The What's For Dinner Thread - May '09(recipe index in OP)

Aimee Try sitting in a warm bath. Not exactly practical while at work but at home give it a try. Hopefully it will go away soon.

I need to discover WFD soon I am getting hungry.:rolleyes1

Sitz baths are sometimes recommended, too. Right now I'm doing the heating pad bit :goodvibes

Yes, I guess so. Dad has been in the hospital since Thursday although we received word that he may go home this Friday. I've been reading along this whole time but as I explained to Kat in a PM, I hated to post since I had nothing else to talk about. I have begun to feel like Debbie Downer here and like I was taking far more from all of you than I was able to give back. I just didn't want to keep going on and on about my Dad and maybe driving you all nuts with it.

Anyway, now that he is feeling better and we don't have to keep watch over him, my life is more back to normal.

You know, I thought I was being a big whiner too - esp with the stuff with my Granddaddy recently, and my ongoing Crohns issues, and then I thought 'you know, these people check into this thread each day because of a friendship. And if they get tired of my whining, they'll either tell me to shut up or skip my posts. Until then, I'm going to continue sharing my up's and down's of life.' I think you should adopt the same thought process - even if we're both wrong! - and continue to share what is going on with your Dad and not worrying one second about being Debbie Downer! Besides, you haven't met my mother - the ultimate Debbie Downer. No one on here has come close to her pity parties!

Speaking of my momma - I'm trying to get her to pick dates so I can book her a flight home in Sept. It's hard due to their scheduling at work  but she needs to come and see where Granddaddy is living and help him start going through his house. Airtran has some GREAT deals - I can fly her here roundtrip for $100!!

How long will Greg get to stay home?

Greg will be home another week. I am so glad you had a good time this weekend. That is a dream weekend for me. I just love theater, and I don't get to go nearly as often as I would like.

Happy Birthday to Katie!

Looks like we have Section 8 renters very interested in M&D's house.

That is great news Kathy! I hope that works out and takes some of the burden off you.

Aimee -- I haven't heard of that, but I do hope you get relief soon.

Gretchen -- Please don't ever feel like Debbie Downer. You usually bring smiles here, but if you need hugs and cheers, I know I speak for all of us that we are more than willing to offer them.

=Alexis is sleeping over, ( I had promised we do this before my surgery & her camp. Tonight is the only night we can do it.) Dinner is take out sandwiches for us and takeout chinese rice for her! We'll be watching her choice of movies and popping popcorn later.

Sounds fun!

This is so true...well written!

Liam's team won tonight, 9-0. He didn't have any significant impact on the result, but he did play. He didn't bat last tonight either.

My first batch of jam is done and seems to have turned out pretty good. I ended up having grilled cheese for dinner.

So the truck came today....it's all unloaded and partly unpacked. We have a HOT MESS up in here! We need to go to the supermarket but I just can't bring anything else in here until this mess gets tackled a bit.

:grouphug: for everybody!

Maria, I hope your fever stayed down with round the clock meds.

Aimee, I hope you are feeling better too.

Sheryl, Hope your sleepover was a blast and that you are feeling better.

Marilyn, Good job on the jam! That is going to be so yummy!

Bethany, :cool1:for the truck!

Gretchen, come here any time...we are here for you! Glad your Dad may come home soon.

I am taking T for his 4 month check up today. I am betting he is about 17 lbs...

Not sure WFD...I am so unmotivated with cooking lately. I will see what looks good at the store. Last night was take out Chinese.

Have a great day all!

Happy Birthday to Katie!

Alan does the preview videos that show clips of the plays. When he gets them done and edited, I'll post a link to them so y'all can see (if you're interested). I'm always impressed at the quality of the shows. Of course, after 48 years, they've figured out how to do things right. In 2000, Dad's theater won a Tony award for Best Regional Theater. It was quite exciting! A far cry from the first years, for sure!

Thanks for the birthday wishes. I'm sure she'll have a great day! If we can keep the teen age attitude from rearing it's ugly head!

Kathy - A VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU, MY FRIEND!!!!! I hope this day is filled with happiness and joy! You deserve it all! I'm going to be cautiously optimistic with you about the renters! What a blessing it would be to be able to do this!

Lauren - I hear you on the uninspired cooking. When Alan is gone, it's just not worth my time to cook. The kids whine about it, and I hate hearing that! While he's gone, we eat lots of soup and mac and cheese and sandwiches. Not the healthiest, but at least I don't fight with my kids!

Maria - How are you feeling this morning? Did the meds work through the night?

Sheryl - How was your sleep over? Are you feeling better with the antibiotics?

Well, my first baby is turning 12 today. I have no idea where the time has gone! I have to get her up and moving soon. A bunch of her friends are coming over at 10:00 to decorate her room, so I need to get her out of the house for that surprise.

After that, I need to make a run to Costco, and the grocery store. I've got Cornish pasties to make. Wish me luck with that one. I'm not worried about the filling, it's the crust that has me nervous! Although, now I come to think about it, my pie crusts always end up heavy, so maybe this will be ok. I'll take pictures (if there's anything picture worthy). I've also got to come up with some kind of cake. I'm not sure if I'll make one, or just buy a small one. That will depend on the mood, and how optimistic I am about the pasties!

Make it a great day, ladies!

Happy Birthday Kathy!! Wishing you a wonderful year, it sounds like it's off to a good start with renting. Are your guys doing anything special with you today?

Glynis- We are having my daughter's birthday dinner sunday and I'm cheating with the cake. I just don't have the time to go all out. I think I saw it in Martha Stewart Everyday food. You slice a sheet of puff pastry into 8 rectangles, bake it off, cool and slice in half. You spread the half with marscapone cheese and top it with slightly mashed berries. Put the top back on and there ya go, dessert. Whatever you do, I know you'll make her day special.

Gretchen- I think Aimee said it quite well, and I'm sure we all agree. Trust me, if my dad's not well you will all here about it. I don't think of it as whining or complaining, just keeping us up to date.

Aimee- Hope the antibiotics kick in and help you out a bit.

Bethany- I don't do facebook, so if you feel like bragging about that new pup of yours I'd love to hear about her.

Okay, no way can I keep up with you all so I wish you all the very best.

Don't know what's for dinner, it was going to be chicken but the grocery store was out of chicken. Ahh, summer.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY KATHY!!!!! I'm wishing for all good things for you this year!! Good, Good, Good!!!! You are a dear friend and a such a good, kind person! Also you were my First True Friend here on the Dis!! Much love & prayers for you today!

I'm also hoping your stomach is feeling better!

Oops...I put these up on Webshots the other day and forgot to post them. I think we decided to go with Anabelle for the name. The girl who was watching her started using it and I like it and it fits her.

If you click on the picture it will take you to the album...there are 5 photos in it so far and one of them has an electrical outlet in the photo....so you can see how small she is. :goodvibes

Morning Y'all,

A very happy birthday to Katie! Glynis good luck with your baking & all your b-day errands! It's hard to believe just how fast they grow up!

Maria, I sure hope you are feeling better! I am really worrying about you. I hope the meds helped and that you are actually sleeping now, because that fever has finally broke. Love & prayers!

Gretchen, How is your Dad doing???:flower3:

Our sleepover was fun! Y'all should have seen Uncle Bob (and Nana and of course Princess Alexis) watching tv with crowns on our heads! If Uncle Bob's crown slipped off, the Princess kindly placed it back on his head! :lmao:

The Princess is sleeping in, I guess she waiting for the breakfast to be brought to her!!! ;)

I didn't have the best sleep last night though, woke up around 3 around bumpy, splotchy & itching. I guess I developed an allergy to another class of antibiotics. I'm waiting for the dr's office to call back. This really ticks me off, because after just one pill, my sinuses are starting to drain & my headache is a little better.

Laura, I'm glad Greg will be back home soon! It's nice that he'll get to see more of the kids while they're not in school.

Lauren, 17 lbs! Oh he sure is growing!

I don't have to cook tonight! We have my niece's rehearsal dinner tonight. I'm excited because it's at an old "Mansion" on St Charles that I've never been to.

I'm hoping to go shopping for a purse to wear with the dress for Saturday's wedding & a dress for Alexis to wear. Chris bought one, but it didn't fit all that well & I won't get it back from the seamstress until tomorrow. ( shh, I didnt really like it all that much either.)
