Since my tubal my monthly cramps have been on steroids and kicking the crap out of me.

Elizabeth found out on Friday that here lap top is still under warranty. Thank Goodness. They are sending her the box and UPS will pick it up. Should take 2 weeks and hopefully be like new when she gets it back. I know I will be glad to have mine back. Thanks for the prayers for Jay!!

I hope you are feeling better today.

 I will stop all complaining. Oh MY!!

Glad your back on and don't feel bad your not alone in the cold and gloomy we can cry on each others shoulders:laughing:

Thanks so much. I hope today goes ok. Please let us know if there is anything we can do.

Lauren ~ Oh my sweetie, I am so so sorry for your Loss. Please know we are here for you whenever you need us. Prayers to you and your family.

Maria ~ Welcome home!! Good luck at the dentist today.

Lori ~ To bad you weren't feeling well in Vegas. That's the pits. Hope today is better.

Glynis ~ Prayers that no ONE wlse gets the sickies. So sorry to here Leslie is sick now but glad to hear Timmy and Mary are on the mend.

I should have taken notes because my mind is mush now. Love and prayers to everyone I have missed.

Lauren my heart hurts for you right now. My deepest sympathies to you and your family and I'm praying really hard for you right now. I'm so sorry that you are having to go thru all this. Hugs.

Lauren- I'm so sorry to here about your mom. You are in my thought's and prayes and will continue to be.

Aimee- Enjoy your dinner out, imagine how many meals you are going to be enjoying soon! I can't imagine being excited for surgery, but you must be.

Maria- Hope you are comfortable and all done with the dentist.

Glynis- Glad to hear things in your house are improving, hope it stays that way.

Laura- Since my husband works outside I feel really bad asking him to take out the dog, doesn't stop me, I just feel bad doing it. I can't imagine 65 days without sun. Are the kids (and you) able to skype with him or is he in an area where that isn't possible?

Ann- We had cheeseburgers last night. We hadn't had them in so long, they were so tasty. I put bbq sauce and carmalized onions on them, yum. Hope your feeling better.

Kathy- Thanks for the update on Lauren, and thanks for being such a good friend to her, and us.

Glad to know short ribs are supposed to be fatty, I thought I had picked bad ones. I only made them once, but we couldn't find any meat.

Kathy's mexican baked chicken, brown rice, and broccoli for dinner. Enjoy the day all.

Nancy, Your olive salad is on it's way! I hope it arrives unbroken. I wrapped it up very well, but it made me nervous when the P.O. guy asked how I packaged it. He got a real kick out of my reason for mailing olive salad! He told me "Way to go! Spread dat WHO DAT fever!" I turned around & everyone in the line waiting was smiling at me!:goodvibes:goodvibes

Thank you ! Thank You! Thank You!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You know that the CT division of the Who Dat Nation will be tuned in and eating in a manner that befits the Saints!

I had a dentist appt today and need another crown, so they started that immediately following my cleaning. I'm hurting now but wanted to pass these videos on to y'all. A little background...we had a sports announcer named Buddy Diliberto (Buddy D) for short who proclaimed he would parade the streets of NOLA wearing a dress if the Saints ever made it to the Super Bowl. He passed away in '05 but the sports announcer who took his place vowed he would continue the pledge should the Saints ever make it to the big game. Well the planning started and yesterday thousands of men donned their finest dresses and paraded and danced. The crowd estimate was $85,000 people turned out. Here are two links, you may want to screen it before letting little ones see it.

Kathy It is great that everyone is having such a great time. I remember long long ago in a land far far away when the Bears were in the Superbowl. It sure was a great ride.

Sorry you mouth is giving you such troubles. I sure hope this is a better trip. Take pictures. I am crunching the numbers to see if Mr A and I can swing a trip this summer. Unfortunetely I can't take him out of school for a fall trip.:upsidedow

Kat- They had a story about that on our local news!

Dinner tonight is White Castle hamburgers from the freezer and steak fries, also from the freezer. I went in to the freezer last night to get fish out, lost my train of thought and forgot. :sad2:

I forgot to mention dinner :lmao: I am making pasta sauce with chicken italian sausage. We will have that over orecchiette. I am trying to lower our fat intact or mainly mine. Chicken sausage is not one of my fav but I am trying.

Wondering how Maria made out today.

She checked in with me on FB. In pain from dentist but the gave her Oxycodone. She is having a hard time today with everything else as well.

======

Sorry to hear you had dental work too.

Sheryl, I love your post office story.

Nancy, to bad the superbowl is on so late or the RI delegation would be tailgating in CT with you. ;)
