The What's for Dinner Thread - August 2014 (recipe index in OP)

I was planning on grilling chicken tonight however the neighborhood is having our neighborhood party since we are flooded in. I am taking a night off from dinner. As promised here is a pic from this morning around 6am. That is sun being reflected in the water.

....WFDT? sausage on the grill with peppers and onions and grilled veggies....BTW, the electrician is here now working on the finishing touches of the electrical stuff. He has to attach the wire for the DW, put in the outlets, and hook up the pendant lights and chandelier....hey, he couldnt work on an empty stomach now, could he? :rolleyes1

Wednesday night and we did have dinner at mum's. Rice, chicken curry and stir fry. YUMMY food as always.

After dinner, we went to a "food as medicine" talk. DH has discovered an interest in this topic and I've always been interested in this kind of "science" since high school. It was interesting to hear the presenter talk about green smoothies (3/4 spinach to 1/4 banana, blended with a bit of water) and how the alkali nature is good for the "skinny" bacteria found at the lower bowels. Apparently lean people have different bacteria in the lower bowels compared to people that need to 'shrink'.
They also provided us with small sample...and a large glass at the end of the smoothie.

We were also treated to nettle and spearmint tea; followed by bliss balls.

Everything was delicious and the talk was interesting.

But....is it bad to admit.....that I kept thinking about my mother's food during the presentation?????

I really enjoy these kinds of talks also. I wish I could get David to be more into it.

DH ended up grilling chicken anyway. I opted for simple mashed potatoes and peas as sides.

We are safe. I thought I might go fishing however our fishing poles are elsewhere.

Now it is raining, blah. The river has crested, we are still on "the island", lol. Look like I will be canceling my appt. on Friday.

Dinner tonight is leftovers. I could make a stir fry with the chicken? Have to think about it.

Meh. Just book for the two of you. He'll go along with you.

A stir fry could be good. Alternatively, I'd be tempted to make a pasta and add the chicken to it.
