The What's For Dinner Thread - May '09(recipe index in OP)

Hey...just a quick check-in. I am trying to pack but instead I keep sleeping or surfing the net. I'm being SO LAZY it's disgusting. I still have not gone to the store. We got McDonald's last night and we had the leftovers this morning. :sad2: I think I've reached a new low on the food. :lmao:

I am down to what should be the last few boxes. It's largely odds and ends and should not be this difficult to toss into a box. :confused3 I'm totally unfocused and I'm wandering around the house looking at stuff like "what am I supposed to do with this"? DUH put it in a box. Label box. Tape box. :headache:

Janice and Lauri - sorry your rain was so bad. Sorry you are dealing with flooding. I hope you can get it all cleaned up and not have any mold...mine has been making me sick for 9 months and I hope you don't have to deal with that!
We were supposed to get it just about as bad as what you had but it sort of broke apart as it arrived and it wasn't so bad. I still didn't do anything. I think just the incessant overcast skies are really starting to get to me. I'm tired of being inside yet tired of getting wet when going outside.

Ann - I hope that Emma will make an appearance soon!

Happy Father's Day!!

We are staying home which tends to be the trend right now. The rest of my family is going to my DB and SIL in Foxboro, MA for a cookout. It is a 45 minute ride and I don't feel like being up there if my labor ever decides to start.

Only thing I plan on cooking today is this little girl in me!!!!:lmao:

Glad you're taking it easy :goodvibes

HAPPY FATHERS DAY TO EVRYONE. Sorrry wasn't on yesterday boy did we have a mess here. Fri. night we had a bad storm come through. We had a total of 6-7 inches within 12hours. For a little bit we 3 inches in 45 min. Highways are closed roads gone and then we loose power so the sump pump can't pump the water out of basement. Our basement is finished what a mess. Neighbor down the road has 8 FEET of water in basement.
WFD going to parents house for lunch. Have a good day everyone

Ann--I see Emma is still comfy hang in there girl ;)

Lauri

Oh my!! I'm so sorry

I just rec'd a text from Maria...they are having an amazing time, the seas are pretty rough and they have had enough Champagne for all!!!

Mmm, perhaps the Champagne is the reason why the sea feels choppy? :confused3

Yum, my favorite....world's most famous aphrodisiac!!!! God knows that is the last thing I want right about now this prego!!!!:rotfl:

I wouldn't know first hand but I've been told that's a way to get labor going :rolleyes1 If you get desperate enough ;)

This morning was good - we had a going away lunch for our interim pastor. My dad is here, we picked up the vans for camp this afternoon and are home for a couple of hours before dinner for Father's Day. I am picking up my granddaddy and his sweetheart to come with us for dinner. Dad chose Johnny Carinos - yum!

Happy Father's Day to all the dads!

Ann -- Walking and moving around definitely helps. I also tried spicy food -- the cooks at one Indian restaurant guaranteed that I would go into labor shortly after eating there. I didn't. I was walking around the mall when I started going into labor with Liam and I was walking on my mom's treadmill when Caili FINALLY decided she was ready to make her way into the world.

Lauri -- I am sorry you are dealing with a flooded basement. I've been there...it's no fun.

2 days before Andrew, I walked across the George Washington bridge and bowled my best game ever!
 I haven't heard that story.

I showed up 2 days later (yes, I was going every 2 days, fun, fun.) with my suitcase and was not leaving w/o my child out of my body.

Kathy -- Johnny sure knows how to pick meals! I love fried oysters.

I'm glad Maria is having a good time. I heard from Becky today, and she is having a great time too.

Liam's team won again last night, so they are still playing. They have a big challenge Tuesday. They are playing a team that hasn't given up a run in the playoffs. I would love it if Liam's team beats them. The coach is one of "those" coaches, who only wants to win, somehow skirts around the draft so he gets all the good players, and brings a speaker system to games and plays music while his team is warming up and between innings. It's a bit extreme.

Dinner this afternoon was wild salmon, pan seared with a cucumber salsa, broccolini, fresh green peas, crispy potatoes with sea salt, and fresh tomato and mozzarella salad. My mom made strawberry shortcake for dessert, but I brought mine home.

Glad to hear Becky is having a good vacation!

Kyle played one season on a team with a coach like that, it was really embarrassing.:sad2:

A 4-story building collapsed today in Brooklyn. They think everyone is okay because there were some signs a few minutes before and people were able to get out.

Hope everyone got out safely.:grouphug:

Caili was funny because she said that ever since Auntie Becky left, we have had rainy weather. She said Auntie Becky needs to come back and bring the sun with her! Meanwhile, Liam asked if Becky and John were back today, and when I said they were still on vacation, he rolled his eyes and exclaimed, "They've been gone FOREVER!!"

Liam hasn't had a coach like that, but last year, he was on a team where some of the players only wanted to win, and they would be mad if they didn't. Some of them were kind of mean...not exactly good teammates.

Those two must keep you smiling.....:rotfl:

I finallly found a recipe that is a keeper.

Baked chicken on the grill

2/3 c buttermilk baking mix (I used bisquick)
1 1/2tsp paprika
1 1/4 tsp seasoned salt
1/3 tsp pepper
1 tsp powdered garlic
1 (3lb) chicken cut up

place baking mix, paprika, seasoned salt and pepper in large plastic ziplock bag. close and shake to mix. Add chicken few pieces at a time to coat. Place chicken on greased metal or foil pan 13x9 inch pan. place on grill. Cover and grill over low coals turning once halfway through cooking time. 60-75 minutes or until juices run clear.

I subbed Sheryl's cajun spice for the salt and pepper. WOW was this good. Just like fried chicken but no grease or hot kitchen.:thumbsup2

I'm glad I could give ya'll a good laugh about my pregnancy with my emma. She wasn't coming out; she got her eviction notice. DH thought I was crazy taking my bag with me, but I was determined not to come home from that dr's visit pregnant. By the end of both pregnancies I was very unpleasant. With Matthew, I told the dr. on a visit that if I didn't have this baby over the weekend (it was a friday) to expect me on the l&d floor monday morning. I was 40 weeks, so he just smiled and said OK.

Lauren--we got my dad a GPS. Kind of ironic that it hasn't found it's way to us yet.;) He was excited when I told him about it. They are leaving on vacation for 3 weeks next month and it will be a great help.

Bethany--glad you are safe. Hope everyone else made it out safely. Very scary!

One last check in before we leave in the morning for camp - may have Wifi there, we'll see I guess. Regardless, I will probably update FB statuses from my phone while there for the parents that are curious about how the week is going.

Have a safe week!

Good Morning!
hope everybody had a nice weekend! I think I see a hint of sun out there, although there is a coastal flood warning for my area.

After this weekends eatathon, its back on the bike for me (and hubby)
and I am going to retire the margaritas for awhile:sad2: just to many calories.

WFD- LETTUCE!

Have a good day!:)

Good Morning, I hope everyone had a nice weekend. All is good here...I think this weather brought on a small case of the blues but it looks like the sun is peaking through the trees this morning.

Ann, Wishing you the best!!! Can't wait for another update!

Stephanie, great gift!

Janice, that chicken recipe looks really good!

Today is Andrew's last day of 5th grade!!! :cool1: Kind of strange to have a half day on a Monday...

My Mom is coming tomorrow so I need to get the house cleaned up a bit, the fridge stocked and run to the liquor store and get some more scotch!!! :goodvibes She will be here until Sat or Sun so this week will be a bit stressful for me but I do not have much going on so it should be fine...

I am going back to the gym today and really need to get back on track. I am looking forward to it. I missed going to the gym. I tried on bathing suits last week and do not think I will be wearing one this year...

Andrew's friend is coming over later and will be here for dinner. He is diabetic so I try to make a lower carb dinner. I am making Chicken Stir Fry and Brown Rice.

Have a great day my friends!

Evacuate to Clinton!

Try the Redneck Sangria as Kathy named it...red wine and diet lemon lime soda! Yummy! That is what I did yesterday but added some brandy and triple sec.

Lettuce is what we should be having too!

Thanks for the offer for help...I think I will just need patience...I'll definitely let you know if I need anything.
