The What's For Dinner Thread - March '11 (recipe index in OP)

Janice - I hope you're feeling better.

Vickie - I am so proud to say I know "the boy" and have been in his company. He is mature way beyond his years and that is a testament to how he has been raised. You are an amazing Mom and he is an incredible kid.:thumbsup2 I feel sorry for the other kid because obviously he does what he's taught.:sad2:

Nan - Your dinner sounds great, thanks for the cheers!;)

I want to apologise for the term " trouble kid " it was a mean description...sorry.

Also I would not usually condone the boy walkin out of class but I think it was the right reaction today.

I dont know this boys family very well.
I do know his dad is a cage fighter and I heard his mum once brag that he had not cried since he was 3 because his dad told him really men dont !!

Says alot really.

That is sad. :sad2: On a different note, love your table!

Saw the doc this morning and I have bronchitis, which explains why I feel like crap! Super busy day, haven't gotten my RX filled yet but I'm scaling back on my plans tomorrow (skipping an out of town meeting) so I can survive until the weekend. Today's 12+ hour day (with no lunch or dinner break) did me in. If I feel too bad tomorrow, I can work remotely I think.

Feel better quickly!

OH GIRLS!!! What a wonderful time we had. Riverdance was superb!! I was on the edge of my seat most of the night. Stephanie and I decided to go for a glass of wine afterwards. When we got to the car we realized it was 10:15 so we decided not to as I still had a 45 minute drive home. The show lasted 3 hours!!! Even so, when it was over I wanted it to continue. It was so good and we had ball.

Glad you enjoyed Riverdance!

We are day 4 on our kitchen project. Things are a bit behind due to some small issues that were discovered but they have been addressed and we move forward. Today was running the vent work for the new stove hood which was a chore and as you can see below... granite installation. :yay: Tomorrow is the beginning of tile.

Vickie -- Love the table! I think your boy did the right thing in letting the teacher know his feelings. Not many children that age could express their frustration in such a mature way.

Aimee -- I hope you feel better.

Sheryl -- I am so glad to hear Angelina is doing well. I hope her sinuses improve. That little boy is going to be here so soon!!

I can hardly remember the last time I was up at 10:15, let alone out that late.
 It is a rare night that I am up past ten, and I certainly am not out at that time! I am hoping for the end of the snow as well! The kids are doing anti-snow dances at this point.

Glynis -- I'm glad Timothy is feeling better! I hope he doesn't share the germs.

Kathy -- I'm glad the team arrived safely. It's too bad the weather doesn't look promising. I bet they'll have great weather in San Diego though. Good luck to them!!

Dinner was pasta with red sauce. At least there were no tooth incidents tonight.

I am so ticked. Went to Target to get my prescription filled and the insurance denied it because it is available over the counter. :confused3 Then the ding dong in the pharmacy told me OTC was cheaper. He needs to learn some math! :sad2:

Dinner tonight is chicken strips and roasted brussel sprouts.

Morning ladies. The Pioneer Woman's quiche was gooooood. I made some changes, 2 tbsp. butter instead of a whole stick and a mix of light and heavy cream instead of all heavy. I also left out the artichoke hearts because I did not have any. Here's a pic:

BBL to catch up, have to go get the train to work!

Becky - That quiche looks so good!!! I may have to give that one a try!

I made Pioneer Woman's sour cream noodle bake last night, and it was a definite hit! It was so yummy!!! The crock pot chocolate cake was wonderful too. The only sour note was that we ended up not going to my SIL's house. My MIL's husband fell and re-injured his shoulder that was operated on last week, and had to go back to the hospital. No driving for either of them for a while, so we cancelled the get together. So, my family had to eat only my cooking. Good thing, they all enjoyed the meal!

Today is bowling, and then home. We are getting hit with another winter storm, so after bowling I intend to stay put!

Glynis- I'm glad the noodle bake was good. I've never had anything like that but it looks like something my husband would like and I'm planning on making it next week. Can you tell it has cottage cheese in it?

Becky- Yikes! I just looked at the recipe for the quiche, no wonder why you cut back on the butter and cream.

Kathy, I hope Kyle is having fun! Has he been feeling better about his pitching lately?

Vicb, love the granite! So pretty!

Vickie, I love the table and especially the chairs! Very modern looking. :thumbsup2

And good for your boy for sticking up for himself. I hope he is able to enjoy the rest of the project.

Glynis, we have a Pioneer Woman thing going on! I was looking at that noodle bake recipe the other day. It seemed like it would be good comfort food.

WFD: not sure. John still has a raging MOLD which I cannot hear the end of, and I either have allergies or a sinus infection myself. Maybe something with shrimp...

That was weird, the computer just decided I was ready to post. I'll try again.

Marilyn- I've heard alot of people have that problem when a prescription goes to over the counter. I guess it's great for people that don't have insurance, but it usually costs more than the copay.

Vic- Your counters look awsome!

Vickie- I don't think you need to apologise, there's at least one in every class and everyone knows who they are. I think you and your boy are right to be angry, my kid is a sweet, smart little girl and it's not her job to teach other kids how to behave but sure enough the good kids always get matched up with the problem kids. I'm glad he was able to explain to the teacher.

Kathy- Kyle sure is busy! I'm glad he's having a good time.

Today is a busy day for us so a chicken from bj's, mashed potatoes, and salad. Have a great day all.

Vicb – Every time we’ve done any remodel things pop up to delay it a bit, I think that’s par for the course. Your granite looks very similar to mine!

Becky – Kyle is feeling a bit better about his arm but he’s getting frustrated. He thinks the trainers/coach are holding him back too much. I disagree with him and side with them, they know what they’re doing. You have my sympathy with the MOLD my friend.

Busy day/weekend here…going out for boiled crabs & crawfish tonight. Tomorrow is lunch with the NOLA gals and Sunday we’re meeting Laurie D and her DH!

I’ll be speaking with Gretchen later today, I’ll tell her hello from all of you!...off to do some shopping and a Dr. appt....

You really can't taste the cottage cheese, at all. Next time, though, I think I'd do more sour cream, and some cream cheese, instead. Some of the comments on the recipe said that was yummy. I thought about trying the new Philadelphia Cream Cheese sauces, as there's one that's Italian. I think that would be yummy. Next time.

Vickie - HOORAY FOR THE BOY!!! I'm so proud that he stood up for himself and his education!!! As a former teacher, you can tell him he did the exact RIGHT thing!!! While I sympathize with the other kid, it's not right to jeopardize your son's learning experience in the hope that he could help the other kid. That's not your son's job!!! Way to raise a wonderful boy, mom!!!

Vic - I'm so jealous of your granite!!! It looks so wonderful! I can't wait to see the tile!!! I love watching home improvement projects!

I have no idea why, but I missed almost an entire page of posts! I'm glad others posted about the granite, and Vickie's son, so I knew to look back!!!

 It is a rare night that I am up past ten, and I certainly am not out at that time! I am hoping for the end of the snow as well! The kids are doing anti-snow dances at this point.

:lmao: I feel like such a rebel!!

I am so ticked. Went to Target to get my prescription filled and the insurance denied it because it is available over the counter. :confused3 Then the ding dong in the pharmacy told me OTC was cheaper. He needs to learn some math! :sad2:

Oh how frustrating!!
What part of Kansas are you going to? The border is only about 50 miles south of me. ;) Personally, Kansas (I hope there are no Jayhawks here - if so I'm sorry) is dreadful to me. Nothing but dirt and tumbleweeds. The Eastern part is sort of pretty but the western half is so desolate. Just sayin!!

Vickie ~ I LOVE the table and chairs. Oh so pretty. I am so darn proud of the Boy - good for him. I so agree with the others - it is not up to him to keep the others in line. Good for Him!!:woohoo:

Robin ~ I am so sick of snow also but alas here it is again today and forcasted for the whole weekend.

Sheryl ~ It won't be long now and that grandbaby will be here. Oh I can just smell him now. There is NOTHING like a baby smell.

Glynis ~ I am so glad that Timmy is feeling better. Sorry you didn't get to go to you SIL's for dinner. I really want to try that crockpot chocolate cake. Sounds so yummy.

Janice ~ Hope you are feeling better sweetie.

Vic ~ I love your pictures and your granite is beautiful. But you need to tell those men to GET THOSE TOOLS OFF of it. I about died when I saw that. :scared1:

Becky ~ OMG that quiche looks amazing. I just love quiche and I really need to try that one. I sure hope you and John start feeling better real soon.

Kat ~ enjoy your lunch tomorrow. I so wish I was there, I want so bad to meet you ladies. Someday, someday.
Please give Gretchn my love and let her know my thoughts and prayers are with her.
:cheer2: Good luck Kyle :cheer2:

It is SNOWING out today. Woke up to the ground covered. What is up with that. I am SO over this white stuff. I want nice sunshine weather!!
Actually it looks more like December out there instead of March. UGH!!!!!

We have Ethan all weekend as his parents are away. We have all sorts of fun things planned. We are so excited to have him with us. You should have seen Cooper last night when we walked through the door. He was jumping all over the place, they are best of friends. They even slept together last night.

WFDT ~ Ethan's Choice - Spaghetti, lettuce salad and breadsticks

Have a great day and weekend. I probably won't be on again until Monday.

Hey, thanks for the support of the boy.

Please check FB group,I have stuff happen today and I dont want to post here but I do need to share.

Have a good day lassies. x

Hi y'all,

Vickie, Love your table & chairs! Those chairs look very comfortable!

I agree, the boy is the coolest!!! :thumbsup2 I am very impressed with the way he handled the situation. So mature to be able to explain himself to the teacher! You & Colin are doing an amazing job!:thumbsup2

Vic, The granite is so pretty! The makeover is going to be awesome!

Glynis, Sorry about the change in plans, but glad the family enjoyed your cooking!

Robin, Alexis is anything but excited!:sad2: The closer it gets the more worried she gets! I'm really hoping that once he is here, she will love him. Obviously this is all my fault. She is most worried about me giving the baby all of my attention & that I "won't love her anymore" !!

Becky, That quiche looks really delicious!:) Sorry about the MOLD!

Kathy, I hope Kyle & the team gets some nice weather. I'm very happy for Kyle to have this oppurtunity!:goodvibes Tell Gretchen we love her!

Marilyn, I HATE the fact that the insurance company has more control over our health than our doctor!!

I going to do something with shrimp I think. Maybe a thai green curry.

Sheryl- I'm sorry she isn't more excited. I'm going to blame it on that school of hers, they are creating expert worriers. I'm sure she'll come around.

Ellen- Have a fun weekend with Ethan!

Glynis- Thanks, I'm going to try the noodle bake. I've had things cooked with cottage cheese before and it's been fine, I just can't stand the stuff on it's own.

Kathy- I'm glad your getting a chance to talk with Gretchen, hope she's doing well.

My MIL's husband fell and re-injured his shoulder that was operated on last week, and had to go back to the hospital. No driving for either of them for a while, so we cancelled the get together. So, my family had to eat only my cooking. Good thing, they all enjoyed the meal!

Oh, I'm sorry about his injury! I hope they heal up quickly.

WFD: not sure. John still has a raging MOLD which I cannot hear the end of, and I either have allergies or a sinus infection myself. Maybe something with shrimp...

I hope you both feel better soon

Vickie - you've got a great kid! :thumbsup2

I can't believe some of y'all get snow this late :confused3 Is that the norm?

We are having dinner with some friends tonight; they are ordering pizza and making salad. I'm making brownies to go with it, since I can finally bake again! I've been checking out brownie recipes and am going to try a new one.

Then the ding dong in the pharmacy told me OTC was cheaper.

It's cheaper...for the insurance companies.

my kid is a sweet, smart little girl and it's not her job to teach other kids how to behave but sure enough the good kids always get matched up with the problem kids.

That always seems to happen to Liam. One teacher put him in the lowest reading group and told him she needed a good reader in that group. I was so furious when I found out about it...too late, of course.

Vic -- The granite looks great!

Kyle is feeling a bit better about his arm but he’s getting frustrated. He thinks the trainers/coach are holding him back too much.

That sounds pretty typical for someone his age. I think you are smart to trust the coaches and trainers.

Please tell Gretchen we said hello and our thoughts and prayers are with her.

But you need to tell those men to GET THOSE TOOLS OFF of it.
 Enjoy the weekend with Ethan!

Alexis is anything but excited!:sad2:

I'm sorry she is not more excited, but it definitely is not your fault!! Once the baby arrives, she will see that you have more than enough love to give the baby and her.

Tonight is Liam's basketball awards night banquet, so we are having pizza there. I did stock up on snacks at the store earlier for later.
