The What's For Dinner Thread - November '09(recipe index in OP)

Good afternoon!

So far, it's been a really good day here. No new sickies to report!

Thanks for all the comments on Mary. The odd thing is that she never ran a fever with these ear infections. She's had a cough and a runny nose, but that's it. No fever, no pain, etc. Katie was the same way. When she was little and had ear infections, she had no pain, no fever, no symptoms at all. I think we may be in luck and the eardrums won't burst. The doctor said that if they were going to burst, it would happen last night. I'm hoping the drops and the antibiotics did their job. We'll keep an eye on it though.

Dinner tonight is pasta and meat sauce. Katie's school play opens tonight, so we ned something fast. Alan and Jacob will go see the play tonight, and I'll take the twins and go tomorrow night. Timothy is not allowed out, unless it's to the hospital for sucking out, so we are doing things in tandem.

Talked to my dsis today. She needs me to come to her house and help with the DN's next weekend. She is going to be out of town Friday to Saturday and her DH leaves early Sunday for a conference. It is her birthday and her friends are going to take her out to eat on Sunday so I willl be doing Super Bowl festivities at her house.

She said to be prepared because the oldest one LOVES to decorate for it. Told her to have the kid call me, I need to know who she's rooting for first! :rotfl: S and I will then discuss food options.

Glynis- every time I get an ear infection I don't have pain or fever, my ears just get clogged up.

Nancy, thank you for your words regarding your father's perspective on a chef eating other people's food. You have such a nice way with words and I know you are right. The funny thing is the first time we had dinner with our neighbors I made a joke that we would be to afraid to have them over and cook for them and he said that everyone feels that way and goes overboard and he really wished that someone would just invite him over for a hot dog sometime.

TGIF everyone!

Boy it's been a day! I am so sleepy I could just fall asleep in my chair here at the desk.

Dinner tonight was creamed chipped beef with rolls.

My Dad used to get home hungry and his favorite "meal" after work was a fried egg sandwich or a baked bean sandwich..............and I was his cook ;) I have to say that we hated it when he cooked at home. There was no pot washer and he felt the need to use every pot and pan at least once.....often more than once. My mom, OTOH knew how to make an entire meal in one pot and we loved that! We were the dishboys :rotfl: We also liked her style of cooking way more than what he made. We were way too young to appreciate that gift he had until later on.

Dinner was simple. Baked chicken, roasted potatoes and corn. I have not felt like cooking anything that takes any energy

I hope her play goes great! Bummer you have to go at different times but at least she'll have loved ones in the audience both nights :goodvibes

Elizabeth called the warranty people on her laptop and it is still under warranty. :cool1: They are having her send it in and they are putting in a new hard drive and making sure it is all ok. She should probably have her's back in 2 weeks. :woohoo:

:woohoo:

I was going to make dinner... but I haven't felt good and curled up in front of the fire and promptly fell asleep. DH warmed up leftovers and I havent' eaten anything yet today. I think I need to... may help with some of the nausea I have :confused3

Lots of errands today. BBL to check in on everyone and see how our sickies are doing

Aimee Your surgery date can't come fast enough. It seems you are having more bad days than good. I am praying this surgery brings only good days from now on.

Boy I watched the news last night I was surprised to see how much ice you all got. I hope today is a much better day.

Maria It seems we got the some snow you were looking for. Too bad you are leaving. This weekend in Grant park they are having a snow sculpting competition.

Making pot roast tonight. It seems like it is going to be the perfect weekend for it.

Nancy- Glad Buddy is recovering well.

Glynis- I hope the cycle of it spreading to everyone ends soon over there.

Bethany- Big Hugs my friend

Aimee- I'm worried about you and this surgery I hope takes care of it and you feel better.

Ellen- ya that the computor is under warranty :woohoo:

Lauren-Have a safe trip and praying everything goes well and quickly with the house

Thanks everyone for all the well wishes. Seen Dr. on Thurs. night and Monday morning I have a cat scan trying not to worry usually have to wait a while to get in but not this time. Sorry if I missed some.

Everyone have a great day and :grouphug: to all.

It's so cold here in the Northeast , it a good time to stay home and cook I'm making beef bourguignon Julia Child's recipe . It's a little different from some others I have used in that after you brown the beef in the oil and bacon fat then you sprinkle flour on it and bake it in the oven in an uncovered casserole for 4 minutes per side This is supposed to cover the meat with a lighter crust ,then you add the other ingredients and simmer in oven. I have made this recipe before and it was delish. Serving egg noodles and a salad with it and of course the leftover red wine:goodvibes
Hope everyone is feeling better and the young kiddies are on the mend
I had a scary experience the other night in the midst of a sudden snow squall. I was way out in the country making a home visit to see a patient as soon as I stepped out their door to leave ,the snow started, At times I couldn't see more then 2 feet in from of me. Luckily it was just snow not ice at that point It took me 1 hr 15 minutes to get home and this is Rhode Island where you can cross the entire state in an hour. I was so glad to get home my husband had pork chops noodles and corn all ready. I can't remember a meal that tasted so good. Sorry to go off track just had to vent

Lauri - Prayers and good thoughts for you on Monday.

Joanne - Don't be sorry for going off track, we do it all the time. I would have been scared to death with that limited visibility.:scared:

WFD - I'm trying Nan's seared scallop scampi over angel hair pasta with a caesar salad.

ETA: The ahi tuna appetizer at PF Chang's is amazing.

Glynis -- I hope everyone is continuing to improve there. Have fun at the play tonight! Break a leg, Katie!

Nancy -- It's strange that all our little girls don't complain when they are sick. Caili certainly does not get that from me. I was a huge whiner and visited the school nurse regularly.

Lauri -- I hope everything is okay.

Aimee -- Like others have said, your surgery can't come fast enough. I really hope it is successful and you can live pain-free.

Joanne -- I'm glad you made it home safely.

The kids and I ended up joining our neighbors for pizza last night. Today we are going to my ILs for lunch (takeout food, I think) and then we might do a movie night with the same neighbors. We'll see. I hope everyone is having a good weekend. It sure is cold here, so stay warm!

Another cold Northerner checking in! Mike and I have a sitter coming this afternoon so we can go do some shopping and have dinner out. I'm very excited about this! We originally planned to go to the Melting Pot but I have a pretty significant coupon that's only good Mon-Thu so we might hold off and try to go somewhere else.

Joanne- I know exactly what weather you got stuck in, it was pretty scary!

I hope everyone enjoys their day and that everyone starts to feel better soon...what a rough winter!

Good morning. :grouphug:

I didn't wake up until 9:30 today. I couldn't fall asleep until 2. Those of you that know my sleep patterns know this it's highly unusual for me to have any trouble sleeping. :sad2: I try to get up like at 5 or 6 on the weekends because I love the fresh start and I usually get the bulk of my weekly to do list done at that time. I'm still working on stuff from Wednesday's to do list. :headache: Oh well it will get done.

I'm meeting someone for coffee and beignets in a little bit. I think that will be good. :thumbsup2

It does seem like more and more bad days then good here lately :confused3

Yikes, that is terrifying! Be sure and post a pic of that yummy dinner you're going to work on!

I plan to do the gumbo tonight for dinner... my dad is coming over at some point so he may be eating with us, too.

Joanne- that was a scary ride! Glad you made it home safe

Laura- Kady does not get it from Marisa:rotfl: Risa was awful when she was sick. She was awful when anyone was sick....Donny gets a cut.....Marisa needed the bandaid. She visited the nurse every single day. EVERY DAY! SHe cried when she was sick, one night I did not hear her and Buddy said he found her sitting outside my door on the floor crying. Gail would pack her up and take her back home if there was even a hint of a cold coming on. And then she has Kady...who would not visit the nurse if her pants were on fire!

Lauri- You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Bethany- you must need the sleep so don't worry about that to do list.

Still have not decided on dinner. Kady is coming over so I will talk to her.

Tonights dinner is already rearranged. Catfish is now on the menu instead with some kind of sides.

We will have Roast beef po-boys for tomorrow. I am trying out a recipe. I hope it doesn't offend the NOLA gals, I am going to cook the meat in a crock pot since we will be out of the house most of the afternoon.

Lauren just called me with some awful news. Her Mom passed away unexpectedly. No details yet as Lauren is still in Pittsburgh. My poor friend sounded like she was in shock, please keep her in your prayers.
